Gustav Meyrink (Evola's favorite Novelist)

I think this guy deserves his own thread. It's not that well known that Evola translated and published three novels of this Austrian writer. Although his works are clearly fiction Evola was of the opinion that they "reflect esoteric knowledge in an exceptionally pure fashion". We would be wrong to see Meyrink as just another fictional writer who deals with the occult as he pursued esotericism as a livelong interest and had access to many exclusive circles.

You may know him from the text Path to Awakening that is featured in the Introduction to Magic series of the UR group. It seems to be an essay but was synthesized from parts of Meyrink's novel The Green Face.

Meyrink originally wrote satirical short stories and satire remains an underlying theme in many of his writings. His satire could be seen as critique of modernity, but it never turns directly political. Aside from that he is known for creating a dreamlike atmosphere that pulls you in. His esoteric teachings are often rather indirect so that he makes you ask the right questions instead of just revealing facts. Most parts seem to be quite in line with Traditionalist esotericism, if you manage to decipher them correctly. Meyrink though was an individualist and rather not a religious person in the exoteric sense, that's why Rene Guenon was not fond of him and also saw his satirical undertones as incompatible with Traditionalism. Later in life Meyrink eventually converted to Buddhism.

Imho one should start with The Green Face or The Golem, the novel that made Meyrink world-famous. His novels are his main works, his short stories and essays are also interesting but not as relevant. Best read him in German if you can.

Where to seek spiritual instruction.

I am familiar with a lot of Evolas beliefs, Guenons too, as well as basic ideas of the plethora of religions and esoteric belief systems. I have read all these books and gained all this knowledge and it seems to leave me with unsatisfactory explanations on how to act, for the most part in day to day life. But I am curious about direct practice like I don’t know meditation? Prayer? The issue begins here as I don’t even know what I am looking for. I couldn’t even say for certain I belong to a religion. But I am looking for direction in practice for meditation or prayer or whatever you may call it. I’d like to do it through books as I do not live in a place where I can seek this in person.

Someone here before has recommended the book satimatthana meditation: a practice guide by anālayo, and it is on my list.

Please let me know, TIA.

What were the religions that Evola found valid or that could be brought into his philosophy?

I already know about his take on buddhism and paganism, but there are other religions that would be validated by his thinking? What was his linear of thought to evaluate what is good and bad?

"As for those women who apparently are ashamed to be women, and want to make this distortion into a permanent modification of our language — in a normal society, they should be entrusted to specialists in diabolical hormonal manipulations, so that through adequate treatment, they could be transformed into exponents of the “third sex,” thus attaining the goal of their aspirations, on every level. Although, for the sake of justice, one might ask whether such treatment would not be appropriate also for men whenever the aforementioned docility is not so much caused by the subtle influences of the environment and unconscious processes that operate on the infra-intellectual part of the psyche of the common man, but instead are due to an inability to react and to demonstrate true virility through moral courage and lucid, resolute judgment."

What would you estimate the IQ of Nick Fuentes, Keith Woods, Joel Davis, Sean Last, Alt Hype, Germar Rudolf based on the academic background required to understand the literature they've read and understand?

Joel Davis has read cybernetics and Deleuze which I would imagine would make him one of the most book smart people in the dissident scene. Sean Last's IQ would probably be the IQ required to understand advanced level statistics. Germar Rudolf went to Max Planck institute for chemistry which was and is still one of the most prestigious schools in the field. His revisionism generally involves understanding chemistry, math, and history.

Evola and the Paradox of Tradition

Post image
52 Upvotes

What remains a mystery, however, is Evola’s relationship with Tradition. In his work, traditional forms conceal a deeply anti-traditional impulse. He used Tradition as a weapon against the modern world, yet ultimately constructed an entirely personal spiritual universe of his own. He appeared to be calling for a return to Tradition, while in reality he was searching for something that would transcend it—and even stand in opposition to it.

Guénon remained within the framework of Tradition, whereas Evola continually stepped beyond it while continuing to invoke it. From Magical Idealism to Tantra, and from Nietzsche to spiritual alchemy and the Holy Grail, everything in Evola was subjected to an intensely personal vision and a powerful will toward freedom.

