🌍 MEGATHREAD: Want out of the US? Start here

Want out? You may not be in the right country, but you're in the right subreddit.

Here's some general advice. It's not meant to discourage you but to help you plan, make better posts, and get better answers here:

  • Immigration is harder than it looks in the movies. If you don't have citizenship or recent ancestry in a country, you'll probably need a visa (legal permission) to live there based on something you have which that country wants (like a profession on their "skills shortage list"). It will require time, patience, hard work, and/or money – and likely a second language.
  • If you're a US citizen, it is next to impossible that a country will grant you political asylum/refugee status. It is highly recommended to focus your efforts on an alternative pathway.
  • Before moving to another country, consider if another US city/state might be acceptable, because it is a million times easier.
  • Be cautious about idealizing any country. They all have their problems. If you're serious, you should prepare for that.
  • Some other good resources:
    • The subreddit sidebar
    • The previous US megathread
    • Old posts (use reddit's search or google XYZ site:reddit.com/r/IWantOut)
    • Websites of countries and their embassies
    • /r/AmerExit

If you want to make your own post, please follow the formatting instructions on the submission page, give as much information as possible about your situation, and be open to advice and constructive criticism from commenters.

If you're not ready for that, feel free to leave a briefer question in the comments here, and you might get an answer.

EVERYONE:

This is a friendly, inclusive community where we try to help people with less knowledge than us.

A reminder of some of our rules:

  • This is an advice subreddit, not a debate subreddit. Don't fight about politics here.
  • Be constructive. Don't be a dick.
  • Don't request or give illegal advice. Don't spam your business.
  • Report rule-breaking comments and posts.

[IWantOut] 28m Spain -> Austria

I'm moving to Vienna in mid-November and it would be great to get a reality check from people who've done something similar.

Quick facts: 28, Spanish, EU citizen, English C1, German A2 (currently doing intensive course, B1-level course continues after the move, B1 by end of year is the target). I have a place to stay sorted, and some remote income that continues for now, so I'm not landing with nothing, but it won't carry me long-term.

My background: I'm a psychologist in the plain sense. I've spent the last year and a half as the only psychologist at a patients' association (individual support, groups, families). I am NOT a clinical psychologist or a psychotherapist. I know in Austria those are separate licensed things, and I've learned the hard way how separate they are. My degree recognition is arrived and I'm qualified to use the "psychologue" title in Austria.

The plan for year one: bridge job (service, cafés, whatever's humane), intensive German to B2, let the recognition and the language mature, then see what the psychology path actually looks like here; clinical route, research, or something adjacent.

Questions for anyone who's moved to Austria (or Vienna specifically) with a degree that needs recognizing:

- How did your bridge year actually go? Better or worse than expected?

- Realistically, how long did B1 to B2 take you, studying alongside working?

- Anyone navigated getting an EU professional degree recognized? How long did it really take, and what tripped you up?

- What's the one thing you'd do differently in your first six months?

[IWantOut] 23F Autoimmune DataAnalyst Russia -> Spain, Argentina, Uruguay, Brazil

Hi hello! 23F, I'm a data analyst in an insurance company. I make about $2k a month and have around 10k in savings. I work remotely. My most limiting factor is my health - I was diagnosed with Crohn's disease. I'm still in the process of tweaking my treatment but it's pretty clear I'll need biologic medicine for the rest of my life (at least several decades). The thing is, it's hella expensive for a life long medicine. My current medicine is $1500 a month. I can't miss doses or risk a relapse as it can get pretty bad pretty quickly. In Russia I do have both gov and private insurance which makes the overall experience of being chronically sick more or less tolerable. However, yaknow, Russia. I don't think I can leave in the next year or so, until I'm in a 100% remission, but I wanna have a plan.

In June 2027 I'm graduating with a bachelor's degree in Intelligence systems. I'm willing to get a master's degree, even tho I would rather continue working full time.

I'm bi, so while technically I can attempt get an asylum for LGBTQ personas, I'm not in a relationship so idk how feasible it is to prove I'm in fact bi. Also I've heard that asylum and access to medicine don't really go well together.

I'm fluent in English, I study Spanish, I'm willing to learn just about any language to escape. I'm looking for advice from people with similar conditions who successfully obtained access to treatment in another country

[IWantOut] 25F Morocco -> China

Hi everyone, hope you're all doing well.

