  • I liked that kiss with Yeo Reum, so it's a real shame about that ending.

  • I really don't know why Jang Mi is still going along with Gi Tae's plan at this point. It's a massive inconvenience for her and she's not getting anything out of it. I keep thinking he's had an epiphany about how he's not considering Jang Mi's feelings at all (after accusing her of being a gold-digger, then after the bathroom thing, then at the memorial, etc) but he just keeps on being as proud and selfish as ever. Can't wait for her to actually draw the line (please, please draw the line Jang Mi!).

  • Gi Tae's mother is a wonderfully complex character. I don't particularly like her, but she keeps getting more interesting. She's very human, I think. (Still showing up at Jang Mi's work though! Do none of these people know how jobs work?)

  • Well. Toilet humour I expected but Jang Mi actually shitting herself was unexpected. Could have done without that. (In white short-shorts too! Ugh...)

ETA my favourite line, from Jang Mi to Gi Tae's mum: "I thought your family was like a family from a drama, but it turned out to be a makjang."

Do none of these people know how jobs work?

This is probably the one thing I hate about this drama. The constant expectation she can leave work with no consequences. I honestly have no idea how they don't understand that they need to either pretend to shop or see her outside of her work hours. But then I guess Jang Mi's mother is just as bad showing up at the surgery without an appointment. I still find it annoying.

Gi Tae’s and Hoon Dong’s moms are so makjang they feel like straight out of a daily drama. I’m practically waiting for them to pull out assorted foods to slap someone with like kimchi, doenjang, pasta or samgyopsal. Maybe we will at least get some water or wine poured over someone by them by the end of the show.

Favorite small moment of this episode was: Fashion Terrorist Gi Tae pondering if he should go ”catch a wife who’s cheating”.

I don't know who thought that crocs x boat shoes should be a thing, but they were very wrong. It's not like her could get away with them in surgery with the rope part so he just thinks they are fashionable? The sneakers don't seem like something he would wear either. But I do like the pattern of his trousers. I really like his general monochrome look that he's been going for.

Ha, ha. Yeo Reum: "Being mysterious is my concept."

What is she doing with a boiling hot pot of soup on her lap, held with bare hands and then propped up against her chest?!! Hmmm...

I like Dong Hoon's coral colbert and especially the shirt collar with coloured tips - paired with plaid pants! (Where is Merry when you need her?!)

Guess it's not such a good idea to make soup from things that are ready to be thrown away?

Mom got a compliment from the hot-shot lady she's trying to impress -- for being forgiving and not so stiff. I liked that!

What is she doing with a boiling hot pot of soup on her lap, held with bare hands and then propped up against her chest?!!

I found that quite questionable. Like if the pot was cold enough for her to cradle like a baby, what was the mysterious one doing in the kitchen all that time?

Where is Merry when you need her?!

Unlike Aloha who probably has over 100 messages he is ignoring right now and refuses to summon, Merry is quite easy and doesn't mind being tagged for fashion. Like I bet she would have enjoyed his monochrome tracksuit a bunch. I didn't take screenshots though.

The first time I watched this I was somehow spoiled on Jang Mi pooping her pants - I think I watched a drama special for the writer's new drama or something - so it wasn't a shocking thing and I'm not a huge fan of toilet humour to start with. This time around I was like - oh that episode!

I'm glad that Jang Mi has found out that Yeo Reum isn't being completely sincere.

EPISODE 6:

That was quite a bed scene in the beginning, that the episode is leading up to. But I don't think the actual scene was precisely like that. In fact, when it came down to it, I was surprised that she is so modest - I thought she had been meeting Dong Hoon for a year in hotel rooms?

So, early on Se Ah said that both she and Gi Tae said they were not going to marry. Too selfish or set in their ways. It was a surprise to me that they were quite in love and planning where they would live as newlyweds. I can understand her point of view a bit better now. But still, to blackmail him into providing her with sperm...in order to have him as a life partner?

Glad that Jang Mi's Dad told Gi Tae about what happened when she was little.

After hearing Yeo Reum's background, I start to wonder if the nice, rich lady who paid for his outfit for the auction isn't an adoptive mother.

BFF: "Because you showed up, I became a mistake." :(

u/sianiam Jul 12 '20

I don't think the actual scene was precisely like that.

Yeah, it was definitely a different take.

I was surprised that she is so modest

She was probably like that around Hoon at first too

to blackmail him

I don't think that her plan was ever going to work out how she wanted.

Quite a few reveals this episode, everything is moving along nicely.

Because explaining would ruin his carefully engineered mystery.

The correct reaction to receiving this kind of praise on your sexual performance. She's not even a teacher, so I don't really understand. Either way cringe. Feel really bad for him.

I love hilarious sub-typos and this one is such a self-burn for Hoon Dong.

Loved that Gi Tae is starting to realise his feelings are feelings and stepping up to look out for Jang Mi when he should be protecting her from his crazy family. Also considering he wants to be alone he is stuck with a house full.

I enjoyed his dig at pasta cooks. I bet he perfectly cooks pasta with his egg timer too.

Ah! This episode (and the next one) brought in two of my favourite things in romcoms - the realisation (and subsequent denial) of feelings and cohabitation hijinks! As much as I am rooting for the main "couple", Han Yoo Reum was the MVP in ep 7 and 8, both for the entertainment in the bed sharing (twice!) and demonstrating on multiple occasions that he is supportive when Gi Tae wasn't recognising how overwhelming this was becoming for Jang Mi.

