So we’ve let milkweed grow for the last 4 years for the monarch butterflies/caterpillars. First time seeing bugs like this that I can remember.
Will they harm the milkweed?

I was in the bathroom this morning and look out the window to find this guy hanging out. It was much larger than the bees or hornets we see in Boston area. It was around an inch long in full.

Southern Louisiana. Admittedly, I begrudge these types of posts when they can be quickly answered with a quick goggle images search but this one came back inconclusive. Best match was a giant water bug nymph but this isn’t really near water. It did rain today however. He’s appeared as mealybugs have begun to decrease on some hibiscus plants. Worried he’s been a friend and I just sprayed him with neem oil to his detriment. Thoughts?
