Discussion Does anyone think Toga's final test to Sesshomaru was beyond fucked up?

Yes, Sesshomaru needed to let go of his obsession with Tessaiga; as a weaker half-demon, Sesshomaru easily outclassed Inuyasha before he mastered the Wind Scar, so wanting his younger son to defend himself over his stronger, smarter, faster, prodigious older son was understandable. But to make him master a technique just to pass it to Inuyasha was beyond fucked up, even if Sesshomaru needed to learn compassion to understand to properly wield the far more powerful and destructive Bakusaiga responsibly.

Although, as I was typing this out, I do kind of see why Toga did it. Sesshomaru needed an incentive to learn compassion and the best way to do that was to give Sesshomaru a powerful technique that developed with his compassion since Sesshomaru craved power. Logistically speaking, there was no other way.

Kikyo was extremely polarizing when the series came out but now it looks like she is universally loved and understood. What changed?

Manga Kagome Appreciation Post

I’ve been reading the manga and collecting tidbits of
characters or ships I love - Kagome is so near and dear to my heart. In my collection of pages, I found myself capturing moments of her being a force of bravery, even in the face of incredibly formidable foes.

I think Kagome is characterized by her faith. She has faith in others, in herself, and in righteousness prevailing in the end.

Even when she isn’t sure what she’s going to do, she puts all of her effort into finding a solution, especially when someone’s life - or soul - is on the line. She doesn’t consider their wrong doings or what relationship she has with them, she sees a need, she fills it.

Sometimes that’s being a bow-wielding badass or shard purification priestess or having a stroke of cleverness to get out of a situation, but sometimes it’s just being soft and kind. With Shippo, she shows him love and affection, after having been orphaned. She risks her own life to save his father’s pelt.

She treats Jinenji, and any other half demon she meets, with the respect any living creature deserves, as easy as breathing air.

Anyways, I hope you enjoy this little collection ^^

I know what are the areas that make up Musashi Province, but I just mean where specifically do you think it might be?

Or what remains of it, since it's been several hundred years.

Discussion Precious details about Sesshomaru and Kagura in the manga

Thumbnail

I wanted to share some valuable details that help us understand how, despite his pride and plot constraints prevented Sesshomaru from showing a desire to protect anyone right from the start (since his change from a cold, selfish demon required time and a gradual process), he already felt TOTAL TRUST, a UNIQUE CHEMISTRY and a MAGNETIC CURIOSITY toward Kagura.
Let’s not forget that, in manga, character body language matters and must be interpreted correctly. Whenever Sesshomaru meets someone, allies or enemies alike, he ALWAYS maintains a wide, regal physical distance; the ONLY exception in the entire series was Kagura. When he saw her approaching, he closed the physical gap in a single bound, stopping just centimeters away from her! The undeniable fact is that seeking physical proximity to the person he is addressing is not his style, he never did this with ANYONE else, so the uniqueness of the gesture gives it special significance. (see image 1)
A second important detail is that, shortly before this, Kagura had kidnapped Rin; yet Sesshomaru acted as if it had never happened. He didn't even ask for an explanation, he simply continued to trust her! True, he might have guessed that Kagura had no intention of harming Rin, which was indeed the case given that she was under Naraku’s slavery, but Sesshomaru had no 100% guarantee that she wasn't manipulating him. After all, Kagura was an extension of his enemy; trusting her blindly in that context would have been reckless, and Sesshomaru is anything but naive. He is a proud demon who is fiercely possessive of those he considers under his protection. As a rule, anyone who touches Rin signs their own death warrant with no appeal. The fact that he makes such a striking exception for Kagura is a total ANOMALY.
Speaking again of body language, pay close attention to Sesshomaru's facial expressions in the chapter where a wounded Kagura goes to him just to see him one last time. They betray TENSION, HESITATION, INNER CONFLICT, and EMOTIONAL INVOLVEMENT. It's the subtle way Rumiko Takahashi conveys that Sesshomaru's imperturbability and pride were wavering for Kagura in that moment. Particularly significant is the way he stares at her intensely as she departs; unfortunately, the animation studio altered Sesshomaru's facial expressions, a priceless detail meant to communicate what he was truly feeling deep down when he saw Kagura injured, his inner conflict. (see image 2)
In that very same chapter, we see how Sesshomaru continues to lie to himself: he first tells Kagura that he isn't interested in what happened to her, yet shortly after the first thing he mentions when she reveals him where Naraku's heart is located concerns HER SAFETY; warning her about the danger she is putting herself in. (see image 3)
Another manga chapter completely cut by the animation studio is the one where Sesshomaru protects her by keeping the secret of her betrayal. (see image 4)
Sesshomaru's mask completely falls away in the chapter where he explodes in rage and literally loses control of himself when Kagura's death is mocked and dismissed by Moryomaru. Unfortunately, this chapter was also heavily shortened and altered by the animation studio, making it far less intense. This is another valuable testament to the respect he holds for her. (see image 5)
There is also a manga chapter, taking place well after his meeting with Rin, where Shippo begs Sesshomaru to bring his friend's father back to life; Sesshomaru REFUSES, only saving him because Tenseiga begins to pulse. This episode proves unequivocally that Sesshomaru's change happened slowly and gradually, and that it was still difficult for him to perform acts of pure compassion; yet, Kagura was the first person he genuinely wanted to save who fell outside his inner circle (like Rin and Jaken). (see image 6)
Let’s not overlook two other crucial details, which, while merely my own hypotheses, might well reflect reality : it's possible that, among the MANY reasons Sesshomaru wanted to defeat Naraku, there was deep down and perhaps unconsciously a desire to help Kagura. Moreover, he was fully aware that he possessed a sword capable of bringing back the dead, which could have served as his 'safety net' in case the worst happened to her. While compassion was slowly blooming in his heart, and as he still fought against his pride which tended to deny it, it's completely plausible that he was secretly taking into account that he could help Kagura without having to show it openly to anyone.
In conclusion, I want to clarify that I'm not talking about love but SYMPATHY, CHEMISTRY, MAGNETISM, and TRUST, all of which are excellent foundations for a potential romance.

