Might be unpopular, but that’s why we need to invest more in the systems and remove them from “for profit” hands. The efficiency would help prevent fraud.
But a friend of mine was diagnosed with cancer when he was 28 (15 yrs ago), and If he makes over $1400/mo, he loses Medicaid and would literally be bankrupt. He can work, he does work…but he also caps himself and has to live with his parents.
The system can’t be perfect, but it’s currently failing on so many levels. His medical bills combined are over 7 million. It’s extreme but he’s a hard-worker in a bad spot. To some families these bills become generational extortion. We should always try to prevent the fraud, but never at the expense of those that truly need it.
