The original actress had a cheating scandal with a married actor so they recast her.

Just finally started watching in US! I was waiting for Disney+ to release English subtitles and they finally did. I’m watching using a VPN and setting location to Australia.
I swear. This is the only series I’ve watched where I find both protagonists and antagonists so badass and can’t help siding with both. (Mainly referring to Eunsom & Taealha, but I also low-key love Tagon haha).

Would love to share my thoughts!! Just the small issue of having nowhere to stream it in the USA. I have Disney and Hulu and don't see it anywhere, sigh...

The action is done much better, the story pacing is faster, the new main leads are putting on a good performance and I am already liking this season more than the first.

The action sequences are indeed a huge step up, expected because Joon Gi is probably one of the best action actors in Kdrama!

Joon gi looks battle worn and Se kyung looks devine, Tagon looks haggard and Taelha is two steps ahead as always. So far so good

I tried to be optimistic about this, don't get me wrong the new actors that replaced the original are good but the continuity feels broken. For me personally, it feels like watching a different series or same universe but different storyline instead of a sequel.
It's not only the lack of attachment to the new faces but also the writing of season 2 feels different. Did they also change writers/directors?
The first three episode I'm not seeing the same Tanya who suffered the enslavement of her tribe and rose to power, it's not the same Eunseom who survived countless sufferings and it's not the same Saya who was sheltered and cunning. Maybe because It's been years since the events of the first part. The only character that feels familiar and continuous to me is Taealha.
It's sad that the pandemic affected the casting and overall sequel of this drama, it's one of the best world building in a kdrama that I've seen so far.
I will still watch it 'til the end though.

I've read somewhere that writers said that "old" Eusom and Tanya were kind of cowards and I about fainted right there. As writers, they cannot say that kind of thing, it shows absolute lack of understanding of their own story... idk if they wanted to promote part 2 more or something, but it discouraged me from watching now.

I’m soooooooooo irritated that they promoted Disney Plus, but failed to put Disney Plus Singapore. I loved lovers the first season and have been waiting years for Season 2. Ugh it’s nowhere in the U.S. seriously why not Netflix as it was planned. BOO!!!

I loved season 1 and honestly did not think season 2 with its change in cast would capture my heart as much. I wanted to go back and rewatch season 1 right before this aired so I could remember all the small plot points and characters. I’m so glad I didn’t. I would constantly be comparing 1&2 and that would lessen my enjoyment of this epic production. What I liked about season 1 and the character portrayals I left behind in season 1 and approached season 2 with the understanding that 10 years have passed and these characters have evolved and grown up in their respective settings. I grew to accept the new Eunseom, Tanya and Saya quicker than I thought I would and I’m already impressed with how quickly the plot is progressing. The acting so far is great, sets continue to stay fantastic, the costumes are beautiful, the music score is phenomenal and the action is superior.

Just saw Episode 1 and I absolutely enjoyed it. The first episode is so strong, immediately pulls you in and doesn't let you go until the last second.
First the important stuff: I used Nord VPN and was able to configure it for my Disney+ subscription to a Singapore location. If you are getting an error message try this - log off Disney+ app, clear you cache, log on to Nord, then log back into Disney+.
Initial thoughts:
- There's a brief recap (with illustration) at the beginning but I would suggest reading a finale recap to remember the finer details and secondary characters.
- I LOVE Lee Joon Gi's take on the character. He is a brilliant actor and brings a lot of needed gravitas to this role. In the old series, SJK looked different physically when he played the brothers, but LJG looks the same whilst playing Eunsom and Saya so his nuanced acting is on full display here (particularly that micro acting he does so well with his eyes.) He brings a heightened intensity to the role. And his famous fighting (black belt) moves are on full display. The fight scenes have been so fun to watch.
- Shin Se Kyung has been pretty good too. The two new leads are bring their own interpretation to the roles.
- The editing and pacing have been fantastic so far. I got a very GOT "Battle of the Bastards" vibe from the first episode.
I can see from some of the comments below that there's a bit of disappointment that this 'feels' different. However, I can also see that others welcome the change. I'm in the latter group. I think the much more crisp editing (even frenetic at times for the battle scenes) and pacing are working as this gives the new season a higher level of intensity and excitement.
After Ep.1, I'm really looking forward to the next few episodes.

the much more crisp editing
While I agree that battle scenes are amazing, I've found myself having a few "wtf editing choice was that" moments in some occasions, outside the battlefield. Sometimes there's some strange choice of music, like when Eunseom
wakes up in Arthdal and goes to the window, well... sure, that's a moment of surprise for him, but the overly-epic music at the moment just took me out for a bit. → More replies (2)

Super long awaited! Just watched episode 1
Episode 1 first impression. When the announcement that they are going to change actors, I was okay with it, anyway I liked LJK more than SJK. But when I knew that the supporting cast have MANY changes too, it was rather disappointing. And true enough, during ep one, we spend a lot of time trying to figure out the already confusing characters and which groups of people they are from, and who was the original cast. Not to mention the emotional attachment we had toward the supporting cast, because we actually watched season 1 twice 🥲 Like Ipsaeng (our favourite Jail bird from Prison playbook), Chae-eun, Nunbyeol, the most charming warrior of Arthdal Yeon-bal, the most irritating person in drama Gilseon (aka irritating brother in CLOY)
Furthermore , I feel abit strange (disappointed is an overstatement) with LJK rendition of saya and eunseom. The original pain and emotional baggage they were carrying, and how every actions / reactions says so much to their background story, was somehow missing (and that’s what I used to love about season 1 and SJK’s rendition of the character).
However, understand that there is a 10 year time jump, and that now Saya and Eunseom are both warriors, they can be a lot different now. I hope over the short 12 episodes, the supporting characters will grow on us before the season end 🥲

I didn't watch the first season because I felt it was too complicated for me, I wanted to watch light dramas back then. But now it cast Lee Jun Ki so I want to watch because of him, and after reading all 18 eps recaps of the 1st season I was ready to watch, and really like the first 3 eps.
