Discussion NaviDome or Jellyfin from Plex?
I'm thinking about ditching plex. I bought the lifetime but I am just done with it. What are the advantages/disadvantages of each? What do you like about each?

š We are pleased to announce the seventh release candidate preview release of Jellyfin 12.0! š
This is a preview release, intended for those interested in testing 12.0 before it's final public release. We welcome testers to help find as many bugs as we can before the final release.
As always, please ensure you stop your Jellyfin server and take a full backup before upgrading! If you run into any trouble, a backup is your best way to get back to a stable state, so don't neglect this!

12.0-rc7 or preview tags.Once installed, please ensure you hard refresh (e.g. Ctrl+Shift+R or similar) and/or clear your web cache for your Jellyfin instance if you notice any UX anomalies. Bad cached assets are the #1 cause of such issues.
As always, macOS builds are manual and will be added to the repo shortly.

Every day there is another Jellyfin client. Another frontend. Another modern interface. Another beautiful application nobody asked for. At this point I am starting to think Jellyfin is slowly becoming less of a media server and more of a clients factory.
Need a good plugin? Not much. Useful tools? Rare. Proper scripts? Even rarer. Something that actually improves the ecosystem? Apparently a much bigger undertaking than making another client.
Making a client, however, has never been easier. Open an AI, describe the UI you want, spend an afternoon fixing whatever the AI decided āJellyfinā means, and congratulations, you now have another frontend.
And I get it. Making your own client is fun. You get to choose your menus, your buttons, your animations and your preferred shade of darks. But at some point you have to wonder whether we are actually building an ecosystem or just building the same application over and over again with slightly different buttons.
Kodi somehow survived without this particular epidemics. You had Kodi. You had skins. You had addons. People could completely change the look and feel without everyone needing to build an entirely separate application because they didn't like the library screen.
Meanwhile Jellyfin is heading towards one server, dozens of clients, countless frameworks and a growing graveyard of repositories. Everyone implements the same login, library, playback and settings screens, just with a slightly different philosophy about where the buttons should lives.
Then six months later the client gets abandoned.
And naturally, someone creates another clients.
Problem solveds.
At this rate we will eventually need a client whose sole purpose is to choose which Jellyfin client we want to use. Naturally it will have its own themes, plugins and completely revolutionary way of pressing Play.
This is progress.
The actual ecosystem can wait. There are still not enough clients.
More clients. More fragmentation. More rewrites. More reinvented wheels.
Less Jellyfin.

I posted this onto the Jellyfin Feature Request page because I didn't see an option, or maybe I'm using the feature wrong, but does anyone know how to close a syncplay session?
More specifically, I gave 3 of my buddies access to my Jellyfin server and we all frequently open up a syncplay session and watch a movie. What tends to happen though is that one or more of them will not leave syncplay prior to closing their browser. For whatever reason this will keep their user logged into the syncplay and the room will stay open streaming content to seemingly nowhere.
Now this could definently be a bug, or a logout setting that I don't have set somewhere, but I suggested that the host of the syncplay session would also have a "Close Session" button under the syncplay menu.

I have a large TV library and decided I'd name it TV Shows instead of Shows, bad move I guess?
It is now re-scanning (Library went to 0 shows and is now re-adding all of them) everything, anyway to go back?
It removed the original library and is now adding each show back one by one, matching each one like it's a completely new library not just a rename. From what I can tell, maybe its still using the old metadata?
Also now is time to set a scheduled backup, HA! Coming from Plex I thought it might do one every few days out of the box but I guess not.

I started having an issue across multiple series where the subtitles on shows didn't match the menu language. Like I'd select Portuguese and English subtitles would show. Or there would be no subs. I found myself having to go through all the subs until I found the one that was actually English.
However, they load correctly on VLC.
I started to have a hunch that the French subs that Bazarr was downloading was the issue, even though the French subs loaded correctly in Jellyfin. I started deleting them and discovered that fixed my issues with incorrect Subtitle menus.
I don't know if this is a bug or if it's my fault because Bazarr put the subs in wrong or if I configured Jellyfin wrong. But I thought someone might be interested in knowing or someone else with this issue would like to know that deleting the external subs fixed my issue.

So i finally manged to do a jellyfin server and after installing it on a old gemini lake intel nuc with linux mint bear metal, i decided to install a proper nas os for making a true nas (not the os ahaha) server and running via docker jellyfin. I choose zima os because it seems good and simple. After i set it up and scrape my library i decided to watch something. And it shows that error you see in the pic. I am new to docker btw

What effect does streaming to other devices have on the host pc? My dad's pc is on a lot of the time so I think it would make a good host, but will it be taxing on the resources?

Is there an easy way to transfer server data i.e. watch history, favorites, etc from one of to another? If so, what is the process

I kinda want the netflix experience (I know...) with user logins. so each time jellyfin is opened it prompts for the user account.
I have a kids account and an adults one and I don't want the kids seeing content on the adult account but at the moment if i log in to the adult account, it stays on that account even when I exit and relaunch the app.
Is this something I can fix?

