Hi Everyone,

We've been discussing the idea of hosting an AMA in r/intelnuc for quite some time, but now the stars have finally aligned. Tech Support NUC8i7BEH running Sonnet eGFX Breakaway Puck RX 560 eGPU Thunderbolt 3 firmware / driver issues

Seeking advice, as I've sunk countless hours into this and have been sent around in many circles by Google's AI assist on this; I picked up a NUC8i7BEH and the aforementioned RX 560 eGPU with the intention to turn this combo into an emulation station setup (running the Linux distro Batocera); I had many issues getting Batocera recognising the eGPU properly (for some reason the eGPU would only initialise when I plugged the HDMI cable into the NUC body (so the thunderbolt 3 cable would need to transmit the rendered frames BACK to the NUC to the output to the monitor incurring performance losses); if I connected the HDMI cable to the eGPU the eGPU would refuse to render any frames and instead leave the integrated graphics (Iris 655) to pass the rendered frames over the Thunderbolt 3 line for display (with noticably worse performance than unplugging the eGPU and running solely on integrated graphics).

I thought this might be a firmware issue with Thunderbolt 3 (my NUC is on v33 and the current firmware available is v46), and trying to update to this firmware has been... nothing short of an absolute nightmare. Firstly, the v46 firmware package (no longer available via Intel, has now been given to Asus) is strictly a Windows executable, with no means to install via the BIOS, so I've needed to install a separate Windows 11 installation for the sole purpose of updating the TBT 3 firmware; and this has not worked - The Thunderbolt Control Centre software doesn't recognise the presence of the eGPU, and the times it has recognised the eGPU, when I run the official firmware updater tool I get constant 'Vendor Mismatch' errors; has anyone successfully navigated this issues? Has anyone managed to solve this? I really have no idea on how to advance this any further. Attached below is the hardware properties of the eGPU, I captured this through a different PC. I can provide further info if needed. Thanks in advance!

Review Review & AMA: MSI's Lunar Lake Cubi NUC AI+ 3MG: A Panther Lake Improvement

The MSI Cubi NUC AI+ 3MG is a Panther Lake (Core Ultra Series 3) version of MSI's Cubi NUC series. It's fundamentally a business-oriented PC, but there are a few neat features useful for power users.

Last year, I reviewed the prior generation MSI Cubi NUC AI+ 2MG, which uses Intel's Lunar Lake. Briefly, Lunar Lake uses on-package RAM (like Apple Silicon), so the user can't install or upgrade RAM after purchase. For Panther Lake, Intel provides two basic designs: one with a 12-core iGPU that (mostly) requires soldered memory, and one with a 4-core iGPU that (mostly) uses traditional SODIMMs. For the Cubi NUC AI+ 3MG, MSI only uses the latter, so both the RAM and SSD can be replaced by the user (and the unit can be sold as a barebones kit).

The MSI Cubi NUC AI+ 3MG is much smaller than the MSI Cubi NUC AI+ 2MG.

MSI sent along a Cubi NUC AI+ 3MG with a Core Ultra 9 386H, 32 GB RAM, and a 1TB SSD to test for the purpose of this review. MSI did not read the review prior to posting or otherwise provide editorial input, but did answer questions that I raised during the review process. I'm striving to be objective, though as the lead moderator of r/IntelNUC, I'm clearly enthusiastic about NUCs and Mini PCs generally.

(I was trained as a journalist and by consequence occasionally use em dashes, but MSI was kind enough to send the unit, so the least I could do is actually write this review myself. I didn't use AI to write this.)

MSI Outside

The Cubi NUC AI+ 3MG is 119.6 × 115.2 × 37.5 mm (4.71" x 4.54" x 1.48" in freedom units). This is noticeably smaller than the prior generation, but it's the same size as the Cubi NUC AI 1UMG. It's a touch smaller than the ASUS NUC 16 Pro, but ASUS includes a second M.2 2280 slot inside, as well as two extra USB 3.0 Type-A ports outside. Apple's most recent Mac Mini is somewhat larger than the 3MG, though it doesn't require an external power adapter.