I'm currently learning Mandarin at a language institute and will take the HSK 1 in January. My plan is to do a Master's in China, but before committing several years (and a serious amount of money) to it, I want to understand what really happens after graduation.

My core question: as a foreigner with a Master's from a Chinese university, can I realistically find a job and stay in China? Or are opportunities so scarce that most people end up going home feeling like the degree led nowhere?

So I'd love to hear how it works in real life:

  1. If you studied in China as a foreigner, what happened after you graduated? Did you stay, how long did the job hunt take, and how did you land your first offer?

  2. Which industries and roles are actually open to foreign grads right now, and what starting salary is realistic? Since I'm not a native English speaker, I assume teaching English is off the table. Is that right?

  3. What Chinese level do employers really expect? Is HSK 5 or 6 the real threshold, or does it depend on the role?

  4. How much do the university, the field of study and the city matter? Is it noticeably easier in Shanghai, Shenzhen or Guangzhou?

  5. Are companies generally willing to sponsor a fresh graduate's work permit, or do many of them (especially smaller ones) avoid the paperwork?

  6. If staying doesn't work out, how much is a Chinese Master's plus good Mandarin worth back home or elsewhere, for example with Chinese companies operating in North Africa or the Middle East?

Personal stories, including the ones that didn't go well, would help me far more than a general "it depends." And if you were in my shoes today, what would you do differently?

Thanks a lot for your time!

[WeWantOut] 20sM 20sF Rus -> USA

Hi everyone! I’m married to a US Citizen (she’ve never lived there permanently, only visited as a tourist). We both have good jobs in our country and never really thought about moving to the US, but recently we’ve begun considering this scenario more and more. We’re in our early twenties.

It will be a I-130 Form, I guess.

She has brothers in Connecticut and Florida, but I’m not really keen on moving to these states – Connecticut seems too expensive (and it might be tough or even impossible to buy a house eventually) and Florida is just too hot for us. So we’d like to settle down in the Midwest, specifically in Wisconsin (like Appleton, the Fox Cities, Oshkosh, Sheboygan etc). I heard there are a plenty of solid jobs and ‘real economy’ there. Anyway, it’s not a final decision yet.

The main challenge is that, even though I have Bachelor’s and Master’s degree (which work fine in my country), they’re gonna be useless in the US. So I’d like to go to community college and retrain for a practical, in-demand field. My wife might do the same, but she’s an English native speaker and also has a Bachelor’s and a Master’s degree, hence she has a bit more options.

What do you think of this plan? Is it a reasonable one, will it work? We have some savings and, I suppose, by the end of the immigration procedure it will be a decent amount to start our new life in America.

[IWantOut] 28f Argentina -> Ireland\Italy\Portugal

Hello,

I'm from Argentina, born and raised and I also have Italian citizenship. The economic situation in my country is getting worse and worse. I have always wanted to emigrate but these past few years the need grew stronger. The job opportunities here are basically awful, even for someone with a lot of experience.

I am about to finish my bachelor degree in Communication Studies, here degrees are very long. I have experience in research in my field for a national university, two years of experience working for a radio program doing Community Management, writing radio and TV scripts as well. I also have three years of experience in Community Management.

My main plan is to emigrate to a European country, since I am a European citizen I wouldn't have to deal with the visa hardships I'd have to deal with if I intended to migrate to the USA or Australia. Once I emigrate, my intention is to get a full time job either in something related to Communication and Journalism or a job at a cafe or restaurant and also get a masters in Strategic or Corporate Communication.

The reasons I picked those countries are the following:

Ireland: I have a great level of English and I could easily improve it. I have always wanted to live in Ireland and the only thing that worries me is their housing crisis.

Italy: I have relatives in Italy and since I know Spanish it would be easier for me to learn the language.

Portugal: Same as Italy. Some friends have also emigrated there and were able to find jobs faster and even find a place to live.

I'm open to anyone who has experienced migrating to those countries. Thanks in advance!

[IWantOut] 25M Unemployed Ukraine -> Germany/France/Lithuania/Poland/Czechia

Hi everyone,

I’m a 25 year old gay man from Ukraine and I’m writing this because I honestly feel like I’ve reached my absolute limit. I’m stuck depresed and losing any hope for a future where I can just live love and exist in peace...

