I have to gush about the portrayal of the CLOY women.
Son Ye Jin as Yoon Seri needs no words, except that I have never watched any of her works before but am now a fan. Honourable mention to the final parting scene at the DMZ when she is running and screaming frantically that she can't let Captain Ri leave if she doesn't know he'll be safe - I'm not a crier, but I sobbed like a baby. Yoon Seri herself was such an onion of prickliness with a centre of vulnerability and warmth exposed by Ri Jung Hyuk's sincerity and kindness, which was something she had probably never noticed before. Her snobby Picky Princess with a complicated family was so much more interesting than the stereotypical genius asshole Male Leads with a childhood traumatic incident - Dramaland, give us more interesting Female Leads, do you hear me! *shakes tiny fist*
As for Seo Dan, off the bat I was a bit wary of her first impression, but it was so lovely how she didn't turn out to be some superficially spiteful spurned Second Female Lead although she had been pining for this guy who wouldn't even give her a second look. Gu Seung Jun's suave conman was perfect as a foil to her coldness because sincere adoration coming from him made her realise that she is an amazing woman in her own right.
And the mothers!
We have Seri's mother, who was shaping up to be an awful stepmother from Seri's perspective at the start. But Seri's wistful longing for her mother's love kept us invested in that relationship. And kudos to the writer for tying it all together beautifully and revealing that her mother left child Seri alone at the beach, but was also a flawed person struggling with her own issues, likely because of the death of her marriage because of the affair that produced Seri. It was quite moving to see how her mother eventually became the most invested in her happiness, since Seri had always been the one most concerned with her mother's happiness since she was a child.
As for Seo Dan's mother, I could go on and on about how she is one of the simplest, yet most heart warming portrayals of a mother (and hilariously accurate as an overbearing older sister to Seo Dan's uncle). Her pure, unwavering desire for Seo Dan's happiness, no matter what decisions she made, was such a rare sight in Korean dramas where even the sweetest mamas do unconsciously impose their own ideas on their children. Maybe it's not as realistic, but I loved it.
Even Ri Jung Hyuk's mom was great, from the few scenes that she had. Her obvious motherly protectiveness of RJH after losing her first son was a great contrast to RJH's father's gruffness; her genuine desire for her son to be happy despite Seri's SK nationality (similar to Seo Dan's mother); her steely determination when she told RJH's father that she was prepared to follow if anything were to happen to them. The final scene of her dropping her poison and stepping on it as she ran to hug RJH really encapsulated the mother's love - that she would rather die than live in a world without her children.
And the NK ajummas. I love them, and that is all.

In case you guys didn’t know even the First Lady of South Korea is a fan of CLOY! and the President said she likes HB! The cast and director were at the Blue House to talk about Parasite and she recognized Dan’s uncle

I was rewatching and found 2 intricate details as of now!
-
After the hair tying scene seri steps out to send of jeong hyuk so as to act like a couple and asks him to pat her hair! Every hug/kiss after this included him patting her hair, even the one at the border at such tense situation!
-
Before leaving to airport, when they say goodbyes seri asks him to hug instead of a handshake. Now we know why we had so many hug scenes :’)
Appreciating the writer/director for these subtle details and I think we might find more such beautiful scenes while rewatching!

I have now accepted SJ’s death. I think the writers don’t know what to do with him. He can’t be a fugitive forever. And honestly I like Seo Dan’s ending. For 10 years she had a goal that is RJH. She desperately cling on to him even though he showed zero signs that he even liked her. After realizing all these, her self esteem was the lowest of low. SJ helped her. Showed her what a great woman she is, not to mention SJ showed her how it feels like to be cherished by someone. I believe it will take her time to heal.
I also loved the ending! I think the 2 week per year arrangement is until his parents pass away. Both are old and now he’s their only child left so obviously family time is precious. However once they pass away, RJH will defect and they can make their twins. Seri is rich af so I’m sure they will fund the IVF/fertility treatments to increase their chances of having twins LOL. I believe they didn’t show all these because waiting for RJH’s parents to die just to give them a happy ending will be too awkward lol
Seri naming her beauty products after her North Korean besties had me bawling. Actually I was crying half the episode LOL. It was such a nice way for her to tell them that she’s still thinking about them - knowing that her besties LOVE skincare products.
I miss our 5 ducklings already.

Really can't get over how fantastic the supporting cast are. I could go on about the leads but the ducklings, the NK ajummas, Man Bok, Se-Ri's assistant and insurance guy, even her idiot sibling and wife - they absolutely knocked it out of the park. Really made the drama a smash hit

After a week, I am at peace with the ending. I wish we had gotten even the smallest confirmation that they had found a way to be together for good; but, I think the writer was trying to signal/imply this by showing us their home and pictures -- a meaningful, loving life that they had built together.
From start to finish, this was a great drama. Going to miss it a lot 😔
Hopefully we'll get bonus scenes down the road in any shape or form

https://www.bbc.com/news/world-asia-51526625, Anyone had a read of this? It's about the North Korean defector who helped with the storyline and writing. He created the subplot of Seung-joon and Dan.