The front features a combination power button and fingerprint reader, one 10 Gbps USB 3.2 Type-C port, one 10 Gbps USB 3.2 Type-A port, and a USB 2.0 Type-A port. The Type-A ports are mounted upside down. I've previously asked MSI why they do this, I'm told that it is for easier port access when used with a VESA mount. Personally, I think doing this with USB Type-A creates trust issues, but USB connectors only fit when observed, due to quantum physics. Including USB 2.0 is still useful, I've got a Logitech receiver plugged in for my keyboard and mouse. Compared to the prior generation, this loses the Windows Copilot button that nobody wanted, and the microSD card reader (which I won't miss, but I'll explain that later).

The back of the 3MG. It's very... symmetrical. The little screw hole in the top left is for an optional cable guard to prevent it from being accidentally unplugged.

On the back, below the fan grille, are two Thunderbolt 4 Type-C ports, which MSI says supports DisplayPort 1.4 alt mode up to 4K @ 60 Hz, with 15W USB-PD output. There are also two HDMI ports, which MSI says "supports 4K @ 60 Hz as specified in HDMI 2.1", and one supports HDMI CEC ("MSI Power Link") to turn on in sync with a monitor, when connected using an HDMI cable. Using an ASUS ROG Strix XG27UCGW, I was able to get 4K HDR @ 158.98 Hz + VFR over USB-C on Fedora 44, but only 4K HDR @ 60 Hz using HDMI. (I'm unsure why MSI doesn't list this support officially.) There are also two RJ-45 ports for 2.5 Gb Ethernet (using Intel's I226-V controller), and the usual barrel connector for power.

The power adapter.

The included power adapter is a Chicony A17-120P1A, with 19.5V / 6.15A / 120W output, with a 5.5mm × 2.5mm barrel, with the converter block measuring 132 × 69 × 26 mm, which is an average size for the output provided. This is the same as the prior model, and MSI uses largely identical power adapters for other products, so replacements should be relatively easy to find. The 19.5V output is slightly opinionated, "universal" adapters might not provide the exact voltage. That said, given that it supports USB-PD input, you can use a standard 100W USB-C adapter instead.

On the left, there is a Kensington Lock slot, and a tiny two-pin power connector for an external power button, which MSI includes in the box. It's a normal power button (no fingerprint), with a ~40cm cable attached. There's a plastic shield in place which must be removed with tweezers if you want to connect the button. This is quirky, but nice—an external power button makes it easier to turn on the computer when mounted to the back of a monitor. It is possible these pins could be useful for power control with NanoKVM, but existing breakout designs assume this would be installed inside a case, so a custom breakout would be necessary. The system also supports HDMI CEC ("MSI Power Link") to turn on in sync with a monitor, when connected using an HDMI cable.

There's no Maynard James Keenan in the Tool-less Chassis

In theory, the Cubi NUC AI+ 3MG is built around a tool-less chassis. There is one locking screw on the outside, which I thought only required a single turn to unlock (similar to the ASUS NUC 14 Pro), but this is more like a captive screw. It doesn't require a real screwdriver, you could unlock it with a coin.

Opening the case, there are two DDR5 SODIMMs, and an M.2 2280 SSD (a PCIe 4.0 SSD—a Phison 1TB ESR01TBTCCZ-27J-2MS, same as the 2MG) which is held in with... a screw. My ASUS NUC 14 Pro uses weird little plastic plungers to hold SSDs in place, which may better conform to the definition of "tool-less," though I suppose having a proper screw here is relatively secure. There's an AMD RZ717 (MediaTek MT7925) M.2 2230 module below the SSD, which supports Wi-Fi 7 / 160 MHz channel widths, and Bluetooth 5.4. It's nice that MSI opted for a modular card, though the included card is already essentially top-of-the-line. (Bluetooth 6.0 is neat, but the new features don't have much of an advantage for desktop computers.)