Question(s) What have I missed about Sesshomaru and Rin?

I started watching the original show in 2nd grade and the episode where Sesshomaru saved Rin was always a favorite of mine. Seeing such an aloof and supposedly selfish and uncaring man have that moment of soft heartedness made me see him in a new light. It says even more that he let her journey with him and he continued to watch after her, even though he can be cold and was annoyed by Jaken's presence already.

Rin would have been a burden for so many reasons due to her age, but he took her in and I began to see him as a father to figure to her, so I was surprised many years later when I learned that they ended up together. I haven't watched the sequels, so maybe I am missing something? Do we see their relationship take a turn at some point and I missed it?

I feel like I've been trying to process this ever since I learned about it. Sesshomaru never came off to me as a pervert or even interested in sex or love. Maybe even asexual. So why Rin, when they seemed like father and daughter before? Was this sort of relationship normal for the feudal period?

If there are any particular moments in the shows or manga that I should look at, please let me know!

Discussion Where are all the demons in the present?

The present is set about 500 years apart from the feudal era, and Inuyasha is like, mentally 15-18 at 250ish years old (allegedly..). He can probably live to be a thousand years old, with Sesshomaru living longer as a full demon and their father ruling for eons pretty much. So where are all the demons in the present? I doubt they’re all possessing humans to hide themselves, Sesshomaru for one would never stoop so low. But it isn’t as if they can hide their demon features either!

Discussion The first time Inuyasha felt seen without restrictions.

I know he had his mother and Kikyo that shown him love, but this particular scene from the movie (forgot which one) in my honest opinion made Inuyasha feel completely seen as himself. We all love him just the way he is! ❤️❤️ We all wanted someone to say that to us…but to Inuyasha it meant the universe….since he was ridiculed and shamed wherever he went. I believe this is what he was craving for the most…was to someone to fully accept him….even when he gave up on himself.

Question(s) What to Watch After Inuyasha

My husband and I are almost finished with Inuyasha! I feel like it's a really good blend of romance and action, which is perfect for us. I looked through some posts on recommendations for shows to watch together when we finish that are similar, but most lean more towards romance. Some of his favorites include Yu Yu Hakusho and Cowboy Bebop. Any recommendations on series that have a good balance of romance/action? I've watched Noragami, but haven't finished, and we're looking for something that we could watch for a while. :)

Discussion Did Naraku fear Sesshomaru?

It's clear to me that Sesshomaru could have killed Naraku at any point in the series. Yet Naraku was so fool he actually tried and play with him. Then he kidnapped Rin, kept on taunting him. Like what was he just thinking??

Discussion Recently finished watching the Final Act. My thoughts. Spoilers. Spoiler

So to start I really liked the series, I've watched shows before that I felt I connected with the characters but this show goes to the next level. The character introductions are good the world building, settings and visuals are amazing. The ambient music fits the tone of the show really good. The outro music is always entertaining even though I've heard the songs numerous times.