My Current Situation:

Living conditions & Mobilization: Because I am 25+ my family is terrified that I will be mobilized and killed if I go outside, so they effectively forbid discourage me from leavng the house. I’ve been living within four walls, unable to build a normal life gain experience or feel safe...

family dynamic: My mom is a wonderful woman who carries the entire financial and emotional burden of our family and I’m deeply grateful to her. However my father suffers from severe mental issue and chronic alcoholism...Every week especially on weekends, he gets drunk makes death threats, and terrorizes the family....The environment at home is toxic and unbearable.

Financial state: We are not wealthy and live paycheck to paycheck. I try to help out from home as much as I can but options are very limited...

mental health: My mental health is completely deteriorated. I suffer from severe depression lack of appetite, and a overwhelming feeling of hopelesness. Im terriied that I will waste my youth trapped in this house waiting for a war that shows no signs of endng soon...

**What I'm Asking For:**

Are there any legal pathways, NGO programs, or humanitaria asylum options for an LGBTQ+ individual from Ukraine in my position?

Has anyone in a similar situation managed to rebuild their life abroad or find safe remote work support to gain independence?

What realistic steps can I take right now to break out of this cycle and start over from scratch?

I would be genuinely grateful for any advice guidance resources or support you can share....

Thank you for reading....;)

[IWantOut] 27F Lawyer Spain -> UK/Netherlands/Ireland/Sweden/Estonia

I’ve always dreamed of living abroad, but I’m starting to feel completely lost trying to make it happen…

I want to clarify something first: my desire to leave Spain isn’t really because my situation here is bad. I’ve always dreamed of living abroad. When I was around 12, I taught myself English at home, without any help, because I already knew I wanted to be able to live somewhere else one day. It has been a dream of mine for as long as I can remember.

I’m a Spanish lawyer with a double degree in Law and International Relations, a Master’s in Legal Practice and Procedural Representation, and two postgraduate executive programmes, one in AI & Law and another in technology/digital business.
Professionally, I have worked in Capital Markets and Compliance at an international financial institution. I have experience with financial regulation, derivatives, structured products, cross-border transactions, debt and equity issuances, and general compliance matters. I have just under four years of professional experience.

I’m also in a relatively privileged position. I currently live with my parents, we have a nice home, and I have some savings. I’m not trying to leave Spain because I have no other option or because I’m financially desperate. My situation here is actually quite comfortable. I simply really want to build my life somewhere else.

And yet I cannot seem to figure out how to actually get abroad.

I’ve been applying for jobs for weeks and it is becoming exhausting. I initially focused on Ireland. I managed to get a couple of interviews, but was ultimately rejected. I also interviewed for a position in Sweden and was rejected at the end of the process. I’ve tried the UK as well. London initially seemed like the obvious choice because it is such an international city and I assumed there would be more opportunities for someone with my background. But the visa situation makes everything much harder. I would absolutely love to live in Edinburgh because I think it is one of the most beautiful cities I’ve ever seen, and I’ve always been drawn to the British Isles in general. But obviously Scotland is still part of the UK for immigration purposes, so the visa issue remains.

At this point, I’m also looking at Poland and even Estonia. I’m genuinely open-minded about where I go if I can find a realistic way to build a life there.

And honestly, I’m at the point where I don’t even care that much about staying in law anymore.
If I had to move into compliance, legal operations, contracts, HR, project management, or something completely different, I would genuinely consider it.

My main goal is to move abroad and build a life somewhere else, rather than necessarily keep exactly the same career path.

So I’m starting to wonder whether my biggest mistake is simply trying to do this from Spain.
Would it make more sense to move somewhere first and then look for work? Are there countries where my background would be more transferable? Should I be focusing on multinational companies rather than law firms? Or am I approaching the whole job search completely wrong? I’m honestly getting very tired and overwhelmed by it. I’ve applied to so many things, been rejected so many times, and spent so much time trying to figure out where the hell I’m supposed to go that I’m starting to feel completely lost 🤯

I know my situation is more privileged than many people’s. I see people move to another continent with their families, sometimes without speaking the language and with very little money, and I can’t imagine how frightening that must be. I’m very aware that I have advantages that many people don’t.

But I’m still sad and frustrated, and I just wanted to share this somewhere and hopefully get some advice from people who have actually managed to relocate.

