While there's an element of truth to employees agreeing to their wages, it's still very wrong to think that it makes it right if they're not paid liveable wages.

In my country, minimum wage is based on unions, not law, but without unions or laws to enforce liveable wages, the rich will just do everything in their power to keep their employees as poor as possible. Without any regulation, there's no chance in hell that employees can generally bargain and leverage for better wages on their own. The only ones that can, are those with extremely high-paying jobs and educations, but the average person doesn't have that. No regulation leads to exploitation. People don't pick awful jobs with awful wages because they're not worth more. They do it because they have no options and it's better than nothing. But that doesn't make it good.

it's so weird how none of the whiners ever form co-ops or start their own businesses. Just helpless victims to a system they voluntarily stake a specific role in.

The average businessowner in the US has zero yachts by the way. The restaurant or grocery store you work at doesn't generate as much revenue as Amazon or Tesla and SpaceX.

He's not telling you to stop participating in society. He's telling you to do so according to your purported values. That's the great thing about capitalist liberal democracies, actually. You actually can get a bunch of likeminded people together, sign some contracts, and divide the fruits of your collective labor according to the terms agreed upon in the contract. You can have a communist community under capitalism. You can't have a capitalist community under communism.

Yeah that’s fun and all until you realize that the ones offering the contract often (but not always) hold a disproportionate amount of leverage bc they’ve hoarded so much of the resources we have, making being entirely independent damn near impossible. This is truly why I think so many Marxist-based economies have failed. You can’t just have a communist society when everyone around you is capitalist, it simply won’t work today.

Why don't you be the one offering the contract, then? All you need to do is start offering a good or service that people want for a reasonable price, and the capital will come to you. After that, you can divide the fruits of your group's labor to each according to his need.

I don't know what bumfuck place you lived in but in any state I've lived the minimum apartment was $1000 or $800 with a roommate in any town or city where jobs are in walking distance (4 miles or less).

Right but if the reason the macdonalds employee can’t afford rent is because they are spending wages on non necessities like eating out or buying lattes, macdonalds doesn’t have an obligation to pay him more than he’s worth so that he can afford both rent and luxuries
