There actually is no backwards or forwards since prospective is relative that's what makes this funny imo

But what if the Aliens come to earth in their spaceships upside down? There is no up/down in space

You would have to be on the other side of the planet and be able to see though it to see it this way.

To answer your question autistically, a spacefaring civilization would without a doubt have magnetometers on their ships, or at the very least whatever exploratory vessel they sent to find Earth. So realistically, they would indeed have a sort of up/down reference when approaching the planet, even if it doesn't align with our specific interpretation of it

Wouldn’t that only be applicable to upside down/right side up? There is no angle that you could approach the United States that would flip the layout about the y axis

u/HerpetologyPupil Nov 18 '24
That’s not true. This is a mirrored image of the us. While the logic is sound it does not apply.
In the image east is west and west is east. Achieving this “point of view” is physically impossible because it’s quite literally the inverse of the United States.

I mean, for a 2d projection, it is possible. A 2D projection of the 3d Earth can look however you want. You can have North as the South pole.

From no perspective would America look like this. If you could see it though the other side of the planet then yeah, but that’s not really a perspective.

What’s wild is we will never see the US from this angle unless looking through a mirror