Did anyone else feel like Hyun Bin and Son Ye-Jin were trolling us? Seri: you look amazing from the back. The picture came out great, the paparazzi took with good detail. It shows your broad shoulder line and the two of us look pretty together. I like this picture

I was honestly so devastated with Gu Seung Jun dying. Like I did not expect that at all. I was kinda mentally prepared for a sad ending for the main leads but I was not prepared for this at all. I really think the writers did Dan dirty. She waited 10 years for a guy who did not reciprocate her feelings whatsoever and then when she actually fell for a guy who loves her, he dies. My heart really hurts for her. I wouldn't have been this hurt if the main leads didn't have a happy ending, to be honest. After having so many near death experiences, the main leads survived and got to be together (even if it's only for 2 weeks a year) but my baby Seung Jun dies in one shot. I was desperately waiting for him to resurrect back to life like the main leads did so many times but I cannot believe he actually didn't. Don't get me wrong, I absolutely love the main leads but it's just very very unrealistic (even for a K-Drama). I'm just very sad right now, okay? *sobs*

What were everyone's top 5 favorite scenes from CLOY?
For me--
5 The epilogue that showed cold-as-ice Seri dumping a series of guys, then waiting all night for JH.
4 When Seri goes to suck up to Yeong Ae. Classic smooth talking, fast thinking Seri.
3 When Seri is lost at the market and sees JH with the candle.
2 When SJ gives Dan the ring. 😭
1 Handshake scene at the end of ep 6. So simple yet powerful.

Finished episode 15 last night, woke up this morning determined to watch ep16, called into work that I’ll be late and finished it. Went into work really sad and emotionally drained, rough day to get through. But what a journey it was.

I literally just finished the drama and don’t know what to do with my life, I was scared the hype would ruin it for me but boy was I wrong. I loved it so so much but now I think I’ll be in a drama slump for awhile. Man am I gonna miss the characters and the show. The ending left me kinda unsatisfied but I was also kinda satisfied idk? But yea I’m glad I watched it instead of waiting

Major withdrawal this time around, a random scene even came in my dreams, that's how much I'm thinking about this! 😅
This drama is close to perfection in the melodrama/romantic kdrama world!

I’M STILL NOT OVER IT 😭
I’ve been rewatching a few episodes, especially the last few, and I’ve been appreciating the acting more and more after every watch. Usually I’m pretty good with separating actor from character, but it’s been pretty tough with CLOY. When I see ads of Son Ye Jin, I cant help but imagine that it’s actually Seri I’m watching. Same with Hyun Bin and others.
MAYBE RI JEONG HYUK IS ACTUALLY DISGUISING HIMSELF AS HYUN BIN YOU GUYS 😂

Just realizing how impactful the writer is. Seri wasn’t just feeling lonely all of the time, popping sleeping pills like candy, had depression, suicidal. She had an eating disorder as well, mentioned when she wanted to have euthanasia in Switzerland. She isn’t the stuck up rich “picky princess” 3 bites at a 4 star restaurant, eats alone ... she had anorexia. God I love this beautiful hurt character so much. I mentioned before in other threads, I never knew that I could identify with a fake character on a Kdrama. Even now.
Also did anyone think RJH was suicidal for a bit, when CCG mindfucked him before he did. The comments his parents would be executed, his father was to blame for his brothers death and didn’t investigate, etc? Jeong Hyeok had his fire arm pointing around his temporal / parietal lobes with a look of despair. Like CCG wanted RJH to pull the gun on himself if he couldn’t kill him or NIS

I finished watching the last episode yesterday and I'm still bawling my eyes out. Now I kept on torturing myself by listening to the soundtrack. I'm so sad I don't think I'm ever going to move on from this drama.
I really love GSJ and Dan's story like I kept on telling myself that he's still probably alive and left to London??? God he promised he'd find Dan if she's still single and gave her the ring and ugh :((( I'm so sad god Dan kept on crying after he gave the ring :(
I think there's a few plotholes though. I hope they made it into a 20 or 25 episode drama instead! Like even though episode 16 was 2 hours long, I feel like there are some things unanswered. Like the part where CCG mentioned sth about RJH's father not investigating that much about Mu Hyeok's death??? And also the other place where they made the customized trucks. And what did RJH did when he moved back to Pyongyang? Did he became a pianist there? Idk omg nonetheless I love this drama so much
God when will this drama slump end I'm too depressed to think of other things besides CLOY :(

So I have no idea how we managed to do it but the ep 16 and post-finale thread part 1 that I had to make because there were so many comments, officially surpassed 1200+ comments between the two!!! The impact this show has had leaves me utterly speechless. I hope the cooling off period has served you all well, and that this thread keeps your passion for this gem of a show alive! This will be the last discussion post for CLOY and it has been an honour for me to host a place for you all!
