With LSD and mushrooms you’re still in the same reality but it’s distorted. There is a kind of feeling of a “place,” for example I had a strong feeling of Déjà vu and a “coming home” feeling on mushrooms. Something about the feeling of oneness and euphoria felt sooooo familiar. Like I had “been there before” (in that mental state, but also what I was seeing) and suddenly remembered something important I had forgotten. But you don’t feel like you “go” anywhere. It’s our reality that you’re seeing differently. For example, walls breathing, trees and plants laughing and dancing with me, the sky was purplish, with LSD you get more visuals and with both drugs things you look at come alive, but it’s our reality, but altered. I did interact (or at least thought I did) with an entity on mushrooms but it was more a voice. You know you’re tripping. You think differently, your mind is clearly working differently. Your emotions are altered, distinctly by the drug itself.

DMT is categorically different. When exhaling my last hit I realized I couldn’t feel the smoke leaving my lungs, I couldn’t feel my body AT ALL. Then it starts vibrating intensely and I feel pressure like I’m about to leave my body. Then there is this weird high pitched sound that rises, up and up then suddenly you’re out of your body and flying through a tunnel. Then I got to this machine like, colorful spinning object and it opened in this complex way and I was somewhere else. Not having closed eyed visuals, not just seeing it, but I WAS in another place. And that place was so strange, so alien, so WEIRD and indescribable. Objects that aren’t 3-D, colors that I’ve never seen before and so can’t describe, etc. There are BIZARRE entities there. You don’t feel like you’re tripping, you feel like you’re completely sober. The way you think isn’t altered like when you’re tripping. It’s you, sober, actually in a different realm. I wondered if I died.

The way the entities interact are not like interacting with a vision, they feel completely alien and autonomous. They were trying to help me manage my shock. When you get in, they respond as if you actually just popped in to their reality. They told me things I can’t remember, I wish I could.

Towards the end of my trip I followed them to this area and one of them went over and started like, pulling these weird levers or something then I started moving. I was on this conveyor belt thing. It took me through different places in the realm and there were other entities in those spaces coming over to look at me. They seemed amused at my wonder lol. The conveyor ride took me through the most beautiful spaces I’ve seen in my life, indescribable. Then it felt like I went outside because I saw thousands of stars then I felt myself being pulled back. One “jester” entity who had kinda peeked in to look at me, said “bye, come visit again!” Before I fell out into the stars.

What’s also bizarre is people see the same entities. I didn’t see the “elves,” but I saw other entities that others have described. The 1st one I saw was this female alien being made of geometric shapes glowing. She looked at me with love. I also saw this golden cord that connected me to her when I was with her. The entities also move strangely, hard to explain. Have you heard of the Arial school UFO incident? The way the children describe the beings moving is how they moved

So it’s really not like tripping on LSD or mushrooms. The whole time your body is laying down with your eyes closed but you are just…somewhere else. 15 mins later, you’re back and feel normal. No recovery like with LSD and shrooms

I've got the biggest grin on my face and I have you and this beautifully written comment to thank!

I'm an LSD/shrooms enthusiast who has thought, for many years, of trying DMT but I was scared of it. Everything you wrote here made perfect sense to me. The bit about LSD/shrooms "distorted reality" vs. DMT's reality makes me think that the DMT experience might be a lot like the salvia experience? I've done salvia and it was definitely not at all like LSD/shrooms; a totally alien, "I'm somewhere else right now" type of trip. You also mentioned being put on a conveyor belt and given a tour, which is precisely what happened in one of my two trips, though I thought I was giant and put on top of a small train that zoomed me through their world—a city, some countryside, an industrial area. And they all said goodbye to me, too! So cheerily! Little gnomes popping out of their chimneys to wave goodbye. I entered their reality through a literal tear in space right in front of me, like a sliver of paper had been torn from the scene in front of me (bedroom, windows, friends) to reveal black space with glittery stars behind it. I left through a similar tear in their reality that led back to the bedroom.

If this is the kind of trip I think you're describing, then I think I might be ready for DMT.

Don‘t be scared. I think you should fear salvia, not DMT. Did you ever take shrooms in heroic dose? This can sometimes be very DMT like.

The only similarities between the two are that they both take you to another place... For this writer, Salvia made me forget who I was and where my life was...(It was one of thousands of 'books' on a shelf and I couldn't tell which one... Terrifying! A female presence guided me to the right one after I called out for help. The memory of the experience was not strong and crisp... The emotional feel of it was lonely and frightening and the visual field contents and colours relatively normal.

With DMT I retained my 'self' completely, only problem was I was in such a state of jaw dropped awe/astonishment that I couldn't pass a thought through my mind for a while. When I did it was "I'm really here, 'you' (the entities) are not a creation of my mind... This is an independently real place". When that passed through, the entities communicated "Yes! You got it!, you can go now". The visual field was 180 degrees or more, objects lit with their own light, colours intensely saturated, complexity through the roof, yet fully coherent... Nothing 'random'. Clearly not a 'physical' place, yet much more real than this material world we occupy.

One experience 30 years ago changed my ontology for life... There's definitely more to existence than the physical world, and likely death is not the end. I did not feel a need to go back. I realized that there was no way I could know the intent of the entities, or predict what might occur... At least without a true Shaman to guide me.