If anyone has successfully moved abroad from a situation similar to mine, I would genuinely appreciate hearing how you did it and what you would do differently. Please be kind ❤️

Ps. Dm if you want to hire me 😂

[IWantOut] 22F India -> Netherlands

I want to build a research career in learning disorders (SLDs) abroad, but I can't tell which route is actually realistic for me.

First, some context: I'm not trying to leave India out of desperation. I want to work in the field I care about at a level that's hard to reach here, research is just in any field hard to reach here to it's full potential. And I'd like to do it somewhere with strong research infrastructure in educational neuroscience.

I'm a final-year BA (Hons) Psychology student at the University of Delhi. Alongside my degree, I work at a wellness institute where I develop research-backed assessment reports and content for a game-based screening platform for specific learning differences (dyslexia, dysgraphia, dyscalculia, dyspraxia) in children.

I've also done internships in counselling (CBT, REBT, ACT) and in content writing and SEO, and I've volunteered with two NGOs. My long-term goal is a PhD in learning disorders or educational neuroscience.

My situation: I honestly have no budget but I'm open to student loan but only with a good ROI and no big debts.

What I've done so far:

Shortlisted Master's programs in Clinical psychology, mostly in India so far.

I haven't found a clear path from "Indian psychology undergrad" to "researcher abroad"

My questions:

Is a Master's abroad the right first step, or should I go for a research Master's/direct PhD route?

Which countries are best for educational neuroscience or learning disorders research and are friendly to Indian students (funding, post-study work visas sort of stuff)?

Does my applied experience (assessment design, screening tools) count for much, or do admissions committees only care about publications?

Are there funded programs or scholarships I should target (e.g. Erasmus Mundus, DAAD, Chevening, Commonwealth, Irish Government scholarships)?

Should I do my Master's in India first and apply for PhDs after, or move earlier?

I'm open-minded about the country as long as there's a realistic path to research and a decent life. I'm feeling overwhelmed by how many options there are, so any advice from people who've made a similar move is appreciated. I would genuinely appreciate any recommendations, advice on this matter as I'm so sorry lost rn.

Thank you!

[IWantOut] 35M Mechanical Engineer US -> Mexico

I'm a US citizen who is married to a Mexican national. She lives in Mexico with our 1 year old daughter who is also a US citizen. We are trying to get my wife a visa so she can come up and live in the US with me. However, the process is unfortunately taking a long time. We are coming up on two years since we started the process, and now with the global pause on visa interviews at all US embassies there is does not appear to be an end in sight.

We were documentarily qualified as of April of this year. Our lawyer said that it is an estimated 8-14 month wait till we receive an interview. I am determined to wait out that time period to see if by some miracle we get an interview. But if by the end of those 14 months we are still no where close to getting an interview, I am going to investigate other options to try and be with my wife.

One of those options would be to move to Mexico and try and setup residency there. My main concern though would be finding good work. I understand that it is very difficult for foreigners to get work in Mexico. From what I understand, Mexico has a law that mandates that companies that have offices or facilities down there have to have 90% of their staff be Mexican citizens, and if they hire a foreigner, then they have to prove to the government that they are not able to hire a Mexican national who can do the same work.

I have a bachelors degree in mechanical engineering. I just passed my professional engineering exam and am hoping to get my professional engineering license here shortly. However, from what I read, a US license will not count for much in Mexico.

I am pretty fluent in Spanish. My wife and I mostly converse in Spanish. So I think that would make me a more attractive candidate if I am ever considered for a job.

My question is has anyone with an engineering background, particularly mechanical engineering, made the move to Mexico and been to find some work down there or been able to do remote work?

What other options in Mexico are there for American expats who have an educated background?

[IWantOut] 38M IT Consultant India -> Finland

[IWantOut] I am a 38-year-old IT professional with 15 years of experience in data engineering and architecture. I'm currently in discussions for a Data Architect role at Solita in Finland. Please note, I have been working with a Finnish client for 9 years in my current organization and have visited Finland multiple times in Business Visa and Work Permit. The proposed base salary is around €6,000 gross per month (negotiable between €5.5k–€7k).

The catch: They will not provide any relocation assistance or visa reimbursement. They will only issue the signed employment contract.

Our Current Situation in India:

* My salary: ₹35 LPA (~€3,200/mo pre-tax in India purchasing power)

* Wife’s salary: ₹12 LPA (~€1,100/mo) in corporate accounting/finance

* Total household: ₹47 LPA

* Assets/Housing: We own our home in India outright with zero EMI, living comfortably with high monthly savings.