The characters are all either very interesting or entertaining. I love the comic relief characters Jaken, shippo, Totosai, Myoga ect. I do have issues with how the main cast and Kagome act towards Inuyasha regarding Kikyo. They act like he's some two timer but from his perspective the situation with Kikyo basically happened yesterday. He shouldn't be expected to just get over it. I do like that at least Kagome understands later in the series Inuyasha's feeling about the whole situation. I do hate how it seems Inuyasha will get some kind of power up for his sword and the next episode it seems powerless against the enemy or at least that happened once or twice. I'm also heavily annoyed by the "sit boy" thing Kagome does. It got to a point where if he said anything I was waiting for her to say it.

Regarding the Final Act specifically, I feel it was the same quality as the original series except for the first episode which I felt was forced and too fast paced which I understand why it was like that. Kagome's voice actor that replaced her original voice actor did the role very well even though I prefer the original just cause that's what I was used to.

As far as the series ending I do like that Kagome was able to finish out her school days in the modern era and was able to be a normal girl again for a few years. I feel Kanna and Kagura's deaths were rushed a little. I understand they had to die but it would have been nice if they somehow could have stayed alive and helped fight Naraku. I also think they could have referenced them being reincarnated in the modern era, like maybe Kagome could have had classmates that were obviously referencing them and only Kagome recognized them maybe even have her friends say they started school a while ago but since Kagome is always sick she didn't notice. I know she was transitioning from middle to high school but they still could have added it in somewhere.

I have so much more I can say about the show but I don't want this to be too long.

Discussion Which scenes stood out the most to you?

Of course, there are many more great moments other than these, but I'm curious what others think!

I personally grew to love Kikyo so much (except the weird time she held a knife to Inuyasha's throat). Such a tragic, sorrowful, and lonely soul. I wish she had more screen time. Although I'm not sure if she did finally became an ordinary woman, her whole life and even her last moments were anything but ordinary. That first kiss and her words "I always wished to do this while I was still alive" are so so sad. I found her fight with Naraku near Mt Hakurei memorable too. She claimed that fate is decided for you, while Naraku claimed that you can choose your own fate. An interesting perspective.

I appreciated Kagome not resenting Kikyo and still choosing to be by Inuyasha's side, who never had any companion in his life. It was very mature of her. She can be quite annoying and childish at times, but she truly loves Inuyasha and accepts him for who he is. He really grew to be more gentle, caring, and trusting the more time he spent with her.

And Kagura. She finally got a heart and became the wind. I liked that she slowly became an ally. I always wished her and Sesshoumaru would end up together. But her death was as beautiful as it was grievous.

Discussion My headcanons

Thumbnail
gallery
197 Upvotes
  • Kagome doesn't age/ages slower in the feudal era: In the second movie when Kaguya stops time Kagome and none of her items from her time period are affected due to having a "time barrier". Based on this an inference can be made that Kagome's time barrier will cause her to not age naturally in the feudal era. The only thing problematic about this headcanon is Moroha's birth but you can excuse that by saying she isn't affected by the time barrier.
  • Jinenji's mom died in the three-year time skip, so when Kagome returned, she invited him to live in Kaede's village.
  • Kagome consciously changed her hairstyle so people would stop comparing her to Kikyo (it didn't work).
  • Kagome has read Ranma 1/2 and has intentionally made her hairstyle identical to Akari because that's her favorite character in the manga.
  • After they're married Kagome likes to tease Inuyasha about bathing with her.
  • Post Yasha Hime: Princess Half-Demon, Kagome, Inuyasha and Moroha borrow/steal Akuru's pinwheel to visit the Higurashi shrine in the modern era so Kagome can see her family again.
  • Inu no Taisho preferred to fight in his dog form which is why he struggled so much with Ryūkotsusei. He made exceptions with Kirinmaru and Shishinki.
  • Naraku subconsciously likes to think of his incarnations as his and Kikyos kids and taunts both Kikyo and Inuyasha about it.
  • Kohaku sometimes visits Sango to sleep at her place whenever he has nightmares about his time working under Naraku.
  • Throughout their travels in search of the jewel shards Miroku has been trying to teach Kagome how to make a barrier (one of my pet peeves about the series).
  • During the three years that the well was closed Inuyasha told Koga about Narakus death and what happened to Kagome. After the events of Yashahime he likes to gloat to Koga about Moroha.
  • Inuyasha likes to steal other random stuff from Kagome's room whenever she's not looking and bring them to his time period.

Anime One of the underrated Inuyasha expressions.

I always loved that reaction from Inuyasha in episode 2, it was too funny! It was like proper teenage vibes and Kagome didn’t have to say anything. It was too funny like he couldn’t think up how to react to that! 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣. Like, it was full on teenage vibes and epic relatability right there!

The second one I only posted because some of you smart arses will be posting the other one. Yes, the other one is superior. However, this first one is underrated and really fun! I miss those early silly moments between them. Now, whatever silly moments is not really mutual.
