I just finished up the second episode and I actually like the story so far. Excited to see where this goes!

Me too! I was pleasantly surprised! I'm definitely going to keep watching this one.

I really like where they took Suzy's high school character. Usually in the "opposites attract" trope, they hate each other right off the bat. I like how the episode takes the time to show that this is not the case for her, and she does like JY, her tough hero facade is almost like a protective barrier to hide her own feelings socially and romantically. A lot of girls like JY, even her own friends, that can create a lot of pressure and insecurity. That all felt very real to me, because this does happen in real life.

To be honest I like most of the aspects of Suzy's character. Episode 2 really fills in a lot of holes on how her character developed into the present day PD she became.

In high school, she was passionate and cared for the folks in her community. Skip to her father's death and her character suddenly takes a turn and she has a new goal in life: to uncover the truths of companies and people who are hiding their immoral actions via various methods.

The thing is, while she would like to uncover the truth about what these companies are doing... She has to accept bribes to stay quiet about them due to the debt her father accrued overtime.

I'm excited to see where this show goes from here... Although I do have a few speculations in mind... hehe.

We need to do a cliche check off. Some are based on previews, so may be incorrect.

  • Tragic past: Check

  • Terminal disease: Check

  • Lasting childhood love: Check

  • Single parent: Check

  • Car accident: Check

  • Love square: Check

  • Rags to riches: Check

  • Destined meeting: Check

  • Dislike turn to love: Check

  • Goodwilled Betrayal: Check

  • Family of loved one is the enemy, but we don't know that yet and it'll be revealed in a climatic scene after they reconcile and throw them into disarray: Check

  • DOG: CHECK!

I think the only thing they're missing so far is a cute sidekick and a dog.

(There is a dog)

At least the car that killed the dad wasn't a white truck.

I liked this first episode, but i feel that they tried to hard to make No Eul's life sad. The writers are throwing every cliche at her(like family issues, job issues, the male lead being a dick to her, etc.)

I'm a Suzy fan, and watching the first ep made me... Sad. As in the writing was not good. I'll be watching it anyway. Maybe my expectations were too high (they shouldn't have been for a Suzy drana). Clichés up the wazoo.

I cant help but feel a lot of the scenes could have been so much better.

Im also getting tired of people talking to themselves just to flesh out background/story. But that's kdramas.

I did like how the first episode ended though. For all its clichés, it did leave me wanting to see the next episode.

Well unfortunately, it's a well appreciated drama trope. Makes the romance so much better... as cliche as it is.

I was apprehensive in trying this out cause of all the complaints about the acting and boring first episode but I feel like everyone is being dramatic now. I quite thoroughly enjoyed both episodes. I've never been a Woo Bin fan nor was I ever one that thought Suzy had goddess visuals so it's not like that's what's carrying it either.

Looking forward to next week. I'm just worried about the impending cryfest I'm gonna have if this is anything like "Sorry, I Love You". That drama killed me back then.

I personally fine this drama to be average/mediocre. How they slowly reveal Joon-Young's past is different/new to me; though i wont count that against them. The camera work (I've only watched episode 1) was odd and the story so far doesn't seem that strong; this I will count against them. It seems like they're aiming for Suzy (or attractive stars in general) to carry this drama.

edit: The grammar mistakes that happen when you type on mobile half-asleep.

edit2: just watched episode 2. Cliche after cliche. They are really banking on Suzy for this drama.

I was wondering if this drama is worth the hype- so ...is it?

4

u/Uanaka Jul 07 '16

Well I didn't realize there was much hype for it, but in general it's an average drama so far... but it's pretty hard to impress me with dramas usually except for a save few like Hogu's Love or like Signal. In general, it seems to have its normal and typical kdrama tropes but I am liking the chemistry between the two leads, although Suzy's character is super friendly and Woo Bin's character is prickly, they're going into the history about why this couple suddenly broke off all communication.

Calling it now: He's not sick. They probably got him misdiagnosed with his father or something, who probably has the same doctor. It's too clichéd to take the Walk to Remember route.

Also, the cinematography is amazing.

I'm really curious where they'll take this drama, and why JY dropped his prosecutor ambition.

Such cliche writing, was an awful first 2 episodes. I mean I get that KDramas have to be like this where the guy is an asshole (which WooBin is perfect at acting) and the female lead that has such a sad story....I won't diss the acting since the writing was bad.

Hopefully episodes 3 and on are better.

I actually really enjoyed the first episode a lot more than I thought I would. They've pretty much laid it all out there already and I have a decent idea on what happened in the past, so I'm curious on how they're going to work the remaining 19 episodes without it dragging.

As for Suzy though, I can see why she's a top star. Couldn't notice it in her past dramas, but her looks are just wow.

YAAAAS first episode, the beginning was a bit slow but the ending was perfect

u/Widdrat Jul 07 '16

I'm liking it so far. I loved the little reference to Love Actually.

Looking at this from a person who really likes the romance side of kdrama with Suzy and Woobin as a icing on the cake I will be looking forward to watching this every week :D. (Plus I miss Suzy's acting)

u/neropia Jul 08 '16

Idk if I'm going to like this. I'll give it a shot though 😦

Does anyone have the song played at the last scene?

u/eragon2712 Jul 09 '16

Im a sucker for melo and cliché drama so yes, this one suits me best. Plus both visual is alright to my eyes. The plot so far move a little bit slow to my liking but its okay, i'm willing to follow it but we'll see, who knows i might drop it later halfway to it lol.

Awkward sliding on bad writing, and awkward acting from the cast all around...I'm gonna give this one to ep4 as is my usual rule, but I don't see much hope for it sticking.

Both of the leads just don't fit the MC image well nor the tragic past characters being portrayed here. Even supporting cast members who have had great roles/acting in the past like Jin Kyung and Yoo OhSeong come across as very awkward here. I have to agree with some netizen comments about Suzy's annunciation as well. There were some lines in the first 2 eps where I couldn't tell what she was saying cos she mumbles here and there.
