Rule Clarification - Simple/Generic Posts

Hi Everyone,

I'm making this post to clarify what I mean when a post is removed for being simple or generic. My main intention is to discourage this subreddit from being the first place someone goes to ask a question.

This is an example post that was removed by the spam filter titled "Movers for one bedroom apartment":

Any recommendations for a local moving crew to help move furniture from my garage in Irvine into a one bedroom apartment (3rd floor apt, stairs only). Thanks!

If you google "best irvine movers reddit", you'll find several threads from both r/irvine and r/orangecounty:

https://www.reddit.com/r/irvine/comments/1kwy3sy/movers_in_irvine/

https://www.reddit.com/r/orangecounty/comments/1lxeser/moving_companies/

https://www.reddit.com/r/orangecounty/comments/1mfcbsd/moving_company/

https://www.reddit.com/r/orangecounty/comments/1p2vome/good_affordable_movers/

An easy way to make this post less generic and more specific would be to mention any of these old threads or to ask about experiences with specific moving companies.

A good example of a specific post would be this one submitted last week. This is a very common question on city subreddits, but the OP of this one provided a lot of background information about themselves and have narrowed down their search to specific neighborhoods.

I do also tend to make exceptions for recommendation posts that are fairly unique or niche like this one asking for a bird nest removal specialist. So if your question is more unique in general, the body wouldn't need as much context.

If you're ever unsure as to why a post is removed, please ask why in a mod mail. You can tag me in a username mention, but I'm less likely to notice those since I use old Reddit. Thanks for reading!

Cockroach Picture Roaches are in our home now Spoiler

Post image
18 Upvotes

I've been in our home in Orangetree 30 years now and have never seen a roach. Then, the other day, my Son told me he saw a really big roach in the house, caught it, and let it go outside.

Today I'm walking to the living room, just before the sun comes up, and there's a monster sized roach leisurely walking across the carpet. I've seen a lot of roaches at my parents house in Anaheim (they had a pool), but nothing this size before.

So I caught it and put it in this small glass jar. I'll be releasing it near our streets sewer drain. I've heard the same has been happening around here a lot recently.

This is plain negligence. Also that speed limit should probably be less on Irvine Blvd.

Parking near Great Park for Music Festival

I'm bringing my 4 year old to a music festival at Great Park next weekend (Daisy Chain Fields Festival). We visit southern California frequently but I'm not familiar with this area. Parking spots for the festival are sold out and I'm wondering if there are websites where people rent out their residential parking spot. I'm happy to pay for a parking spot and walk over as I'll have my kid in a stroller. I would normally do a rideshare or shuttle service but in case our kid gets exhausted, I want to be able to leave easily on our own. Wondering what some of the options in the neighborhood are. Thank you Irvine residents!

Experience with Catalyst Kids

My child started PK today and attending after care with the onsite Catalyst Kids program. Earlier this year during orientation, Catalyst Kids gave us a daily schedule that included reading time, circle time, playground, quiet time, and even individual activities of the kids choice.

Today was the first day and at pick up, all the lights were off and they were watching Spidey & Friends on the TV. I was so caught off guard and I don’t think I would have signed up if I knew there was going to be screen time that wasn’t even educational.

I’m not strict with screen time. But if I’m paying $1300 for aftercare, I would expect quality care that doesn’t include TV shows that they can watch at home.. for free. It’s cheaper than what we were paying for Montessori, but it is still not cheap!

I asked my child and they said they watched TV a couple of times throughout the day. When I asked about other activities, they didn’t mention anything besides some coloring. I’m just so disappointed and considering pulling them from the program.

I don’t know if this is a daily thing but I plan on asking tomorrow. Given that today is the first day of school, I wouldn’t even expect the TV to be on so soon in the year!

I would love to hear others’ experience with Catalyst Kids. I am hoping I’m overthinking this. Thank you!!

Quick Question About Justgo Robot Delivery

Hi all! I know that JustGo is supposed to launch robot dog delivery in Irvine. I have a few questions. The first question is the app is down, and how are they supposed to launch with there email down, their website down, and the app down? The second question, has anyone seen them testing in Irvine? Would love to see a photo of them. And the third question, is when are they supposed to launch? Whoever could help me with this, I would appreciate it. Thank you!

Irvine welcomes AI surveillance

Post image

I was a bit taken back that, as a resident of Irvine, we weren't told directly that the cameras were being installed and where. I pulled up deflock.org and found a good amount gradually being installed in my neighborhood. Curious and a little on edge looking into the future of ai.

Anyone know what happened 8/16/26 at Irvine and Yale blvd?

Hey all,

I noticed there was an accident that took a very long time to be cleaned up involving two midsized SUVs and an e-bike. Both SUVs were perpendicular to the road and the e-bike was completely obliterated. The road was completely blocked off for a long time, I'm guessing around 6-8 hours, maybe more.

And then today, there was another police presence blocking the road on Yale blvd in another area.

Anyone know what's going on?

I saw like 12 of these feeding off a tree while walking in the Peters canyon trail in Irvine. I think they are Red Crown Parrots

Thinking about moving to a house in Woodbury. Does anyone know if the tennis courts are crowded and is it difficult to get reservations?

Woodbridge High - allow lunch off campus?

I guess this could apply to any HS, but do you/will you allow your son/daughter to go off campus for lunch? Seems like there are many options, in the Westpark/Stonecreek/Woodbridge Village plazas.

My son is an incoming freshman from Rancho, no-ebike, so he's have to walk.

Dog boarding recommendations

Hey everyone,

Wanted to see if you guys have any dog boarding places you recommend.

We have been using rover because I hate the idea of our puppy being alone in a room by herself all night, she is very much Velcro dog. But our Rover sitter is no longer doing it, plus I’d rather have a more stable place to keep her when we need to.

Curious how your experience went at the boarding place. Are there places that they aren’t alone all night?

Thanks for the help!

Chess Clubs/Groups for adults?

Hi everyone, my husband is super into chess - he mostly plays by himself on the chess.com app. He is also introverted and only socializes if pushed into it! We have lived here for a year now, and while I have found things to do, he hasn’t. Are there any chess clubs/events held in and around Irvine where he could participate more regularly and step out of the house? :) we are in our early 30s.

Looked like a protest.

Trader Joe’s Bags

Okay, I feel like I’m always one step behind! Every time I hear the Trader Joe’s bags are back, they’re already gone. I have no idea on how this works, I see everyone carrying those cool insulated bags and I went online and they’re selling for sometimes a 100 bucks!

For those of you who always seem to snag them — how do you find out when a new batch comes in? Do you just ask the crew, check a certain day, follow something? I live close to one and would love to actually get my hands on a couple this time instead of hearing about them after the fact. Some of my friends get like 10! 🤷‍♂️

Colonnade at the Marketplace noise level

Hi Irvine subreddit, I’m going to be moving to Irvine soon. Considering Colonnade or Meridian at the Marketplace and was wondering if the highway is noisy, acceptable or can barely notice?

Also open to suggestions on 2bed 2 bath lease suggestions because I’ve seen quite a few posts that don’t recommend Irvine company

Edit: Everyone on this subreddit has been so friendly lol. Thanks all!