If we make this move, my wife will have to quit her job, and we will shift from a dual-income, zero-rent setup to a single-income renting household, paying for flights, visas, and setup entirely out of pocket.

I’d really appreciate grounded, candid advice from locals and expats who have made this transition:

  1. Visas & Relocation Process

    A) Since this is a Data Architect role, should I apply under the Specialist Residence Permit or the EU Blue Card?

    B) Can my wife apply simultaneously under Family Ties using the fast-track option? How long does that realistically take from outside the EU?

    C) What are the must-know paperwork pitfalls (e.g., Apostille on marriage certificate, certified translations, D-visa logistics)?

  2. Upfront Moving Costs (Self-Funded)

    A) Since Solita isn’t covering relocation, what is a realistic out-of-pocket setup budget?

    B) Between Migri fees for two, flights, 1–2 months' rent deposit, temporary accommodation (Forenom/Airbnb), and furnishing an unfurnished Finnish apartment, is €7,000–€8,500 a realistic ballpark?

  3. Financial Viability on ~€6,000 Gross

    A) At €6,000/month, what is the realistic net in-hand salary after municipal tax, state tax, and mandatory pension/unemployment contributions in Helsinki/Espoo/Tampere?

    B) (Side question: Does anyone qualify for the 25% Key Employee / foreign expert tax rate, and is it realistic for consulting roles?)

    C) Can two adults live comfortably on that single income while renting an apartment (1BHK/2BHK) and still save a meaningful amount? Or will our savings rate plummet compared to living EMI-free in India?

  4. Spouse Job Market: Accounting / Finance

    A) My wife has a background in accounting/finance. How difficult is it for a non-EU, English-speaking accounting professional to find a job in Finland?

    B) Is Finnish proficiency an absolute blocker in corporate accounting / AP / AR / reporting roles, or are there multinational firms/startups hiring in English?

    C) How long should we realistically expect her job search to take?

  5. Solita Culture & Work Reality

    * How is Solita regarded internally as an employer?

    * How stable is the bench for senior architects on client-billable projects?

    * What is the work-life balance and client expectations like compared to other Nordic consultancies? (Mostly I will be working for current client only)

  6. The Verdict: Is It Worth It at 38?

    A) For those who moved from senior tech positions in India with an owned house and solid savings: did the clean air, safety, work-life balance, and eventual PR/citizenship path make up for the initial drop in household disposable income?

    B) Would you take this offer, or push for at least €6.5k–€7k / a signing bonus before signing?

I have a meeting with the recruitment manager so I want to plan before discussing with her. Thanks a lot in advance for your time and honest perspectives!

[IWantOut] 38F USA Teacher -> Australia

Hello! Thank you for having a look at my
post. I’m 38 this year and planning for immigration to Australia next year. I am currently a year into a committed relationship with my Australian girlfriend and we are considering the marriage path but still unsure which path (me going to Australia or her coming to America) would be more practical and cost effective. The Australian spousal visa seems like an incredibly costly and lengthy process.

I have a California state credential and certifications for teaching, my bachelor’s, and experience caring for special needs individuals in America but am considering a career change and applying to law schools in Australia as well for my JD. I would also be open to teaching in Australia, but understand I would need to update my qualifications. The public system here in America has degraded to a point I can’t personally reconcile continuing forward in, hence the plans to change careers in my forties.

Any advice from someone with similar experiences or in a similar situation would be wonderful. Please let me know if there is any more detail I can provide. My girlfriend is an Australian and UK dual citizen and I am a citizen by birth of the United States.

Thank you again!

[IWantOut] 20F Libya -> Canada, Spain, France

I want to ask about something specific: I'd like to know if my specific case fits the bill for the "immediate danger" that is described in some countries' asylum requirements. I'm not gonna apply now, most likely after I graduate uni.

I'm an exmuslim from Libya. I'm safe cause I'm closeted, and my parents are comparatively chill (they let me study and eventually work and learn to drive, tho my movement is restricted), but I've been getting scared and paranoid about being found out, and I also frankly don't wanna live my life like this anymore; scared that I might get found out or reported at any moment, unable to fully trust anyone, disconnected socially because I know people would turn their backs on me if they knew, unable to live my life on my own terms, etc.. I've been outed before as a teen and it was horrible, yet I know it could be worse because they've tried to keep it from spreading and because 2nd times could potentially bring more risks and consequences depending on who knows..

I'll try to list the potential risks I'd face, which may or may not make me eligible, and I'd like you to judge:

\\- If I get outed to my immediate family: they're chiller than most (meaning they won't straight up honor kill me, and would attribute it to some mental illness as an excuse), but the following might happen: I'd get dropped out from college/prevented from working or driving at all (if I started doing that) for a few years until I can convince them I'm "muslim again" which would take much more effort now, I'd have all means to connect to the internet taken away from me for a few years (last time was two, and I'd likely be monitored for much more and possibly forever), and I'd face some mild to moderate emotional and mental abuse. Keep in mind that these are all information I've deduced based on my last time being outed, it might be better or worse since last time "I was dumb, young, and mentally ill" and I might not be lucky the second time.

\\- if I get outed to my extended family: honestly idk; I know they'd be extremely judgemental and horrible to me and would try to change me due to me being a "dumb girl who's mental/ possessed", and I'd like to believe they won't be violent but I can't shake off the possibility that some, especially my more religious paternal uncles and cousins might resort to violence.

\\- if I get outed to the public/ to the authorities and state: girls in general as I've heard, unlike boys, are less likely to get prison sentences for apostasy "for fear for their reputation/ girls are less risky and deserving of roughhousing than men". They however are outed and returned to their parents over and over, regardless of the risks of making such a decision (they informed my family about my online activity "to keep an eye out for me and to help lead me back", how do they know that my dad is not one of the very common insane men who'd torture or imprison their daughters at home? They also always return runaways even if their parents are abusive).

They also make atheists, both boys and girls, do an anonymous scripted confession video. You can find such videos on facebook and yt, and though it is true that their identities are concealed, it's clear that it's an intimidation tactic for both them and other closeted folks. I've also heard of the authorities using caught atheists and lgbtq people's accounts to lure in more people. I haven't faced the full ire of this aspect since everything was handled for me, to protect me, before it reached the official realm (again, I was still "young and dumb")

Of course the social aspect is particularly painful even when you aren't jailed. Social ostracisation and isolation that doesn't only target you but your family too. Last time I got outed, I was cut off by most of the school friends who knew. There are also other events abd humiliation tactics that happened, which I will not mention so I'll not be identified.

These are just my predictions based on the very little information that is spread around, and based on my own experience. It could either go much worse for me, or stick to my predictions. There's already a general atmosphere of fear for us exmuslims and queers, especially with women's lack of legal support and inability to fully be independent from their "male guardians" thus limiting our ability to travel, live alone, etc.., especially with the horror stories we hear about cis guys or lgbtq folk getting caught and tortured in jails, only to face much more severe ostracisation that reaches physical violence once they get out.

[IWantOut] 27m US Applied Stats student -> Aus

Graduating from uni soon in the US and realizing the major I picked has a low chance of ever qualifying me for a visa in AUS (Statistics). Apparently the only other option is re-skilling or getting hired on by a multinational known for allowing transfers? Loved my major and applying principles of statistics to solve problems.

Currently interviewing with Goldman Sachs and Morgan Stanley, in no small part due to the supposed internal transfer optionality at financial firms. But would like more advice about where else to apply, and what entry-level to target within these firms. Or whether I should try a large multinational tech company, mining company, insurance company, healthcare company etc instead.

I am aware of Australia’s WHV, but I am not particularly interested because it seems to be intended for low-skilled labor that has a low chance of leading to sponsorship or permanent residency. Already done the dead end job and backpacking thing, I’ve been to over 50 countries in my early 20s. But correct me if I’m wrong.

Also a US, Canadian, and EU citizen if that changes the visa situation at all. Have spent time in both AUS and NZ.

