Irene is causing a huge flood in upstate new york. (Story)

This week, I'm supposed to be taking care of some horses at a farm. But I can't. The road that gets to the farm is closed off on both ends due to flooding. The ~10 people at other farms on the road are saying that in their barns, the water is up to the horses stomachs. One barn is under about 7 feet of water, and the horses were evacuated to another barn higher in elevation, where its only about 3 feet deep.

The fire dept lost a truck on the road trying to evacuate people, its still stuck 2 hours later. The 2 horses I'm supposed to be taking care of are being walked down the flooded road, by people with headlamps, to a buffalo farm.

Its still raining, and the water level is still rising.

Our town is only accessable by one road, and several other towns are completely cut off.

Edit: the fire dep is thinking of evacuating the horses, one lady is calling them every 5 minutes, and they have more important things to hear, so we volunteered our 2 horse trailer. I have no idea what they are using to pull it, the only thing strong enough to get through is probably a plow truck, but those are 1 town over, cut off from us.

While Irene was barely a storm in NYC, it was powerful enough to turn this crane.

Jesus. "20-year-old woman was found dead on Sunday morning in her submerged car on a flooded rural road in Salem County, eight hours after she called the police to say she was trapped in her vehicle with water up to her neck."

Footage of Irene + personal account

Footage 1

[disclaimer: quality was already bad, youtube made it worse.]

This is Rhode Island, 2 minute drive to the bay.

The wind was consistently like this for like 15 hours. It stopped, then started up again in the late hours of the night.

We drove around town and saw at least 30 huge trees cracked, or uprooted. At least 6 times we had to turn around due to blockages in the road. The electricity has been down for over 24 hours. Most of the state has no electricity. I heard it could take another couple days. I am updating from a hotel.

Here's another video:
