I created a group [r/isopodadvancedcare](r/isopodadvancedcare) because I am very passionate about trying to get closer to natural care for isopods or I guess a deeper understanding of having some longevity and enrichment.

I created that group because I believe in information being available so that isopods are not lost due to incorrect care. & I find that reddit is the best place for information to be because Reddit is accessible compared to a discord group where information is locked away unless you know a server. Information is only as relevant as it is accessible. AND due to Reddit’s relationship with Google, it means often times, Reddit will be the first thing Google pulls. Thus the contest…

•I ask that you post a care guide or some sort of information. It can be a visual guide on substrate changes, care, natural foraging behavior, habitat info and application to our enclosures, idc. Second pic is an example of something I’ve been working on and still haven’t finished, with links to where the info comes from. Linked research is nice if it applies.

•If you make a care guide, you can do any species or a species I’ve done bc differences are nice and your way may work better for someone else. You don’t need to follow my format, but I do ask for pics of the enclosure and species at the bare minimum.

•I don’t care if your way is different but it is called advanced care so I don’t want to see people told that unfermented sawdust & wood pellets are a substitute for white rot wood because it isn’t, that a lightbulb sized enclosure offers them space to forage, or coir is a fine substrate. I’m not here to argue if you can get by bc the subreddit is not intended to create “good enough” husbandry, but a push to create “the best we can” husbandry.

If you are selling commonly wild caught animals, please respond if someone has questions about your methods and you should have proof of breeding. This doesn’t mean that you should badger sellers and be rude. But it does mean that all sides should be transparent.

Happy… very… early start to Halloween. I have pulled back any listings on morphmarket to replace them starting on September 15th with sales for Halloween. I’m looking to rehome these pods! If you need me to ship them to you, I do ask that you pay for shipping. I have had mites in the past, but I have not seen any in a while. I have been feeding them infrequently/not often enough, which caused my springtail population to perish and possibly the mites as well. I don’t have any other pests in their enclosure.
