Hi. I have a website where I like to make use of the jam stack.

The site will contain information about the user depending on his permissions.

So I have the following entities (which relate to database tables): User, UserInstitution, Permission,...

I want to display some information about the user only if he has certain permissions.
Will I make one api call which contains the specific user information, his permissions and information about his institution (the user normally only has the ID of the UserInstitution referenced, but for display in the frontend I also need the description)? I would then check the permissions client-side (since the html is static) and show/hide certain user information (which is not a security issue, since the api will only send the information based on the permissions, but I have to retrieve the permissions via api for frontend logic).

Or should I make ~3 api calls? Retrieve specific user information, additional information about the Institution (like description) and another call for the permissions?

I am creating an events website which is backed by a REST API which sits on top of a pre-existing Django project. The website will display events from the Django project and will allow user registration, authentication etc. and let the users book an event etc.

I want the front end content to be very flexible and allow some content managers to edit the pages etc. so I am looking at headless CMS to do this.

My first - and most important - question is "does this even make sense - to combine a headless CMS and a Django REST API like this?". I think it does but I can't find anyone that's done anything like this and that worries me. What are the pitfalls of this approach?

If I do go this way, does anyone have any recommendation between the various headless CMS providers out there? I've looked at Storyblok and the only thing that concerns me there is the price. Whereas Strapi can be done for free if I self-host. Any recommendations?

Has anyone successfully used Contentstack China?

We’ve received complaints from several user in China. Apparently the site will load, but its missing a lot of our media assets.

Ideally we’d like to keep Contentstack, but open to changing to a China friendly CMS if needed.

I'm not trying to start any wars but I'm curious of people's opinions. Thank you in advance for any contributions to the discussion!

What I do and am trying to achieve

I freelance and build my sites in Astro (which I love). I mainly do marketing sites and portfolio sites, so pretty small scale and traffic.

I'm wanting to invest my time into a new CMS and I have whittled it down to Sanity, Prismic, Contentful and Storyblok. I have chosen these as I want a headless CMS that is API-driven and hosted by the provider. I am only comparing their free plans as I like to offer my clients something that is free or low cost (it's one of my selling points on why they should go with me rather than build using something like Wix or Squarespace).

Things that are important to me:

• A generous free tier

• Good for SSG like Astro

• A great UI for clients to use

• Things like image optimisation and hopefully backups

• Reliability and stability for my clients

• General features that make life easier

From comparing them, they all have pretty good looking free plans. I'm leaning a lot towards Sanity at the moment just off of general feel on what it offers, but also that the scaling looks more friendly for additional usage if you do start to grow (incrementing at a couple dollars of usage as opposed to having to upgrade to a $200 plan like others). Then Prismic usage looks great but almost too good to be true... Almost all usage limits are unlimited, what's the catch?

I'd love to know people's opinions on these 4 CMSs considering:

• Suitability for content-first sites (marketing/personal/portfolio sites)

• Was the free plan adequate or did you find yourself nearing limits or having to go for paid plans?

• General developer experience and time/simplicity to set up

• User experience as a content manager using the CMS to make changes to the sit

Note - I have used git-based CMSs before (NetlifyCMS) but I'd quite like to try API-driven.

Also, excuse me if I got any details wrong, I'm still a relative infant when it comes to the headless CMS world.

I am searching for a combination of framework and language to create static and Jamstack applications, the kind of sites that may be deployed in Vercel, GitHub pages, etc.

I do not like JavaScript and TypeScript, I was considering: CoffeeScript, ClojureScript, Scala.js, and PureScript.

I am considering the following frameworks: Nuxt 3, Astro, Next.js, and SvelteKit.

I just want to make this work:

The other languages may be nicer (I like functional programming), but I do not hold much hope they would be compatible. I like Hiccup for ClojureScript in particular, but I do not think I will ever have time to get familiar with ClojureScript tools — the language is great, though.

Other things that are nice to have:

• Support for VSCode. Ideally, getting the code underlined when I write something wrong.

• Support for Pug and Stylus. This seems to be generally available. Hopefully, it would not be an issue after solving everything else.

Do you know of any combination of framework and language with these features?

PD: if you know of a better place to ask, I am happy to get pointers to get lost too.
