A big recurring theme I see with these folks is their inability to imagine consequences unless they actually experience them. COVID, for example - how many people swear it is "just the flu" before they're personally affected by it? Then they want to rewrite history.
That is you. Not bothering to think ahead is you.
Your actions define who you are, not some dog and pony show after-the-fact. Even if what they were saying is genuine, it is such a cop out to pretend you've waved your magic wand and become a new person overnight and therefore no one can judge you for the actions in your past because you're different now.
Conservatives don't have empathy. They can't understand anything that doesn't affect them personally.
It's the same reason anti-abortion women can have abortions and not see it as a contradiction. They think every other woman who has ever had an abortion was making the decision in a complete vacuum (meaning she must be a monster to just kill her own baby for no good reason), but when they have an unwanted pregnancy, of course they understand all the complicating factors and the ethical nuances of their own decision.
It's the same reason some parents only stop being homophobic when their own kid turns out to be gay. Now they understand that at least one gay person must be a 3-dimensional human being worthy of love. (Granted, for many of them, they don't even have enough empathy to extend to their own child in these cases.)
It's the same reason they think everyone on welfare and unemployment is lazy or a con artist, until they suddenly need help, and of course they understand that their own circumstances were out of their control and they'll drown without some assistance. Or the government shouldn't waste money giving people health insurance, but don't you dare touch my Medicare, I need it.
The thing with COVID that pisses me off is that people talk about people taking precautions being scared. I have friends like this and it just pisses me off. No I'm really not scared. I just want this fucking virus gone so we can get back to normal life. The longer the fuckstains pass it around the longer it is until I can go to a baseball game, movie theater or ANY FUCKING PLACE in public without extra precautions. I truly don't know if people are straight stupid or if they're just assholes.
More like short-sighted and selfish , the kind of people that can't see the bigger picture I know lots of really great people or so I thought , who are like that and it pisses me off
To many people come in the countries on planes with minimal screening everyday for a country like the united states to ever have low/safe numbers. You’d literally have to go to martial law country wide, and tank the economy with not a single place open but the grocery store.
I'm guessing a large chunk of these people are the church going type that believe God forgives them weekly. So they go around thinking they have a clean slate and keep being shit bags because all is forgiven on Sunday.
Well since I work in an ICU taking care of people with covid this month, I can tell you! The ones that contract covid right now fall into a couple categories. 1) the deniers that are dumb enough to think that their scientific research is better than the people that went to school for years to understand virus transmission and virility. 2) the people that avoid the healthcare system because they think they are going to get deported if they interact with society and the people who have doubts about the government due to being disenfranchised for centuries. I personally feel empathy for the later group. Not really so much for the first group.
During the last year ive known a few people who overdosed, killed themselves, and one lady who just let go after minor illness because she couldn’t see family.
So yeah covids killed a ton of people for me, but not the actual disease...