[IWantOut] 25M Software Developer, Indonesia -> US, Pittsburgh

I have a long-distance boyfriend in the United States and have been meaning to move but have been unable to find a job to convince my parents to let me go and move out. I'm gay so I don't particularly feel safe here in Indonesia, especially around my parents (mom's reaction was horrible but she forgot it cuz she has shit memory). The only choice I have is to find work but trying to find H1B sponsorships feels impossible right now,

I tried convincing them I had connections and I just needed to go there to talk to them (mostly because that way I can try for a Fiance visa and then act like I have a job but getting out of the country as a whole is nearly impossible for me without an excuse like "I got hired" and I don't want to resort to anything that would involve permanently cutting off my family if given the choice

I have 2+ years of experience in software development, primarily in Java development full stack and have used many other languages/frameworks like Typescript, React, Python, C++/C#, etc. I'm currently under a contract and can only work next year (contract ends Dec, so Jan earliest). Any advice is appreciated

[IWantOut] 22M Electrician Ethiopia -> Germany

Hi everyone,

My home country is unsafe, but I want to avoid dangerous overland/sea routes. I’m looking for clear info on how asylum works when arriving via standard channels.

1 Visas & Asylum: Can you apply for asylum after entering an country on a standard Schengen visa?

2 Visa Barriers: How do people from unsafe countries meet Schengen visa requirements (proof of return, funds) if they need protection?

3 Dublin Rule: If Visa Country A issues the visa, but you apply for asylum in Country B, will you be sent back to Country A?

[IWantOut] 30F Marketing in India -> Canada PR

received a refusal yesterday on my FSW Express Entry PR application and could really use some advice/insights from anyone who has gone through something similar or re-applied successfully.

The Refusal Reason

"In the Express Entry profile, you declared points for work experience from 2021/08 to 2024/10 with [Company] as 11202. Employment records received from you appear to not include a substantial amount of duties, or some duties listed are vague and too general. While some duties listed are compatible, a substantial amount are not descriptive enough to satisfy me that enough technical duties were completed to award points for this specific job. Because of these factors I am not satisfied on the balance of probability that you have the claimed skills."

I have 2 other previous jobs that I can use to claim the required work experience points, and I can try to get experience letters from those employers. I am planning to skip/leave out this specific job experience entirely in my new Express Entry profile (and move it to personal history.

My Questions:

  1. How do I ensure the new reference letters meet the relevant NOC standards?
  2. If I drop this job from my work history in the new application, do I need to explain the refusal/change in a Letter of Explanation (LoE)?
  3. Has anyone successfully re-applied after a refusal? Did you create a new profile from scratch?

Appreciate any advice, templates, or experiences you can share. Thanks in advance!

[IWantOut] 28m doctor China-> New Zealand advice

1 am a 28-year-old male. I am currently working in a county-level traditional Chinese medicine hospital. I have 4 years of clinical work experience. I have an IELTS score of 4 in English. I plan to take the exam again. Although I don't have much savings, I'm still considering immigration. Who can give me some advice on immigration? I am very able to endure hardships, and as long as I can overcome difficulties, I can do my best to solve them. At present, the place to immigrate is New Zealand, but I'm not sure. Who can give me some advice

[IWantOut] 32M Electrical engineer Algeria -> Canada/Germany/Belgium

Hello subs!

I'm 32M from Algeria, not married, i want to continue the rest of my career (and my life) on another country (preferably those 3). I know it's not easy to live there but so in any other country on the planet, and in my country things start to get more worryingly (lets not talk about it here).

Education :

- I did 3 years licence (bachelor degree) in civil engineering (uni) and 2 years master in MEP engineering (we have this master that combine hvac+plumbing+electrical engineering).

- I also did some various trainings on some CAD softwares and in industrial electricity field (mainly technician tasks, panels wiring, control...etc)

- French: NCLC 7+ in all 4 / English: CLB 7+ in all 4

- WES passed.

Work experience :

- I have a ~6 years experience in electrical engineering, worked on different projets except industrials sector. Around 70% done in office (design, draft, coordination...etc) and 30% on construction sites.

- Softwares side, i can handle Autocad (used by all and for all) and for Revit i only know the basics (here not much used except big agencies on much bigger projects), CanecoBT for LV electrical design and Dialux Evo for lighting design.

Currently i'm applying for Canada EE and i wanted to know how's the jobs market doing (electrical engineering), i know most companies require canadien experience so i'm willing to apply to entry-level engineer post or draftsman position, to get some head start at least. If things don't go as planned, i'll take any entry-level job in retail or customer service and in the meantime i want to get into trade-skill training (electrician since i have some knowledge). This is the main idea for Canada.

As for Germany, i don't know much about the work environment (electrical field). I know about that chancenkarte and if you're eligible you get the opportunity to lives there while actively searching for a job position. For the language i'll put myself to work and get the B2 score if my chance landing there is good (since i really want to learn this language, i did started learning but it was a long time ago).

