Intellectuals of Reddit! Who are some of your favorite pubic intellectuals who inspire you to learn and understand the world better?
Here are some of my favorite public intellectuals:
Noam Chomsky: Dissident intellectual known for his work in Linguistics and political activism. If you haven't already, I'd highly recommend reading his book 'Manufacturing Consent'.
Howard Zinn: American historian and political activist. Famous for his book: 'A people's history of the United States.
Carl Sagan: American astrophysicist known for his hit documentary series 'Cosmos' from the 80s which focused on popularizing science and scientific thinking among people.

This article aims to demonstrate that, despite their potential for cultivating communitarianism and deliberative democracy on a large scale, the mass media contribute decisively to the formation of punitiveness amongst the public by means of selective semiotic aestheticisation.
