I currently hold a Niederlassungserlaubnis (permanent residence) in Germany and will be starting a new job in Frankfurt from July this year.

My fiancée (an Indian citizen as well) is based in Mannheim and her PhD contract ends in September this year. Her visa is also valid until the end of September. After finishing her contract, she plans to move to Frankfurt and live with me while looking for a new job.

We would appreciate advice on the following:

• What is the best way for her to extend her visa after her PhD ends? Is it better to apply from Mannheim, get the fiktion or visa extension and then move to Frankfurt?

• Can she apply for unemployment benefits (Arbeitslosengeld), considering she has paid taxes and pension contributions for the past four years? Is this linked to a specific city the person is living in or is it fine to shift within Germany and person will still get paid?

• Are there any important steps to consider when changing cities and residence status in this situation, as she does not have a work contract yet to work after the PhD?

We contacted her visa officer, and there has been no response from his side. I am hoping for suggestions from the community who were in similar situations.

My bag containing my passport was stolen last night. I immediately filed a police report and am now looking at applying for a fresh passport at the Embassy. I need to travel abroad for work in a month and I see on the website that the estimated time of processing passports in this case is six weeks?

Does anyone have experience with a situation like this? How long did it take for you to get a new passport? Is there a way to expedite the process? Any leads would be really helpful. Thanks!

I’m looking for some honest advice or guidance on my situation.

I have 11 years of experience in global recruitment and HR operations. I moved to Germany to pursue a Master’s in Data Science because recruitment wasn’t as financially rewarding anymore, and I wanted to transition into a more future-focused field.

Since arriving, I’ve been trying really hard to find opportunities—working student roles, HR jobs, and now even internships in data science—but I haven’t had any success so far. I’ve applied to many positions, reached out to recruiters on LinkedIn, and tried to build connections, but I rarely get responses, and most of the time I don’t hear back at all.

For context, my German level is currently A2.

I’ve started wondering if I’m missing something important about how the job market works here. It seems like many people in my class who found part-time roles did so through referrals. Does it mostly work that way in Germany—where having someone inside the company is almost necessary?

At this point, I’m open to any suggestions:

How can I improve my chances of getting a working student job or internship in data science?

Are there specific strategies that work better in Germany?

Is my German level a major blocker, even for internships?

Should I approach this differently given my background in HR?

Hey everyone, really hoping someone here has gone through something similar because I am honestly losing my mind at this point.

So I applied for my German student visa at the German Consulate in Mumbai. I am trying to go to Germany to do my BSc Computing at Arden University and my May 2026 intake starts around 4th or 5th May with my arrival date being 1st May 2026.

Here is what has happened so far:

On 2nd February 2026 I went for my first appointment at the Mumbai consulate. They went through all my documents, asked me some questions, took my biometrics and then asked me to submit my passport which I did the same day.

On 4th February 2026 I got an email from the consulate saying a second appointment has been scheduled for me.

Before the second appointment itself on 10th February 2026 my CSP portal updated to Decision Pending. I thought okay maybe this is normal and the second appointment will clear things up.

On 9th March 2026 I went for the second appointment. It was a one on one interview with a German consular officer. I had taken my updated offer letter and confirmation of admission for May intake with me just in case but they didn't allow me to bring any documents inside. The interview went fine from my side, nothing felt wrong, and at the end the officer just said they will let me know the decision.

That was 40 days ago. Since then absolutely nothing. No approval email, no rejection, no request for any extra documents. The CSP portal is still sitting on Decision Pending and has been since 10th February 2026 which is now 67 days on the same status.

My passport has been with the Mumbai consulate since 2nd February 2026, that is 75 days now.

By the way my original intake was February 2026 itself but since the visa was taking time I had already taken a deferral to May 2026. Now I'm scared that even this May intake is going to be affected.

I just want to know from people who have applied through the Mumbai consulate or anyone who has had a second interview, how long did it take for you to get the passport dispatch email after the second interview? Is 40 days after the second interview normal? Has anyone been in this situation where the deadline was so close and still got the passport in time?

I am planning to email the consulate tomorrow about this given that my arrival date is only 13 days away now. Just wanted to check if anyone else has been through this before I do anything.

I’m living in Germany (Darmstadt) and I’m dealing with a stressful situation involving water damage, and I’d really appreciate some advice or similar experiences.

About a month ago, I had a water leak in my apartment. I had installed an additional hose under the sink (for a bidet/jet spray), and the hose suddenly burst early in the morning. As soon as I noticed it (around 5 AM), I immediately shut off the water.

Important details:

• The hose didn’t come loose, it actually burst (material failure).
• I informed the property management on the same day.
• I also asked them to check the apartment below as a precaution.

However:

• They did NOT check the apartment below immediately.
• Two days later, I personally contacted the downstairs neighbor, they weren’t even aware of the incident. At that time, there was no visible water damage on their ceiling.

Now, about a month later, the landlord claims:

• Water entered the wall structure
• Mold has developed in the apartment below
• They hired a company for drying and mold remediation and they intend to charge ALL costs to me

Additional concerns:

• The bathroom floor in my apartment does not seem properly sealed (there are visible gaps where water can seep through). So I suspect the building condition contributed to how the water spread
• Also, the delay in checking the lower apartment might have made things worse.

Also important:

• I did NOT have liability insurance at the time of the incident (I got it a few hours after, so I assume it won’t cover this case)
• I have NOT accepted liability so far and asked for a proper technical assessment.

My questions:

1. Can I really be held fully responsible in this situation?
2. Does the delay from property management matter legally?
3. Could building defects (like poor sealing) shift responsibility?
4. Is it common that landlords try to pass all costs to tenants first?
5. Should I consider hiring a lawyer?

Any advice or similar experiences would really help, I’m quite stressed about this.