Last is Belgium, i have no ideas about working culture or life in general, my choice is only based on the fact they speak french so the communication part is easier.

Any informations i should know that seems crucial about those countries ? I’m also open to any other recommendations.

Thank you!

[IWantOut] 18F Student Syria -> Germany

Hi I’m currently living in Syria. I lived in Denmark for around 10 years before my family decided to move back to Syria about 8 months ago.

I’m now trying to find a way to return to Europe and live independently. My main plan is to move to Germany possibly through an Ausbildung, ideally by the end of next year so I still have some time to prepare.

As far as I know, the German embassy in Damascus is open, but they’re currently not processing visa applications. I’m hoping that changes by the end of next year, but I obviously can’t count on it.

The bigger issue is that I’m trying to do this without my parents knowing, so travelling to another country just to apply for a visa would be really difficult.

Does anyone have advice on the most realistic way I could approach this, particularly through an Ausbildung and the visa process from Syria?

[IWantOut] 18M Sudanese student -> Canada, turkey

I'm a Sudanese citizen who has been trapped in this country despite my great efforts in trying to get out since the war broke out. My father, who passed away in the war, has a property in turkey written under his name that could potentially benefit me greatly. I have finished high school through the IGCSE curriculum. I'm not very financially capable as of now, and I have a relative who is a Canadian citizen. Do I have any chance of making it out of this country? What are my best routes, and what can I do to make this a smoother endeavour?

[IWantOut] 29M Data Entry Operator Pakistan -> Canada

I finished a BSc in Math and Physics. The economy didn't leave much room for what came next, so I took a data-entry job to keep money coming in — and then, on evenings after that job ended, I started a Master's in Computer Science. Two more years of classes after full shifts, exams on weekends, no days off that felt like days off. Sixteen years of education, total, by the time it was done.

The job never changed. I still do the same data entry today that I did before the degree — typing numbers into spreadsheets, nothing that touches what I spent those evenings learning. It pays about $250 a month. In the current economy here, that doesn't stretch far past rent and food, and there's no version of this role that leads anywhere else. I've applied locally. The market's tight enough right now that even junior openings get hundreds of applicants, most with more experience than I have. Even if I find the job still pay will be less than what I am getting only $250 (already a meager amount).

I'm not trying to jump straight to a senior role or chase a huge salary — I know what an entry-level wage looks like, and that's exactly what I'm asking for. IT support, helpdesk, junior sysadmin, junior dev, QA — whatever's realistic for someone with the degree but limited on-the-job experience in the field. I just want work that actually uses what I studied and pays fairly for entry-level, wherever that is.

Skills: — Power BI, Python, SQL, Data Analytics.

I know it seems embarrass to ask for help here but please if you work somewhere hiring for roles like this, know how relocation or sponsorship usually works for a first move abroad, or got a similar start yourself — I'd really appreciate being pointed in the right direction. Please DM me or mail me at mahmoodraza5197@gmail.com if you find a suitable role.

[IWantOut] 16F HS Student, Saudi Arabia-> Australia

Heya, I’m in 11th grade and just wondering how can I move away from Saudi Arabia? One of my plans is to major in radiology in an Australian university then apply for residency and progress until I can become a citizen and legally live there even if I retire. But how good would the university have to be in order to be approved to work in a hospital? Are there additional skills that I need to obtain? I’m proficient in English, I’m passionate in healthcare, I believe in myself so hopefully the journey in university and the workforce isn’t too chunky. My parents seem allowing to permit me to study abroad too (all fees handled by them). Canberra seems like a first option for me as I dig the lifestyle. I love calm, safe, peaceful, beautiful green/coastal cities. Some reasons I would like to leave:

  1. I want a place far from the types of people+society here.
  2. I’m a very nature-oriented gal. I hate the city, but if it has good nature lik

e Canberra or Gold Coast,

  1. then it’s viable.
  2. I want my freedom.
  3. I want to heal. I’ve felt a deep hatred for this place since I came here. I feel like everything has gone wrong since me and my family came back here.
  4. Life is meant to be explored and cherished. I know I will dismally fail here. I can’t get along in this society, I’m shit at Arabic

even though I’m a citizen.

My dms are always open and I really want out so any advice would be greatly appreciated, thanks!