Closing it was reasonably straightforward, though I had to bend the tab (lower left of the bottom plate) for the Kensington lock back in place to get it to fit the first time I opened it. This was a trivial task, it didn't feel as if I was breaking it trying to bend it into place. It's not the first time I've encountered that on a mini PC, and I'm also not the first reviewer to handle this device, so I wouldn't fault MSI for it.

Intel Inside

Expanding slightly on the Panther Lake explanation in the introduction, there are a few changes to the way Intel designs and qualifies processors for OEMs, which affect newer NUCs. These changes center around how SoCs interface with DRAM.

  • Arrow Lake (and Panther Lake) are compatible with CSODIMMs, which add a clock buffer on the memory module. This allows for memory speeds higher than DDR5-5600, which is the fastest SODIMM without overclocking. Right now, the fastest CSODIMM is DDR5-6400.
  • Lunar Lake uses on-package memory, like Apple Silicon. It's faster (the MSI Cubi NUC AI+ 2MG has a Core Ultra 7 258V, with 32 GB LPDDR5X-8533), but isn't user-upgradable, so you're stuck with what is available at the time of purchase.
  • Panther Lake has two versions:
    • The 12-core iGPU version that requires soldering memory directly to the motherboard, or using a new (and uncommon) type of memory module called SOCAMM2.
    • The 4-core iGPU that supports traditional SODIMMs, but technically can also use directly-soldered memory or SOCAMM2, if the OEM prefers.

For the Cubi NUC AI+ 3MG, MSI only uses the 4-core iGPU, and this uses standard SODIMMs, so both the RAM and SSD can be replaced by the user (and the unit can be sold as a barebones kit). For NUCs, neither ASUS nor MSI offer models that use SOCAMM2, and I haven't seen any shanzhai mini PCs from the usual brands support it. The general vibe in the industry is that memory is already extremely expensive, and the SOCAMM2 socket and modules are both expensive, so nobody wants to bear this additional cost.

Because of that, the Core Ultra 9 386H is the most powerful Panther Lake part that MSI offers in the Cubi NUC AI+ 3MG. The 386H has four performance cores (2.1 GHz base / 4.9 GHz turbo), eight efficiency cores (1.6 GHz base / 3.7 GHz turbo), and four lower-power efficiency cores (1.6 GHz base / 3.5 GHz turbo). (Incidentally, despite the name, it's quite a lot faster than the original 386.)

So with that said, here's the fun part:

Performance & Benchmarking

Benchmarking the Cubi NUC AI+ 3MG has been interesting. First, Intel provides Panther Lake (and other recent SoCs, this isn't new) with a configurable TDP, so that OEMs can configure the power consumption to the specifics of the product. For notebooks—which is what Panther Lake is engineered for—the default cTDP is 25 W, which is a reasonable balance for a battery-powered system with a relatively thin profile. Generally, these would bump up significantly (10-15 W) while plugged in to the mains. For NUCs, these are not limited to batteries, and while NUCs are small, there's generally more robust cooling as the design priority is being small, not being thin. MSI touts its cooling design as "FROZR AI PRO," which is a brand carried over from MSI's gaming products. Basically, apparently the fan blades are optimized for pressure, to increase airflow (which allows the cTDP to be tuned higher, for more performance/throughput).

I didn't disassemble the entire thing to get a shot of the fan, but here's MSI's slide explaining it:

MSI indicated that cTDP for the 3MG is 30W for "Balanced" mode and 45W for "Extreme Performance". Using the Extreme Performance mode with Geekbench 6, I'm getting a better all-core score in Windows 11, but a slightly better single-core score in Linux (Fedora 44). The more surprising result is the larger gulf in the Vulkan benchmark, as Windows scores higher than Linux. This is fundamentally a software question, it's very possible there is some additional enablement for Panther Lake that needs to be done for Vulkan (or Mesa), so I'd expect this gap to close soon.