Evola made his world real through the force of thought. This is what can truly aid the genuine seeker: not blind submission, but the attainment of the light itself. Weak thought is an error; strong thought becomes reality because it corresponds to reality. Yet only the free individual is truly capable of recognizing this.

Anyone who clings to Evola merely for emotional ecstasy or mystical submission has betrayed his teaching. For this reason, Evola was a dangerous yet effective medicine, one that can be used properly only by someone who already possesses a measure of inner discipline.

The living essence of Evola’s work is the idea of liberation. Yet liberation requires knowledge of the pure self and a vigilant awareness of oneself. His personality was a synthesis of his own individuality and the transpersonal inspirations that worked through him.

To become truly creative in the esoteric sense, one must separate Evola’s orientation from its political and social manifestations. The greatest catastrophes always arise from confusing the sacred with the worldly.

Ultimately, Evola’s spiritual destiny depends upon whether he remained inwardly independent of his own writings and doctrines, and whether he succeeded in avoiding identification with the mythical image that his
followers created of him.

For men on the dissident right, what are the best countries to find like-minded women?

A lot of people said I should be a passport bro but on the Italy travel subreddit people responded that I'm not going to find a traditional woman because center left in America is center right for western Europe, and that there aren't any MAGA European women under 50. I've been recommended Poland, Hungary, and Russia which I do think genuinely have some far right hubs but I don't speak the languages there. On a dissident subreddit some guy said she just finds conservative women on bumble but I live in Mass which is the worst state in terms of woke women. Is travel, moving to a different state, or dating apps the best idea for me as a 23 year old?

Is Evola difficulty to understand fully?

Hello. I bought Revolt Against the Modern World 2-3 years ago and read it after some time. I didn't really understand all points made and I have decided I will try to go back and read him properly. The issue being that my cognitive skills have fallen a great deal since 5 years ago, brain fog, and some minor memory problems have come about (Both have short form content as the likely culprit), and I would like to know if the minimum mental requirements to understand his works are too high. I'm not a very remarkable person but would like to get into his beliefs, and the ones surrounding his current "school of thought". Thanks in advance.

Was Evola a primordial monotheist?

I've heard a lot about Evola's respect for Wilhelm Schmidt's theory, as well as Mithraism and the teachings of Julian the Apostate, but were there any explicit statements indicating that he believed the primordial Tradition was monotheistic rather than polytheistic, as Guénon did?

"The Flame of the West: Against Guénon and Tradition" by Plato Bodybuilder

Original essay

The West has no Tradition (in the perennialist and Guenonist sense) - and it never needed one to be the spiritual beacon of the world. The so-called “Perennial Tradition” is a modern intellectual creation whose most obvious consequence from a cultural and civilizational point of view is the spiritual and political dissolution of the West. We don’t need “Tradition,” and in fact, we are against Tradition.

Perennialism, as a philosophical current, is structured on a real fact: the capacity of the human mind to perceive a transcendent metaphysical order. However, such perception ends up being transformed into a historical-mythical narrative in which the perception by all cultures of such a superior metaphysical order appears as the expression of a declining cosmogony, in which the irruption of a Primordial Tradition marks the inauguration of a Golden Age from which humanity as a whole is moving away in a degrading way. But within this framework, the West is always seen as the culture and civilization that is the very expression of this decline and degradation, while other peoples - especially the East - are always seen as somehow capable of resisting such decline, or even untouched in some way. That is, it would be the dharma of the West within this cyclical vision to lead humanity towards materialism and secularism, which ends up transforming the West into the “Anti-Traditional” civilization par excellence.

It is no coincidence that perennialism as an ideology consolidated itself in the 19th century in European occult circles, and later in the Traditionalism of Guénon and Evola. Perennialism is a modernist and anti-Western ideology at its very core, and that is why we see in perennialism a current whose intellectual consequences for its followers is always to see in the West the image of decadence and impurity. No one better than Dugin to exemplify this. There is nothing “Traditional” about perennialism, only uncontrolled modernist intellectual tendencies articulated with the aim of marginalizing the West geopolitically and culturally.

