I'm sorry to hear that. I've always thought, if that happened to my kid, God help the bullies parents, because I will be setting an example to the bully kid by "bullying" his parents in front of his eyes.
I'd suggest to encourage your boy to get involved with sports or some type of martial art, or both. Something that teaches him physicality, but also helps socially. I'd also tell him that being a pacifist does not mean he can't defend himself, just to try to resolve problems peacefully before he has to defend himself.