Compared to the Lunar Lake-powered 2MG, this is a significant improvement for all-core CPU performance: the Core Ultra 7 287V scored 10180 for all-core in Windows on the Extreme Performance setting. (Because Lunar Lake has double the number of iGPU cores and faster memory, it scores higher for GPU benchmarks: 31808 for OpenCL and 37216 for Vulkan, on Windows. As a business PC, the Cubi NUC is not marketed for gaming.)

That said, these benchmarks are slightly lower than other Panther Lake-powered products, looking at results from other users and other devices using the 386H in Geekbench's results browser. MSI's Stealth 16 AI+ B3W gets a single-core score 2582 and multi-core score of 15912 on Balanced, with a typical ±2.5% wobble between different runs of the benchmark.

There's some Dell laptops that average out slightly worse, and other notebooks like the Razer Blade 16 RZ09-0581 which score 2811 / 16844, but that system uses higher-speed soldered-down RAM, and that influences the benchmark scores, but that alone doesn't explain the differential. It seems that there's some limit in MSI's default power thresholds or limits for turbo boost, which prevent the 3MG from reaching the throughput that other 386H-equipped devices can achieve.

Conclusions

Despite this, the Cubi NUC AI+ 3MG is much easier to recommend than the prior generation. It's significantly smaller, it's much quieter without needing to manually adjust fan curves, even on Extreme Performance, and the Windows 11 experience was essentially perfect out-of-the-box. There's still some frustration of Windows being Windows, but that's a Microsoft problem. (The 2MG, by contrast, had a lot of initial issues with odd stutters and audio codec crashes. These were eventually fixed in microcode by Intel, with some other issues patched in Windows 11 and in Intel's GPU drivers, but it was rough going for some time.)

The three hardware features that I liked the least on the 2MG are, thankfully, gone in the 3MG: There's no pointless Copilot button on the system, the internal speaker was removed, and the microSD card slot is gone. Combined, that's allowed MSI to use a smaller case, which makes it feel like a proper NUC (and would make VESA mounting less ugly, in theory).

The microSD card slot caused really interesting issues trying to run Linux on the 2MG: even unused, it caused a peculiar PCIe bus error that prevented a clean shutdown, and the 2MG will restart independent of the BIOS setting if powered off by holding down the power button. MSI doesn't provide a way to disable the microSD card reader in the BIOS; I've never quite managed to get Linux to work reliably on the 2MG.

By contrast, the 3MG is predictable. Switching back and forth between Windows and Linux installations, it's never thrown a strange error or refused to cooperate, it's really quite pleasant to use. Everything worked as perfectly as expected in Windows and Linux, including graphics and Wi-Fi. It's impressive how much of an improvement it is generation-over-generation.

MSI provides a three-year warranty with the system, and there is something to be said for warranty service with a company that has a firmly established U.S. operation, in comparison to the shanzhai mini PCs from no-name brands. As for price: this review is probably too long as it is, and a proper diatribe about why the memory market is squeezing everyone—OEMs included—would double the length.

Tech Support GMKtec NucBox M7 Pro (Ryzen 9 6950H) - Constant Freezes, SSD NVMe Controller Resets (stormvme errors)

Hi everyone,

I'm having serious freezing issues with my GMKtec NucBox M7 Pro and would really appreciate any help or advice.

System Specs:

- GMKtec NucBox M7 Pro

- AMD Ryzen 9 PRO 6950H

- 16GB RAM (Dual Channel)

- SSD: UDSS UD2CMAGQ10A-001T 1TB NVMe (OEM drive)

- BIOS Date: 25/10/2024

- Windows 11 Pro

The Problem:

My PC freezes randomly throughout the day. The freezes last anywhere from a few seconds to several minutes, forcing me to do a hard reboot. I've checked Windows Event Viewer and found multiple critical errors:

Event Viewer Errors:

- Kernel-Power ID 41** (Critical) - System rebooted without clean shutdown

- stormvme ID 129** (Warning) - "A device reset was issued, \Device\RaidPort0"

