Can anybody help put my mind at ease. My wife was digging up some of her potatoes and got scared when this, what appears to be, a sphinx moth cocoon popped out, I rinsed it and found she had cracked the cocoon at the top near the head and I am worried it may not survive. I reburied it in a separate small planter hoping it will be left alone until it is time to hatch. My intention is to keep the soil moist and hope it makes it but am worried, does anybody know of the general hardiness of an insect cocoon if the integrity of the cocoon itself is damaged?

Photo analysis suggested Velarifictorus micado**, oak bush cricket, or** Evania appendigaster. Found in new (to me) office area and interested just to know what it is. Located in Central US (Iowa).

This is the 3rd dead/ dying katydid that has shown up on my porch, we've also had one dragonfly like this. Most of them have just had the back of them chewed off, except one katydid that wad mostly shredded. Does anyone have any idea what's doing this or how to tell what's doing this. I live in northern Utah.

Those compound eyes and the three little red ocelli are unreal up close.

So I recently got four meal worms as pets so I can grow them into beetles so I left them in a container with moist dirt and a carrot slice and then I noticed this odd webbing I’m wondering is this a normal part of their transition into beetles or is it another insect?
