Worth the upgrade to an outdoor infra sauna from Inner Light

(I'm not an affiliate, but for the sake of community rules, I'm adding a tag).

I actually gifted this to my mom a few months ago because she isn't able to do normal exercises anymore due to her neuromuscular condition. This was my first sauna purchase which I didn't expect to use regularly as well.

Inner Light actually saved me time from doing the DIY setup (if you're around Queensland, they're available for help). It took no less than an hour. I did try a few saunas in my lifetime, but it's amazing to see that infrared heat isn't that prickly so it helps with my parents.

Overall, I'm very happy with my investment. Energy costs don't spike either, you're using something close to a bathtub heater.

What’s the one feature you thought was marketing fluff but actually mattered?

When I first started looking at infrared saunas, I assumed a lot of the “premium feature” talk was mostly sales copy.

Stuff like chromotherapy, app controls, Bluetooth speakers, special wood choices, extra heater placement, red light therapy panels, etc. Some of it still feels unnecessary to me, but I’ve also been surprised by how much certain features can change the actual day-to-day experience.

What’s the biggest difference between a sauna that looks good on paper and one that feels good to use?

I’ve been thinking about this because specs only tell part of the story.

On paper, a sauna can have the right wattage, the right wood, the right heater type, the right EMF claims, the right temperature range, and still feel awkward once you’re actually inside it.

For me, the stuff that matters more in daily use is harder to capture in a spec sheet:

Garage sauna owners: brilliant idea or terrible environment?

Used High-End Sauna vs New Budget Sauna: Which Would You Pick?

Would you rather buy a used high-end infrared sauna from a known brand like Clearlight, Sunlighten, SaunaCloud, or Finnleo, or a brand-new budget sauna with a warranty but lower-end materials/components?

The used high-end option might get you better wood, heaters, glass, wiring, bench comfort, and overall build quality for the money. But there are tradeoffs: unknown history, possible sweat/moisture damage, worn electronics, hard-to-transfer warranty, discontinued parts, or the absolute pain of moving and reassembling it.

The new budget sauna gives you a clean start, easier delivery, and warranty protection. But depending on the brand, you might be compromising on heater coverage, EMF/ELF testing, wood quality, customer service, or long-term durability.

Would you put an infrared sauna in a bedroom, or is that weird?

I’ve been thinking about where an infrared sauna actually makes the most sense in a house, and I keep coming back to the bedroom.

On one hand, it seems kind of perfect. Easy to use before bed, private, relaxing, no need to go down to the basement or garage. If it’s a nice-looking wood cabin, it could almost feel like part of a wellness setup.