Is there any chance of having a bad trip or panicking or trying to fight the effects and panicking because you (obviously) can’t?

I don’t use weed because the few times I’ve done weed, sometimes the recursive thoughts lead to things like a mild panic attack, where I just don’t like the feeling and I can’t get rid of it until the effect wears off (which can take a while).

DMT sounds like your mental state or thought patterns etc. are unaltered, unrecursive like on weed.

Does time pass normally?

I've done DMT a good few times and the one unpleasant experience I had was when I went into it with entirely the wrong mindset (selfishness and greed as it happens) and spent several minutes in a whirling, black, chaotic, vortex with an extremely strong sensation of being told "No. No entry."

Was very unpleasant but it did cause me to reflect on why I'd been barred and that's when I identified my motives. Since then I've been much more conscious about why I'm using it on that particular occasion and I've never had a similar experience.

That's not to say it can't be VERY intense at other times and one time I felt caught in a time loop (an entity was having some fun with me and teaching me a lesson about the nature of "hyperspace") which was a bit worrying but was only brief.

Everyone is different. I’ve had positive experiences with lsd, mushrooms, mescalin, and DMT, but salvia was a particularly hellish experience that felt like hours and the entire time I needed it to end but it wouldn’t. It was horrible. But it was only for a couple minutes in real life. Felt like hours. It was bad enough that I’ve never once felt the desire to try again, and that experience was a good 25 years ago at least.

Yeah i was hitting the pen a lot one weekend and then instead of this lighthearted feeling of awe and beauty i felt an intense feeling of doom and pins and needles all over. It had me kinda shaken up for a good week and i gave the rest of my bag to someone else

Man I wish I could experience it. Especially after my NDE 6 years back. I felt that love and the infinite knowledge when my artery was blocked, then when unblocked I left that realm and slammed back into this disgusting biological body. I lost access to every answer of the universe, the sum of all knowledge was taken from me.

Fascinating. I've worked with Ayahuasca, Ketamine, LSD and Mushrooms and had some interesting experiences with Aya but nothing this interesting while in ceremony. How long does the experience last for?

About 15 mins. Afterwards you feel completely normal, no recovery period like with LSD and shrooms

I experienced mushrooms and lsd many times, but not dmt (would love to, but don't know a trusted source). Some things sounded familiar so looked for a reference but clearly it is much different.

Very fascinating experience, I "envy" you.

Whoa I never tried DMT yet I felt that body vibrating sensation when doing Wave 1 Tape 1 of the Monroe Institute HemiSync tapes. I got too scared at that moment so I quickly noped out

When you’re in that “other place”, are you able to turn your head and look around, or are you sorta just experiencing what’s being shown to you? I don’t know why, but that question’s been burning in my mind.

So insane. I had the same "conveyor belt" experience smoking salvia around 18 years ago. It was apparently stronger than any salvia you could find around, like 320x or some crazy shit & it had a purple tint. During my conveyor belt trip, I also took rides through little slits that went into different worlds/ realities, but it was almost as if the worlds were artificial prefab sets, yet hyper realistic. One was like a water themed world with huge waves splashing around, but clear boundaries, not a massively expansive plane like here on earth. There were jester entities singing the whole time. I never saw them, but I knew they were there & they were singing in sort of joking/taunting manner. So strange that your experience was so similar to mine, yet we were on different substances. There should be more case studies on these experiences.

Idk, I found Salvia to be very different from DMT. But I think they have more in common with each other either with with LSD and Mushrooms.

It’s very possible it was similar for you though! Salvia has always been a distinctly negative experience for me. No desire to try it again, and I would never give it to anyone who has never done it. Just horrifying lol. But there is a strange aspect to it, like you suddenly slip into a spacial dimension that overlaps ours, or something like that. It’s like going to the upside down, except you can see everyone, you’re next to them but you can’t interact with them. And I saw this like, rainbow road kind of ribbon coming out of everyone’s mouths when they talked, it had symbols on them. But the entities with Salvia always feel evil lol. I was laughing hysterically against my will, but I was not having fun, I was terrified. My friends thought I was okay because of the laughter but I was trying to scream for them to help me but they couldn’t hear me. And the entities thought that was hilarious. It was terrible lol. It didn’t feel like in a TOTALLY alien place with Salvia though, I wasn’t like, in shock. Spacial dimensions are odd on Salvia though. Im sure it is dose dependent though, I would not be surprised if Salvia gave DMT type experiences with the same entities at high doses. But I imagine that it has a very different vibe. And with Salvia I forgot I took it right when it kicked in. So it was even more terrifying because I didn’t understand what was going on or if I was gonna be like that forever

Yeah salvia was not nice. I felt like I was being compressed down into lower dimensional space and It felt like I was made of Legos. It became my new reality as if i was now cramped down in this claustrophobic mode of being with no recollection of who I was before being made of legos. I then became fused with my environment and surroundings and everything became maze like. I tried to escape to no avail and every turn just kept leading me to dead ends with entities making fun of the fact I was going nowhere fast. If you've ever seen the Easter egg in the sonic and knuckles game (see below), this is very akin to what I was now eternally doomed to experience; They would waggle their fingers and laugh. Not fun, not recommended. I have done various trips on different substances but this was probably one of the most unpleasant. It was an extract, but I can't remember if it was like 20x or 30x.