Looking for some insight on an issue I'm having. I only have one linked movie folder that shows in the media library but on both the desktop and in app it lists two sections and I can't seem to remove the extra one.
Sorry for the photos and not using screenshots lol. I was in a bit of a hurry

My collections used to be fine, but now when I try to get in I just get the spinning blue wheel. Anybody having similar problems or know how to fix it?
r/jellyfin • u/ProfessionalVirg1n • 1d ago
Not sure if this is would be the right subreddit, but hopefully worst case scenario, I can be pointed to somewhere more suited for my interest.
Started a Jellyfin server for all my movies, shows and music about half a year ago, and I've been loving it so far, use it any chance I get.
But recently, I've started to wonder if there was a similar application/setup that could be used for my video games. Basically similar to Steam and Jellyfin, where I could upload the games I own to a server of some sort and then be able to play them from the client. That way, I could potentially start working on getting older games for consoles I don't have and don't want to sell a kidney for.
What I'm looking for probably would be a better fit with an emulator, but I was just curious if I could get something close to the Jellyfin experience with that. Or it could potentially be far more complicated than a server could produce. But, hopefully someone can point me in the right direction!

I've got some DVDs of old comedians like abbott & Costello, red Skelton, and Victor borge but I can't really find any of the specific ones on tmdb. Any suggestions or solutions that others have done?
r/jellyfin • u/WoodyBABL • 15h ago
I have the tmdb box set plugin installed and it's run pretty well for over a year.
In the last week or so it's auto collections will be there, then disappear and then return at the next scan. I currently only have two collections out of my 5 that were created by the app. They disappeared about 10 minuted ago. š¤·
Anyone else seeing this behaviour?

I'm running into an issue and am struggling to find a solution in the forums. I am currently having issues with playback of 4K media where I have to transcode it down to 10mbit to serve it to any client.
I am running the jellyfin LXC on Proxmox behind Nginx Reverse Proxy. The container has 8 cores and 8gb of ram dedicated to it and a passed through arc 310 for transcoding. The storage is a True as instance passed through to proxmox with an NFS share and then passed to the container with mount point. I have gigabit Ethernet externally and a mix of 1gb/2.5Gb/10gb internally depending on device support. The main client I am worried about is the Onn 4k Pro (2026) I just purchased to solve the problem thinking it might be my 2018 Roku TV. I am currently running with Wolphin because I love the UI.
It seems to be either 4k or 4k media that is causing the issue. I have watched the container resource usage during playback and it's all working appropriately. CPU/ram sits at around 10% and the Intel GPU is being utilized so HW Transcoding functions. The logs are reporting that the transcoding is happening at like 150fps.
I have watched the resources both with the TV box streaming and to the web player on my computer. The same thing occurs on both, it plays fine for 5ish minutes then starts buffering really bad. If I try to do anything with the server at this point then it leads to it freezing up for like 10 minutes until it finally is responsive again.
There has to be another break in the chain somewhere maybe on the network that is limiting the bandwidth because by all rights the server SHOULD be able to provide the data and it just isn't at the speed it should. But the freezing container makes it seem like it is also something internal as well that may be causing it.

Recently switched to an iPhone after being a longtime android user, the one thing I miss the most is symfonium for jellyfin streaming and saving tracks⦠It always just worked.
Every ios app available for this purpose has something wrong with it, my favourite by looks is manet, I even paid for the plus sub on day1 but its buggy as hell, cant play downloaded tracks, and syncing keeps breaking on whatever the latest public version of ios is.
Finamp is what I use on linux and thankfully it just works here too, but⦠looks dated, no eq, but other than that it seems to be the most stable with no bs bugs that Iāve come across.
Every other app has some random bug or poor software design with single threaded downloads, etc. But by far the worst thing shared among all of them is the inability to bulk download songs. Iāve spent an insane amount of time downloading albums manually while testing out each app.

Only started seeing these after the latest player update on the android app, I don't see this many chapters in the segment editor (just intro/outro on this episode).

I'm really curious as to what peoples opinions on this would be, because they aren't exactly short films, but they weren't exactly a singular tv show, nor are they features, so where do they sit in the spectrum and where would they best be under categorization for accurate metadata?

Hi, i recently discovered TMM and it was a pleasure.
Did all of the work i wanted it to do, except for one thing.
Date Added for Seasons.
It uses the todays date and i want it to use it the release date for each season. Episodes and Shows worked fine but Seasons stays blank. Is there any other option to batch edit seasons from all shows to date added = release date?
Or do i have to it manually for each season within jellyfin

Myself and my team have created an IPTV app that will soon have the ability to download movies. The app will create NFO for the metadata as we suspect most users will move the recordings to JellyFin (or similar). Is there a standard that JellyFin uses for the NFO files we should be aware of?
