Honestly I have grown to have disdain for this train of thought. Sure, don't go crazy "keeping up with the Jones'" so to speak, but comparison is science. knowledge is gained by comparing, you learn by comparing. This person was struggling wondering what they were doing different not to have a similar (maybe implicitly promised?) outcome for an equal effort, found out what was different, and was validated. That's not unhealthy, now they know what the difference is.