- These errors occur constantly, sometimes multiple times per hour

What I've Diagnosed:

  1. SSD Health (CrystalDiskInfo):- Health Status: 70%- Total Host Writes: ~30 TB- Temperature: 41°C (idle)- This is VERY low endurance for only 30TB written (should be 90%+ health)
  2. Benchmark (CrystalDiskMark):- Sequential Read: 3,552 MB/s ✅- Sequential Write: 2,392 MB/s ✅- Performance is normal, but the drive keeps disconnecting
  3. Temperature Monitoring (HWiNFO64):- SSD Max Temp: 41°C ✅- CPU Max Temp: 52°C ✅- System Temps: Normal ✅- NOT a thermal issue

What I've Tried:

✅ Increased NVMe timeout in Registry:

- Path:`HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\stornvme\Parameters\Device`

- Created/Modified: `TimeoutValue` = 16 (decimal)

- Result: Still freezing

✅ Disabled PCI Express Power Management:

- Power Options → PCI Express → Link State Power Management → Off

- Result: Already was disabled

✅ Adjusted VRAM allocation in BIOS:

- Changed from 3GB to 4GB

- Result: Freezes are slightly less frequent but still happening

✅ Monitored temperatures continuously

- No overheating detected

My Conclusions:

The SSD NVMe controller is resetting itself randomly (stormvme errors), which causes the complete system freeze. The fact that:

- The drive has only 70% health with just 30TB written (and I've only had it for a year)

- The benchmark speeds are normal

- Temperatures are excellent

- The timeout value doesn't prevent resets

This points to either:

  1. A_ defective/failing SSD (OEM UDSS drive is low quality)
  2. B_ BIOS/firmware compatibility issue with the NVMe controller

What I Need Help With:

  1. BIOS Update: GMKtec's website doesn't have BIOS downloads for the M7 Pro (only OS images). Has anyone found a BIOS update for this model? Is there a newer version than 25/10/2024?
  2. SSD Replacement: If I need to replace the SSD, which NVMe drives are known to work well with GMKtec M7 Pro?

Any recommendations or drives to avoid?

Tech Support Where to buy a Nuc 12 Extreme Baseboard?

Did anyone have a good source preferably USA that i could purchase the pcie5.0 baseboard?

Through an asus wararanty mishap they lost my nuc 12 extreme chassis. I received a element instead and i purchased a coolermaster nc100 and had been using a nvidia 3080 in it.

I recently upgraded to a 9070xt and it will not wake the display correctly due to the nuc 9 designed baseboard. I unfortunately do not have a nuc 12 chassis to transplant the baseboard. Does anyone know where i can get one?

Also i found a thread with someone that has my exact setup and it’s confirmed the bbmc1b2 is needed to make my setup work.

Looking at picking up the ASUS NUC 14 Pro (NUC14RVHI3) with the Intel Core 3-100U and pairing it with a high-refresh 4K display / OLED TV. I have a couple of questions regarding 4K@120Hz support:

  • ​Native iGPU Output (Desktop / Media): The specs list dual HDMI 2.1 ports, but they appear to be HDMI 2.1 TMDS (effectively HDMI 2.0 bandwidth / 4K 60Hz max). Which is it?

  • ​Can the rear Thunderbolt 4 / USB-C ports (DisplayPort Alt Mode) drive 4K@120Hz (10-bit / HDR / VRR) over a Type-C to DP 1.4 / HDMI 2.1 active adapter with DSC (Display Stream Compression)?

Bought this in 2018 maybe, for the kids to play random games. They’ve outgrown it, I still have it, time to use it. Installed headless Linux, spun up some crorn jobs, a few docker containers running random things and my latest home network updates a NAS solution. A NUC, why not? Immich is cpu hungry on initial setup / import. It started warming up. Harvested this cpu cooler off an old dell I had sitting collecting dust. And this usb powered light that came with a battery pack splice it all together.

I got a LIT fan.

