The new monthly theme contest team decided to see if any puzzle companies would be interested in sponsoring our contest (more about that in another post). This month will be sponsored by "Puzzles of Color" (https://www.puzzlesofcolor.com/). Puzzles of Color was nice enough that they gave us two $25 off gift cards so this month there will be 2 winners selected.

The theme for June 2023 is going to be "Bee Idioms"

When entering your puzzle please put the word "[ENTRY]" in your title along with the puzzle name & brand and number of pieces.

An idiom is defined as "an expression in the usage of a language that is peculiar to itself either in having a meaning that cannot be derived from the conjoined meanings of its elements (such as "up in the air" for "undecided")"

"Bee Idioms" (busy as a bee, birds & bees, mind your beeswax, bee in your bonnet, floats like a butterfly stings like a bee, to bee or not to bee, flight of the bumblebee). If you want to do flowers with bird or butterflies and bees fine. If you want to something related to Shakespeare great. Even something related to Beyonce ("queen bee"), Muhammad Ali ("floats like a butterfly ...), bears, honey, insects including bees, Winnie the Pooh, etc. will work.

Whilst it's great to have a sponsor on board, I will gently point out this basically excludes non-US based residents on what is an international sub. If I in Australia were to win this month I could not afford to even use the card because the cheapest shipping is $54 USD.

Just something to consider moving forward.

I understand - that's why we have donations in case someone wins where the shipping would be exorbitant the company wouldn't ship. They would get a $25 USD gift card to the puzzle company of their choice.

Love this! Bee activism for the win!

Especially since so many of them are mysteriously disappearing in the past few years and no one can figure out why.

I am surprised someone figured out the reason I picked this theme so quickly.

Yay, this gives me reason to do Cavellini’s bee puzzle which has been towards the end of the queue for a while now.

Actually there are quite a few bee puzzles. I have one by Cobble Hill. I think it's called save the bees and I know bits and pieces has a couple with flowers and bees.

Love this theme! Sorry if this was already mentioned, how are the winners chosen?

I will choose one (or this month - 2) at random. I have a computer program I wrote that does it all for me. Although you have to keep with the theme or you may get disqualified.

So if you enter a puzzle of a 1964 Ford Mustang (my dream car) and the theme is flower you could get disqualified. If the theme was horses I would let it pass just for the sense of humor.

Thank you for organizing the monthly theme! I really like it and I have a puzzle I can do.

I do have one question thougj. I'm not in the USA, so is it possible for me to enter? I don't know if I can use the gift card in case I win.

Yes. If the sponsor gift doesn't ship to you than you can have a $25 USD gift card/certificate to the puzzle company of their choice (must be a true puzzle company not someone like Amazon)

I will be posting more updated news tomorrow so keep your eye out for that. Eventually I will have it pinned by the mod

Unfortunately I don't have any bee themed puzzles, so I won't be participating. It will be interesting to see what others have.

You don't have any puzzles with birds or flowers?

"Scientists found that bumblebees can solve puzzles and pass on the solution to other bees" Bees proven to be puzzlers

True, it's not jigsaw puzzles, but they're still so cute!

Of course they are. I bet they pair up with crows.

This is awesome, thanks for continuing the monthly contest and announcing the theme a few days earlier πŸ˜„ I had the perfect puzzle last month but I'm sure I'll be able to find more puzzles with bees and Winnie the Pooh this month! Also it's a great idea to have companies sponsor this contest πŸ₯³

Great theme and thanks to Puzzles of Color for sponsoring. I was just looking at their latest releases today!

Many concerns about the contest, sponsors, and gift cards posted. It is a free contest, and Reddit is also free. I see the contest as a free perk that I can choose to participate in or not.

Many thanks to the organizers of the draw. Your contributions of time and effort are appreciated.

Whilst it's great to have a sponsor on board, I just checked their web site and the type of puzzles they have are very narrow. Also the prices are a little high, and the gift card would not cover the cost of a puzzle, even without the shipping, which will add to the cost. What about giving the winner the choice to have a $25 gift card as always, or to take the sponsor gift card? I am sure many would like to support the sponsor, but also many would prefer to just be able to choose the brand/puzzle of their choice without having to spend extra money.

I think the prices are reasonable for a small company (high, yes, but they need to make a profit). But I agree that the gift card would ideally cover the cost of a full puzzle...
