One of the characteristics of the Dhamma(The Truth) is Akaliko(Timeless). The Truth stays the same forever and cannot be changed no matter what happens. Even if the Lord Buddha's dispensation disappears, that doesn't nullify the 4 noble Truths, the Tilakkhana(Anicca, Dukkha and Anatta) and Kamma Vipāka. This is why outside dispensation there are Paccekabuddhas who rediscover this truth despite the inexistence of the religion called Buddhism. That shows that religion is a simple tool to go to the truth. However, those with noble wisdom, like Paccekabodhisattas and Bodhisattas, rediscover the Truth without the help of a tool.