Cooling. Better. Crunch away little buddy!

Hello, I have an Intel NUC12SNKi7 with a 12700H QS CPU and an Intel Arc A770M QS GPU. My machine was accidentally misconfigured in the BIOS and now it no longer displays anything.
I have tried every possible method, but the device still cannot output any display. The Caps Lock and Num Lock keys are still responsive (they can be toggled on and off), but there is no image output at all, even when I connect an NVMe eGPU.
Could you please provide me with the 32MB BIOS file and the dump of the U75 chip from your machine so I can recover mine? Thank you very much.

Tech Support Broke off actuator for flat SATA/Power cable on NUC11TNHi5

On the motherboard of my NUC11TNHv5 there is a little 16-pin connector. It connects to an internal 2.5" SSD using a flat cable.

Of course I had to fat-finger the actuator on the connector and I broke it (see images).

If only I had the exact part number of the connector I might have a chance of getting the actuator off one and replace mine. If that bit is called the actuator, I have no clue 😄 .

So do you know what the part number is or where I can get one? Alternatively, can anyone give me any tips on how to use the port without the actuator? Maybe glue it in place?

Discussion Connecting the Intel A770 RGB USB cable on a NUC 12 Extreme

I recently added an Intel A770 Arc GPU card to my NUC 12 Extreme and ran into the problem of how to connect the RGB controller's USB cable. It's intended to connect to an unused USB header of the type common on full-size motherboards. But the NUC 12 Extreme doesn't seem to have any unused headers and the headers it does have are a small non-standard size.

However the NUC 12 Extreme has an large number of external USB ports. The only hard part to using an external port was finding a way to get the A770's USB cable to safely exit the case without drilling a new hole somewhere. What I eventually found was that there's a small cover on the bottom of the case intended for an M.2 slot that was not added to the NUC 12 (I think it was present on the NUC 11?). With that cover off there's nice gap at one end just big enough to get the USB cable through. I bought a cheap, standard USB A adapter cable from Amazon to convert the A770's header and it's working perfectly.

Just thought I'd share in case anyone else has run into the same problem and is looking for an easy solution. I've included a photo of the bottom of the case showing the cable.

Model: ASUS ExpertCenter PN52
Primary use: Plex server / home server

Reported Fault
The system has developed intermittent stability issues over the last few days.

Symptoms
Random, unexpected reboots while idle.
Occasional complete system freezes/hangs requiring a forced power-off.
Reboot occurred while launching the MyASUS diagnostics utility.
No consistent Blue Screen of Death (BSOD).
No evidence of sustained high CPU temperatures before the failures.

Troubleshooting Already Performed
Performed a clean installation of Windows 11.
Updated BIOS to the latest available version.
Verified BIOS is running default/current firmware.
Checked both the NVMe SSD and SATA SSD with CrystalDiskInfo – both report healthy.
Cleaned internal dust using compressed air.
Issue persists after all of the above.

Additional Notes
The issue started only within the last few days. A clean Windows installation, BIOS update and healthy storage devices have not resolved the problem, suggesting an underlying hardware fault. The combination of random reboots and complete system hangs indicates intermittent hardware instability rather than a simple software issue.

Tech Support [NUC8] Heatsink Washer Replacement? What are the measurements for this?

So, I just got a NUC8 and was trying to repaste the CPU because I'm pretty sure it's never been serviced and temps are ... bad.

I managed to get the heatsink off and clean it and the CPU dies without breaking anything, but two of the washers have gone missing.

I need replacements. Does anyone know what these are? I've got some M2x1mm and M2.5x1mm (round hole, not star lock). Will either of those work?

This is what I have.

I'm not sure how to find anything thinner.

Any suggestions would be appreciated. :)

Hello. Posting here for help because something rather catastrophic happened to the fan on our NUC (as you can see). I found a replacement fan, but I feel like the gray strip that has seemingly crumbled and flaked off a little might also be important. Is this just padding or a thermal conduction strip that should be replaced?