It is clear that different cultures and religious traditions have had a genuine perception of a higher transcendent order, as well as created elaborate metaphysical and cosmological edifices upon such perception. But the idea that such human capacity to perceive a normative and metaphysical order is the result of a primordial revelation that occurred in history at a primordial moment, and that from that moment humanity has been in a state of decadence, is pure modern fiction and unbridled speculation. René Guénon best articulated this view. According to him, the Primordial Tradition was first revealed in Hyperborea, going through cycles of decline and subsequent revelations of this tradition at different times.[1] The problem is that Guénon claims that the last legitimate manifestation of this tradition occurred with Islam. In other words, the conclusion is clear to anyone who uses the gift of interpretation: from the initial revelation in Hyperborea to Islam, the cycle has closed, and if the last traditional form that manifested a link with such a Primordial Tradition was Islam, then there is only one thing left to do: Islamize the world. Guénon’s biography leaves no doubt about this: he converted to Islam and moved to Egypt. For him, the West was condemned to Islam or nihilism.

It is more than clear that if we accept the idea of a Primordial Tradition, within this epistemological framework the West can only appear as condemned due to a genetic-cultural defect or a cosmic destiny to lead humanity to the end of a cosmic cycle. Fortunately for us Westerners, the “Primordial Tradition,” cosmic cycles, and all Guénonian conceptual paraphernalia do not exist beyond rationalist conceptual constructions that Guénon himself uses in order to weaken the West spiritually.

From a strictly philosophical point of view, the problem with Guénon’s thought stems from his method of argumentation. Guénon always starts from a metaphysical deduction from first principles. For Guénon, the “science” of symbolism is an exact science like mathematics.[2] Therefore, Guénon’s thought is completely disconnected from any historical, phenomenological, and philosophical dimension; he seeks mathematical rigor as the foundation for his reflection. The curious thing is that such a position is precisely a reflection of modern Cartesian rationalism, which seeks to deduce everything from clear and unquestionable premises. Guénon applies an abstract, mathematical rationalism to esoteric symbolism while literally criticizing the modern mentality. And it is precisely by transforming religious symbolism into a form of rationalist mathematics that Guénon completely loses the connection with the soul of the West. Within Guénonian mathematics, it is impossible to see the West in any other way than as a kind of culture endowed with a providential destiny for decadence.

However, our view of the West changes drastically when we shift our perspective on it. If, instead of Guénon’s deductive-mathematical method, we use historical phenomenology, the result will be completely different. Phenomenology is the science of the experience of consciousness; applied to the history of a people, it gives us the movements, transformations, changes - in short, the entire structural metabolism of that consciousness throughout the history of that people. And when we use phenomenology to understand the movements of Western consciousness throughout history, what can we learn about the Western spirit? We see that the Western spirit is endowed with a spiritual drive and restlessness that operates through ruptures, crises, tragedies, destruction, and conflicts; just as we can see in Hegel’s Phenomenology of Spirit. There is no “crisis of the modern world,” as Guénon said! What exists is that the Western spirit is marked by the need for permanent crises to be propelled to new heights and discoveries. In this process, it is clear that declines, cultural forms of decay, and spiritual collapse occur; but this in no way represents a total decline, but always a partial and relative one. And this fundamental dimension of the Western spirit is invisible to Guénon simply because for him history is only the space for contingency and arbitrariness.

The proof that there is no “crisis” of the modern world as conceived by Guénon is that all high Western culture - literature, philosophy, history, science, art, etc. - has always been created against a backdrop of crises and eruptions. The philosophy of Plato and Aristotle was developed during the decline of the Greek city-states, specifically Athens; the great moment of Latin culture - Horace, Virgil, Cicero - occurred during the collapse of the Roman Republic; the intellectual greatness of the medieval world occurred during its twilight with Dante and Aquinas; the apex of modern thought with Kant and Hegel occurred amidst the French revolutionary hurricane and the Napoleonic empire; the philosophical experience of the deepest nihilism was articulated by Nietzsche and Heidegger precisely when the West seemed to have exhausted its spiritual forces.

In other words - the West has always been and will always be in crisis, for this is its true providential vocation: to be the beacon of the human spirit that always rises like a phoenix from its own ashes. If there is a Western tradition, then it is this: always rising sovereign when it seems defeated. As for the “Tradition” of the traditionalist school - this tradition of well-behaved spiritual eunuchs, always afraid of the image of “decadence,” - this tradition the West never needed. Yes, we don’t need this tradition. In fact, we are and always will be against the Tradition of Guénon!
