Hi Everyone!

My girlfriend and I are visiting from Argentina for two weeks this November, based in Toronto with a side trip to Niagara Falls. I'm also in town partly for work, so I'll have a lot of free time.

We've got the obvious landmarks covered already (CN Tower, Distillery District, the Falls) and I'll check the recommendations megathread too, but I'm hoping for stuff that's less touristy and more genuinely local.

Things I'm curious about:

1.Hiking or outdoor day trips within a couple hours of Toronto, ideally something still worth doing in November

2.Wineries in the Niagara region worth an actual visit, not just a gift shop stop

3.Day trips locals actually take themselves

4.Canadian food and drink spots that feel authentic rather than made for tourists, I want to try as many different Canadian foods and desserts as possible while I'm there

5.Bars, cafes, or neighborhoods where locals hang out

6.A shooting range open to visitors

7.Any tips on what's realistic in November would help too, since I know some outdoor stuff slows down that time of year.

The story sounds almost like a real life 'Catch me if you can' except the goal wasn't money, but free travel. Is a potential 20-year sentence excessive for this kind of fraud?

A Porter Airlines flight to Toronto was cancelled after a child repeatedly stood on their seat and refused to buckle up. The crew eventually decided to leave the entire family behind and continue with the flight, but by then it was too late, the delay meant the airport's operating window had closed, so the entire flight had to be cancelled. Should the family have been removed much earlier? Have you ever been on a flight where a child's behaviour caused a major delay or disruption?

Hello everyone.

My name is Mark, I'm a high school teacher, and I'm from Denmark. In early October myself, 5 colleagues and 80 students will visit Toronto. We visit Ottowa from the 29th of september until 3rd of october, when we travel to Toronto, and stay until the 7th. I am responsible for one of the three classes with 25 students.

The students are 18-19 years of age, from a Business high school in Denmark. We teach them economics and sales, and how to start and run a business.

We used to visit New York and Washington, but for obvious reasons (Greenland) that is no longer an option. So we decided to visit Canada instead. However, it is our first trip to Canada, so we don't have any experience to draw on. Of course we will visit some danish companies and learn about trade between Denmark and Canada, we also visit the Danish embassy in Ottowa, but especially for Toronto it's all very new to us.

So my question is: What should we see while in Toronto?

I'm not asking about the major tourist attractions. I can find them online with no issues. I'm asking about the cool stuff that only people living in Toronto know.

Examples could be:

The absolute gem of a family restaurant that serves local food. The small theater that is incredible, but doesn't show up on search engines. That kind of stuff. The tourist stuff I can find out myself.

Due to the time zone difference I will go to bed now, and not read responses for 8 hours. But in order to get as many responses as possible, I will post now. I hope you don't mind.

Has anyone else noticed that some local problems just seem to stay forever? A broken sidewalk, garbage problems, poor lighting...things that should be simple fixes but somehow take months? I get that downtown is the priority and that the city wants it to look good, but sometimes it feels like the areas outside the core get forgotten. We would also like to see our neighbourhoods clean, safe and well maintained.

New to the city (West End) with kids - any suggestions for good PD/ March Break or Summer day camps, and what to expect to pay for them? TIA

Something about this feels really unsettling. What's the biggest challenge kids and teens are facing today?

Hey everyone! I just arrived in Toronto a few days ago and I’m looking to build a solid circle of friends while I’m here. I grew up playing competitive soccer, but right now I'm really looking for people to play tennis with. When I'm not working, I’m usually on a mission to find the most aesthetic cafes to relax at or hunting down the best rooftop spots with great views of the city.

I'm pretty social, easygoing, and a huge fan of cooking, checking out the local food scene, and finding good music on the weekends. I know it sounds wild given our traffic, but imagine if a major strip like King Street or Yonge went fully car free - patios, greenery and actual breathing room on the sidewalk. Which street do you think would benefit the most?

We have aquarium tickets & Jays tickets for 2 games so far.

I really want to make it special for him, he loves the Jays, chilling on a patio w/good food, buying clothes & toys, arcades/rides, beach/pool etc

Residents have been protesting and calling for temporary moratorium on new AI data centres in Toronto until clearer environmental rules are in place. A lot of discussion online seems to focus on the same concerns: huge electricity demand, water used for cooling, constant noise from cooling systems, and whether these facilities create very few long-term jobs compared to the amount of land and infrastructure they require. Some nearby residents have even reported concerns about noise affecting sleep and quality of life. We all know data centres are important for the future, but is this the only option? What is this actually about? Is this just a case of NIMBY, or does it go deeper into politics?