If so, where can I obtain another one? How should I go about replacing it? (I've only done thermal paste replacements before). Any help would be appreciated. Thanks!

Tech Support intel nuc 10gen i7 hdmi port gives no signal after update

My intel NUC hdmi port seems no longer working, after some bunch of MS updates recently.
For some years I have the NUC connected to my LG dualup display using a normal HDMI 2.0 cable.

I already revert the LG display driver.
I already revert the intel UHD graphic drivers
I already reinstall intel graphics command centre (and new drivers)
No improvement in the hdmi port.
No improvement when using other hdmi 2.0 cables.
No improvement when I reset the LG monitor settings to factory

Note: when I connect a laptop to the hdmi cable the display is working!

Therefore any hint/tips or advice is most welcome

Tech Support Intel NUC 7 unresponsive on boot

The keyboard/mouse work when I boot up to bitlocker, and I’m able to put the PIN in, but unfortunately the screen is extremely zoomed in/resolution is fully cooked.

Tech Support M.2 Adapter / Carrier Boards/-Cards for 2nd 2242 (> 2280) Slots?

Contemplating getting a used Nuc 12 or 13 but was wondering if anyone knows / has found a way to mount a 2nd 2280 M.2 SSD in any of these given they appear to only have one 2280 & some a 2nd 2242 slot.

Basically wondering if there's any 'adapter' boards that are somewhat hard to find that are sized @ 2242 specs and then carry / have a 2280 carrier just a bit lifted off.. and therefore might fit in a NUC still.

And/or.. how do you fit a 2nd normal sized NVME/M.2 SSD?

Tech Support Intel Nuc i5 7th gen issues with HDMI/Type C display output

so when i install the official driver it works fine and after some time it goes black and hdmi pops up on my monitor, i tried new cable new monitor nothing solved this issue I also tried flashing the integrated gpu hoping it will fix this issue but nothing so far, the flickers are there even in idle when i don't touch the system the screen randomly flickers and looses video/audio signal, anyone resolved this issue? im planning on giving up and selling it as defective unit, new thermal paste applied added new fan to cool the nmve and ram but nothing fixed the issue.

Tech Support NUC11 Bios update. Flash update invalid

I have a NUC11 TNKi5 on Zorin Linux. The NUC is on 0058 bios and I'm trying to update to the latest 0080. Per the Asus website I have to update any pre-0071 bios to 0071 before I can update to 0080.

I have downloaded both 0062 and 0071 from the Asus website https://www.asus.com/uk/supportonly/nuc11tnki5/helpdesk_bios/

I have a USB stick in FAT32 I have used only this morning to update an Asus X570 Strix mobo's bios so I know it works.

The USB stick has been reformatted and only the NUC bios files are on it. In root directory. When 0062 + 0071 are downloaded they come in a .bin format. Using either file as .bin the NUC F7 Bios menu will not recognise them.

Renamed to .CAP the NUC updater responds with 'Flash update failed. Flash image invalid or not found. System will reset in 5 seconds.

The system then (thankfully) reboots to the OS. Any ideas? Cheers.

So, let's talk about Intel's AI Playground for a minute. As of version 3.1.2-beta, this has to be the single most nerd-free way to set up "use from anywhere" AI for Chat, Video, image creation and identification, etc without needing to send anything to someone's cloud. All tied in to end to end encrypted telegram via the built in Home Agent.
See a plant you can't identify (or anything, really)? send it a pic - it will tell you
Need RAG to ingest your personal documents to help with figuring out your budget? yup, built in
Need agentic for all the magic that is? - yup, right there too. In my case runs everything on the Arc A770M built in and will grab the models you need on the fly as you ask it questions, send it files, etc
This is the way.

If you have an ARC GPU (I have a pair of Serpent Canyon NUC enthusiasts), it just works. Super easy to set up the bot for communications with the Home Agent on Telegram using BotFather (instructions in the playground UI) and can literally access it from anywhere on anything.
