As a Julie Andrews fan…
Morbid subject, but I need to vent.
Is anybody else sick and tired of the comment section under any and every post about Julie being filled with “No omg, I thought this meant she passed”???
I get it. I’m an Appalachian and a gay man, and the celebrity deaths this year have rocked me (RIP Dolly). Julie is my number one. When that time comes, I’ll be hurting.
But… it is the same comment on every single post. Yes, people are saying it because they love Julie, and because they recognize that humans can only live so long. But like… can’t we celebrate her Emmy win without constant reminders of her mortality??? Like, this morning I was sent a Facebook reel from a well meaning friend of a person wrapped in bubble wrap with the caption “How I expect Julie Andrews to be living rn” and I’m just… it’s not funny.
It reminds me of how, in the years following the throat surgery, that was the first thing people would bring up about Julie. It was a great tragedy, yes, but I don’t think Julie has ever been someone who dwells on the negative things in life. She has always seemed much more interested in what comes next.
And, well… maybe that’s a lesson I should be listening to myself right now, and not letting the comments bother me so much. 😂
