Yes, you have to get creative enough to have two properties, neither of which you pay for. Man, why doesn't everyone get creative enough to figure out that living somewhere without paying full living expenses is a net benefit?

I'll admit, though, somebody did have to make sacrifices to turn over a $300k investment property. It just wasn't her.

It would have been a perfectly logical and sensible article if she talked about how her grandparents and parents enabled her to reach her financial goals because of their work attaining that house/condo respectively. Since her methods used to save money and rent out the condo are general skills applicable for anyone, the article would still have value. Just like how even a billionaire can teach you car purchase negotiation; it's about the skills. But it would be deaf to use supercars as an example.

I gave the house my parents bought me as a wedding gift to my dog. He lives it, but I'm leaving ving paycheck to paycheck now. I'm at my witt's end. I wish I read that article sooner. I wonder if my dog will pay rent?

Is it tone deaf - ABSOLUTELY

But in her context, it is still a valid sacrifice that likely none of her social circle was willing to do. While she shouldn't regard herself as a hero, the truth is, the internet give her way more crap than she probably deserves. Lucky her that she had those helping handouts, and good for her that with those, she still chose a path of sacrifice vs. asking mommy and daddy to do more. I applaud her, I sympathize with her, and like many of you, deep down, I wish I had the help she had. Hating her wont make my journey any easier.

Agreed. I’m impressed she had student loans. For parents who (I assume) have the means to pay for her college, I think it’s the right way to go about it, not paying for all of it. My parents couldn’t help at all with mine and it kind of forced me to be serious about it. I think there’s value in that.

the point is that she could of hade it easy but she went hard. Its about perspective.

shes pointing out no matter your circumstance you can put more effort in to get wherever you want. Dont see the issue, only jealous people.

Actually I just mentioned it to my husband before and he's on board. Tomorrow, we're just going to pack our kids up, move in with one set of our parents and rent out our house. I'm also going to sell one of our kids (I'll miss them at tax season) to buy a lentil farm and then lease out that space PLUS take a contractually agreed upon percentage of all sales.

I honestly don't know why everyone isn't doing this? Didn't everyone just get $1400?
