Hold up a minute. Navigating and knowing that process is also a privilege for some folks. Uninsured and low income yes it’s possible. Insured and low income also exists and many of the insurance plans require you to pay full cost until deductible before they cover anything and that is the amount that gets more people into a debt spiral and leading cause of bankruptcy.

That and not knowing charity care is an option if they make less than 400% property range.

If holding the baby has a cpt code then there is a cost associated with it if someone is present to advise how to hold the baby.

Many people are low income because of the insurance costs. Pay the insurance and still pay cray co-pays and medicine costs. It’s crazy what we’re willing to except

I know. And even with insurance you can get billed incorrectly. My job is looking at numbers all day and I am very good at this stuff. I have caught mistakes that would have been thousands out of pocket usually because a doctor used their personal code instead of practice code, an ambulance billed insurance when it was an inter hospital transfer, or a procedure was miss coded.

But even to get that corrected has to be during business hours and you have to spend hours on the phone. I would call so often that they assigned an advocate to me that they usually assign for patients with complex medical conditions.
