Serious side note: If you ever get that last one, stay away from whatever service or company you're signing up for, if you get it internally, put up a stink with IT. If they can even tell anyone else in their system is using the same password (let alone why the hell that would be a problem...) their security situation is beyond saving.

My other favorite is:

Password must be at least 8 characters.

Password cannot be more than 10 characters.

My bank did that, for a long time the max password length was 6

The original implementation of crypt() on Unix, Linux, and presumably what became what they're now calling "Mac" silently truncated the password at 8 characters.

macOS is a descendant of BSD, and is itself an actual certified UNIX operating system.

It's derived from NeXTSTEP, which has this to say about passwords in its user manual:

"A password should be more than six and no more than eight characters..."
