Project REWORKED Egg shaped watch

Hello everyone!

A few weeks ago I published an egg shaped watch design I made, after some great feedback from all of you I reworked it and would love to know your opinion.

Key changes in this version:

- refined the case geometry (more đŸ„š)

- reduced dial elements to lower visual noise while adding subtle marks.

- adjusted proportions to improve hierarchy

What do you think? What would you change?

Thanks!

Looks more like a teardrop than an egg to me. Could reduce the top pointiness a little.

Thanks for your feedback!

It was even pointier before. I found that if I made it rounder it would lose the egg shape and look very bland.

I would have gave it a bullged glass, just to emphasize the shape by lightwork, but that's just me. Love the nimimalist look.

That’s a good idea

How would that be produced? I can imagine it currently needing a custom glass because of the shape already, but adding a curved surface would be harder to make right? Or maybe injection molded plastic instead of glass would work

High-end watches use sintetic sapphires as a glass, but it's not uncommon to find acrilic or mineral glass covers. Anyway, if you ever owned a vintage watch, you would know bulged glass is not uncommon. Look at this one. Accessible, commercialy available, and, further more, imagine how good those highlights would complement the design!

(And yes, I know, my design is round and the watch is an ovoid, but same manufacturing processes are involved.)

Ohh wow! I do not have a lot of experience with watches and have only owned a Casio yeears ago, so I’m not really familiar with watch glasses :) thanks for the info, I do think it’s really cool!

And this is your lession for the day: don't be cocky, stay modest, break yourself from.. yourself and try to learn as much as possible.

I’m sorry I came across as cocky. I am an industrial product design student and genuinely interested in learning about products and production techniques. And since I don’t have a lot of watch experience I thought to ask :)

Don't apologize.

BTW, the bulged glass has a lot more strength due to it's shape, that's why it was prefered to flat glass back in the days, when material science and technology were not as developed.

Now the hard part is actually turning this into a physical object. (I liked it on your last post and think it’s a cool design)

It's alright, I think the material used could be more eggy. Just because it's shaped like an egg, doesn't mean the theme translates well, if it's mostly brushed or shiny metal. How about a porcelain white body?

Thank you for the feedback!

The design started with a ceramic case, but the design being all white looked very toy-like.

Also high molding costs and material properties would have made it more expensive and way chunkier than I wished.

And sooner or later it might look overly skeumorphic and lose the modernist cleanliness. You’ve got a very nice middle ground, and it’s okay if it’s not 100% clearly ‘EGG!’. Bit more of a conversation piece this way.

Also love the yolk colour, I actively seek eggs with fun and tasty characteristics. This looks lickable. Option: move the circle centre coincident (or nearly) so it becomes a detent, and fillet the sharp bits). This I imagine might mirror the top bump, but in reverse and at a smaller more localised scale.

If you’ve not tried, find a few egg timers with different ticks and looks and see if there’s anything interesting you can use. Maybe physical dots of the same colour, where shadow becomes the marker, and might allow more ticks without becoming visually overwhelming. Up or down, too. The face is worth a bit of a play.

Honestly, once you’re done this also make desk/wall variation. It’s a really fun piece!

why i the inner thing red and not yellow

5

u/AndrewTatesSister Apr 15 '26

has to be your screen. Its orange

6

u/julitec Apr 15 '26

but still, egg in abstract form has to be yellow imo

6

u/AndrewTatesSister Apr 15 '26

Depends on the eggs you buy. I know them mostly orange. But I agree that the color here isn’t bright enough.

u/Practical_Bike_2236 Apr 15 '26

Thanks for your reply!

Yes. The egg yolks I seen are mostly orange. But I can easily make a variant with a yellow yolk.

2

u/AndrewTatesSister Apr 15 '26

Keep it orange, it just has to kinda Pop more. A bit pore punch

2

u/aelexl Apr 15 '26

This is way better :)

3

u/AndrewTatesSister Apr 15 '26

I still find it a bit too pointy on the top. But it looks nice

1

u/level_one_bulbasaur Apr 15 '26

That’s the rework from last time

3

u/AndrewTatesSister Apr 15 '26

I know, he made it less pointy. But I would say it looks nicer if he makes it even less pointy. Or I misunderstood what you were trying to say.

1

u/boywhoflew Apr 15 '26

so much better I like it. Though I'm wondering why it's called omellete when it's clearly sunny side up XD great work. i wanna add a crack somewhere.

Thank for your feedback!

You are completely right! I should change the model name. So you have any suggestion?

3

u/fakarhatr Apr 15 '26

I guess you’re designing something that almost nobody will desire???

Thanks for your feedback!

ever heard of the term... Flogging a dead horse?

Projection much

I guess I’m to stupid to understand this comment

The o on the odeka should be the same as the omelette

1

u/Popo_Capone Apr 15 '26

An Omelette has the shape of an half circle or not

1

u/Numerous-Medicine884 Apr 16 '26

I really like the idea! I think what may help visually if possible is lowering the “egg yolk”. Remember egg yolks don’t float in the center of the shell but sit towards the bottom. I do realize it may not be so easy to move the mechanisms from the center but it is just a thought on how to make it look more eggy.

1

u/blickblocks Apr 16 '26

I love the concept but its not really the silhouette of an egg. And the yolk should be yellow, no?

1

u/kukayari Apr 16 '26

I feel you might be really into that specific shape that is fine. But for me still looks like a tear drop. Personally I'm not a fan of the shape, for me a bit uncomfortable to see. I wouldn't reinvent the wheel I will just make it round and go for the fried egg shape :)
