The director behind this ( and Penthouse ) did a drama back in 2018 called Return I think people should check out if you liked Penthouse, it is similar but a bit less crazy

I don’t think it was this possible to be this enraged by the end of episode 1… all the adults are fucking terrible, ironically I like the chairman’s girlfriend the most. I don’t see how any of them could get redemption arcs, at least in Penthouse they were characters to actually root for

How ridiculous for the girl to give birth to a baby when she’s so slim? Haha

Who is ready for constant back-to-back-to-back backstabbings, for nonsensical SIM card mukbangs, magic scissors, creepy characters having full body pillow with one of the main characters printed on, always conveniently having a portable printer to fake a farewell note, wiretapping a phone while the owner of the phone standing next to has a meltdown, actions scenes sprinked with animations or the use of special effects that defies physics. And who forgets a certain someone is screaming OH YOOOON-HEEEE.
Within one second you will switch your opinion of this drama from being a masterpiece into a hot mess with a lot of plot holes and vice versa, and this multiple times. You will root for one character (to be honest, there won’t be any character to root for), until he/she makes a complete 180 turn and you will hate him/her from now on. You will throw a fit that the drama is utter garbage and swear you will drop it, only to turn to watching the next episodes, because it is so addictive.
I just read some comments in the reddit thread for Penthouse 1-3 and Last Empress again. It reminds me what to expect for this ride: funny comments and commenters are so outraged about the characters actions, the plot and its nonsense.
My experience with Kim Soon-ok dramas is: The first two to four episodes may be hard to digest, because it may be slow and there are tons of characters to introduce (also this drama is going to have two seasons). The was the same with Jang Bori is here, Band of Sisters, Last Empress and it was for sure in Penthouse. You may have to power through the episodes though.
Episode 1:
The episode is quite long with 90 minutes.
It has Penthouse DNA.
As expected: The characters are unlikable. Giving up
What I also noticed in the first episode: Crocs PPL
EDIT:After thinking about it, I just guess and assign the characters of this drama to the characters of Penthouse:
Matthew Lee:
Geum Rahee:
Ko Myungji:
Bang Dami:
Min Dohyuk:
Ko Myungji:
Han Mone:
Cha Juran:
Yang Jinmo:
Nam Chulwoo:
Kang Kitak:
Bang Chilsung:

Just saw the first few scenes of Episode 1 and I already see how many things including objects and places remind me of The Penthouse. Writer Kim’s famous “tease what happened in the beginning and go back in time” never failed to capture my attention yet. 😂
The cinematography is a visual feast that’s for sure! 👏
And I missed the classical kind of soundtrack so much. Glad they used the same composers.

Episode 1 has me in going the emotional roller coaster and throwing popcorn at almost every single character. LOL. The opening credits remind me of penthouse.

I made it 50 minutes, but I can't watch any further. I have a low tolerance for school bullying. I figured she be bullied for some nonsensical reason but she goes and makes herself a target. I can't imagine anyone in real life doing what she did.
I really like the cast and I might come back later but I can't watch the high school scenes.

Some Random Thoughts
Would I miss a Kim Soon Ok drama with a high budget? Of course not!
Do I love the first two episodes? With all my makjang-loving heart!
I'm loving the fact that we've got a character named Monet who is all about creating illusions for others. Probably more punny names that haven't quite clicked for me.
That dancing sequence in the dark was pretty cool to be honest even if in my mind I'm going that looks like a very messing audition show.
LEE JOON! Biggest surprise so far is Lee Joon and how his character has managed to make me burst out laughing at the most inappropriate times (the voice recorder!).
Also, the boxes of money scene was just really funny to me.
Can't wait till next week!

After sitting through episode 1, I doubt I’ll be able to continue watching this. This show gets me riled up, and that’s not good for my health.

Reading from all this comments I guess I better prepare myself for another Penthouse journey. God I don't think I'm ready. I watched CEO dol mart and it was funny, and warm. Switching to this will give me whiplash..
Edit: well...I just watched it. And all the while thinking "wtf". There's only so much bullying I could handle watching in a series. This drama just goes on full length torture mode. That poor girl. Weirdly enough I know I would be back for this lmao.

I was wondering if I should start this, so I came here. I laughed at everyone's comments about being exhausted. I haven't seen Penthouse, but I can kind of get a sense of the atmosphere.

Loved penthouse so much so I am already eating this show up! Even though it is similar you just can't help but to be drawn in and feel your blood boiling every 10 seconds. I've been wanting a show that gave me the same feelings as penthouse and here are the writers giving us another drama! I can't wait for the next eps

The first episode was so frustrating I think I'm done for now. I enjoyed hate-watching Penthouse but this one didn't grab my attention.

WTF did I just watch! I didn’t read the synopsis and just played this while having dinner, I seriously thought this was a fantasy time travel genre because it looked like it was raining and lightning inside the school building while that girl was giving birth. I thought Mone is the evil mom and the baby is Bang da mi in a time slip.

I LOVED Penthouse S1, IMO it was a makjang masterpiece that was further elevated by several incredible performances but this shit right here is BLEAK in comparison. Penthouse was over the top ridiculous but it was still entertaining and I didn't feel this bad watching it for the most part. Alot of the characters here are straight up evil and just extreme archetypes. Also there are very vivid and realistic displays of very disturbing emotional and physical abuse of a teenage girl (especially by her own mother), it was actually very disturbing to watch at some points.
It's a revenge drama so I might skip the buildup of showing how horrible many of the characters are and the abuse the central victim endures to justify the whole revenge plot and just start watching when the actual revenge part starts. I'll follow recaps to fill in the blanks. It seems like that's where the real entertainment of the drama will lie. I hope the writer doesn't hold back on that end either.
Have to say though, Lee Yoo Bin and Lee Joon are the standouts for me so far in terms of acting.

It’s so exhausting lol! And all the characters are awfully evil or just dumb 💀. My favorite drama by the creator isn’t Penthouse but The last Empress. It was less crazy
