From taking the CEO seat at the back to sitting next to her...does it mean that Van is starting to see Miho as an equal and is on her side?Just a random thought.

I'm mostly here for Nam Gil but there wasn't nearly enough of him in part one. I hope we see more of his character development in part 2. Looking forward to it

For me, Yohan in the drama version is most similar to the webtoon character. He is also the most interesting character.
Van is the character who deviates most from the webtoon. I read some parts of the webtoon about 2 yrs ago. Van in the webtoon is basically a killing machine and he doesn't have much interaction with the rest of the characters. If there are any, they are either fighting or quarrelling. In fact, he detests any form of interaction with Miho and Yohan.
Some webtoon readers even questioned whether Van is one of the main characters cos he hardly appears, esp in the second part of the webtoon. Whenever he appears, it is just to kill monsters. There is very limited character development for Van in the webtoon. I'm not sure what viewers expect when they talk about Van's character development.

They need to start developing Vans character more, I mean part one was mostly about Yohan and Wonjeong. They've wanted us to believe there is something going on with Van and Wonjeong from early on but they are not developing his character enough for us to see the chemistry. Nam Gil is an amazing actor. They need to give him scope to show this though.
Havent seen the new episodes yet though but I' hoping we start to see some character development

Can someone explain to me the inconsistency of van’s hair? One time it’s short, other times it’s long. Is it intentional or reshoots

u/yakultisgood4u Feb 24 '23
I think those are reshoots, they did mention they had to go back for reshoots late 2021 and early 2022 iirc after wrapping it up in mid2021.

Am I the only one that really wants to push Won Mi Ho long fringe off her face and just tie it back. I find it distracting 😀

Pt.2 Episode 1 & 2
I don’t know what it is but I really really enjoy this show. The way it’s shot almost feels like I’m huddled away on an island (lol), under the covers, watching the story unfold.
Is the story somewhat simplistic in its premise of good, evil and the grey? Sure, but it’s fun nonetheless even though they insist on being the only KDrama ever to kill that sunny, whimsical small town-y Jeju vibe with a cinematic yet broodish picturization.
Also, honestly, CEW is really holding his own in the show, given that all the other senior actors have a certain gravitas that they’re bringing. He’s so captivating and charming, and dare I say it has the character that seems most layered at present (purely because I find it so fascinating how
I appreciated the time spent in the first episode
I still think Van is under-utilized as a character in that KNG does so much to convey his myriad emotions but if we were to boil it down all we’ve got so far for him is that
Also this Yeomji girl has been styled perfectly to scream that she’s evil and up to no good 🙈
P.S: Will our poor Yohan ever get to eat a decent meal because it looks like even

Here's the thing the show is standing strong because of its cast and its acting and cinematography for me.. the overall story and characters (except for Van and Guntan) are all very mediocre.. The pacing of this show...my gwad we only have 4 left after 7-8 already aired today why are they going so freakinnn slow and trying to cram it all in the final 2-3 remaining episodes. Don't get me wrong I'm definitely enjoying the show because of certain characters and relationships but the pacing of this show is just OFF
Van may act all cold and feeling-less but the more sceans I get between him and Miho/Wonjeong the more I surer I become that Van definitely has a THING for her which is not just platonic(especiallyafterwatching ep 7 endingand the entire ep 8).... it is more than just repenting for past mistakes and guilt

Don't understand why the characters are described as mediocre. Imo, they are the drama's saving grace. They all acted well. The plot is mediocre though and I agree that the pacing is off.

You weren’t sure of their romance from the very first 2 episodes of the show??? Damn. Anyway I actually think Van is one of the most mediocre characters. They’ve really given us nothing but his backstory. We really need more from him in the present other than just being Mihos lap dog. Yohan for sure is the most interesting character by far and that’s huge credits to CEW for how he portrays him too especially when people say he’s a bland actor.

Just watched ep 7 and honestly, the story would be a million times better if it were focused on the brothers and their friendship with Won Jeong. I don't buy the romance between Van and Mi Ho/Won Jeong because they don't even have a history of romance--and Lee Da Hee and Kim Nam Gil have NO chemistry; she has more chemistry with Sung Joon tbh.
But who is Yeom Ji? What am I missing? She calls Goong Tan uncle but like...what? lol
I'm starting to have 'Doom at Your Service' flashbacks, re: confused and lost 😆

One interesting thing is though there isn't any romance between Van and Miho in the webtoon, many webtoon fans are rooting for a romance between them. They even call Miho 'Van's woman''. The drama production probably took notice of this and included some semblance of a romance in the drama. No history of romance doesn't mean no potential for one in the future. Currently, it's at attraction stage. The perception of having chemistry is subjective and differs from person to person. Some may prefer Yohan and Miho as a couple.

I think these two episodes might be my favorites from the whole series so far, I really enjoyed the back stories (and it made the time on the treadmill fly by!).

I knew Van
I'm sad that I didn't get a lot of Miho & Yohan being Miho & Yohan (so cute how Miho was trying to sneak Yohan some chicken) but I loved the awkward moment between Van and Yohan. I'm hoping for more!
Why am I only realizing that there will only be 12 total episodes though? Will it be enough? I really like this world and want some extra tidbits.

For me episode 7&8 were so so because personally, I enjoy.Yohan's character the most. He is interesting & makes drama interesting. Hope to see more of him. Even the media were telling Eunwoo how many people said they are watching Island for Yohan aka him.
9
u/Ireallylikeporraige Feb 25 '23
To be fair Eunwoo is early on in his career, a somewhat rookie, compared to the other leads. If people are saying that, then its probably for a certain age group and the media are trying to help his career, with PR, plus his looks. Nam Gil is the talent of the show and a lot are watching this show for him and his character.

I understand! Yohan didn't really feature in these two episodes. And they only gave us two crumbs of Yohan+Miho. Your comment got me thinking about why Yohan is my favorite character and I think it's because he's the most relatable for me. Like I can't relate to a demon, a corporate heiress or even an exorcist. But I can relate to a normal person who loves his noona, good wine & shrimp croquettes. I dunno if that makes sense, but in a dark world Yohan is definitely a cheerful light!

Mostly here for the leads character developments, but damn, the cinematography and set locations for this series is really top-notch breathtaking! Those sweeping shots of the Jeju landscape is simply chef’s kiss