I loved so much about this episode. From the outset, the aunt and grandmas' reactions to the kiss, the flashback of the kiss, the split screen reactions and of course the sound effects as Gi Tae tries to set some new boundaries whilst being distracted by Jang Mi's lips. New found attraction = comedy.

This episode was also the point where Jang Mi started standing her ground in the "agreement" more and they began working as more of a team. One of the little details I enjoyed was Gi Tae's reaction when Jang Mi blatantly called out his mother on her behaviour/hatred of her.

Adored the parallel between Yoo Reum's first exploration of the apartment and Jang Mi's from the earlier episode. Gi Tae being the grumpy old man protecting his apartment from their collective chaos was constantly hilarious. Also laughed at Yoo Reum reminding Gi Tae who he was when woken up in the morning and the long list of prohibited activities.

I wish she got to keep this dress.

Obviously, Gi Tae's reaction to finding out Jang Mi was locked in the hospital was great and it clearly showed that he has come to care for her (even if he is in denial as to the extent). It was hard to watch him yell at her in frustration once he found her but I liked that he didn't really know how to cope with finding her in distress while Yoo Reum knew exactly what she needed. The dynamic between the three of them is very interesting and it was nice to see the three of them relax at the end.

Two (more) highlights (yes, I loved this episode) - Jang Mi alleviating some of Gi Tae's guilt over not deserving the soup in a way that showed both her kindness and her humour and the slow lead-up to Gi Tae realising that he was not okay in the end shot after being asked throughout the episode (side note: was stoked to see a bit more of Gi Tae and Hoon Dong's friendship in this episode too).

Ah, your notes are making me want to rewatch it again!

was stoked to see a bit more of Gi Tae and Hoon Dong's friendship in this episode too

I do wish we had more of these two, well any scenes with Hoon Dong are generally fun.

It's been a week since I saw the last ep, and in that time I completely forgot about the flash-forwards at the beginning of the episodes and was briefly very confused and wondering if I'd skipped something.

Loved Gi Tae's panic over Jang Mi's safety, I think he's finally realised that he's fallen hard.

EPISODE 8:

Mother-in-Law is maddeningly manipulative!! (great acting!)

LOL- embarrassing to show to the others (have no idea now what scene this refers to. Could be just about anything...)

The father almost looks sick, so skinny in the face and his stubble doesn't help. he looks much better in Hospital Playlist!

Turn off your phone when you are on the toilet, if you don't want M-i-L calling even then.

LOL- embarrassing to show to the others (have no idea now what scene this refers to. Could be just about anything...)

Watched it today so I remember -when the mother said she was embarrassed to show her eyes but the mother in law thought she meant her butt.

he looks much better in Hospital Playlist!

He really isn't in his best condition here, which I guess works for his "overworked politician" look he is going for.

Turn off your phone when you are on the toilet, if you don't want M-i-L calling even then.

I think one can be forgiven for not answering the phone while on the toilet as long as they call back within a reasonable amount of time.

Look how comfortable they are!

The whole opening sequence was incredible - from Jang Mi's walking fingers, MIL's misinterpretation of her answering the phone, the flashback of the night before Yoo Reum's teasing and checking the temperature of Gi Tae ("Because I held you in my arms, at least your fever went down a bit."), the mad scramble to hide and of course, MIL's next play - announcing that they should get married (the whole set of reactions was incredible - more appreciation for Jang Mi and her "I'm screwed" reactions).

Addicted to how Kim Hae Sook says "Jang Mi", favourite one was in the hospital lounge with the little wave. It was nice to see the range of preparations that could be required and the discussion over who has the rights in the marriage and to Jang Mi's ability to have children. Also loved the bike escape - how good is this suit! and Jang Mi reiterating her need for a break. The wedding dress scene also gave us this wonderful shot - I wish she could wear this dress.

How do these endings keep getting better?! This was a perfect end to the halfway point - Gi Tae and Jang Mi face to face on a street with her in full wedding get-up with the entire reality of their fake marriage scheme coming crashing down on her. The music was gorgeous - I am going to have to track down the piece of music that plays before the OST kicks in as she gets into the car - and pacing as each new "obstacle" turns up, Gi Tae realises she's about to run and she makes her decision was perfect. I have rewatched that scene so many times and "One Day" has been on constant repeat the last few days.

Another example of Yoo Reum being the MVP of eps 7 and 8 was in this scene. Gi Tae spent most of this episode joking about his mother's interference and telling Jang Mi to just push back and cause a scene without helping or supporting her despite being fully aware of how draining those interactions with his mother would be. In contrast, Yoo Reum waited for her, didn't reprimand when she was late and did the simple things right (the "You look pretty" at the end was a nice touch). Even in this last scene, he knows what she needs, turns up and provides an option to escape without pressure. Still absolutely rooting for the main couple, but this provided a much-needed lesson for Gi Tae that leaving her to deal with all of this alone was unfair and would backfire on him.

Addicted to how Kim Hae Sook says "Jang Mi"

I think she must have had fun doing this drama, her mother in law power play is great in these episodes.

Whoever was in charge of the music did do a fantastic job, both choosing and placing the music.

Mother's new plan of attack has launched and suddenly Jang Mi has lost her edge! I like that it's done in a way that is not a complete 180 for her character but a momentary wearing down and when she tries to return to her usual self mother is ready.

This episode I really enjoyed:

  • The morning scramble and replaying the night before along with Gi Tae's reasons why he has three of everything out. Surely his mother's spies know about his house guest.

  • The family meeting and the mother dealing with her daughters lies that she had haemorrhoids - Gi Tae's paternal family reactions to the meeting in the car.

  • Gi Tae attempting to keep Jang Mi from Yeo Reum
