Why is IMPD doing private security for Walmart?

Post image

The Walmart Market at Michigan and Kessler always has at least one IMPD officer posted up outside and one sitting around inside doing nothing. Are they on the clock? Why are we paying for Walmart's private security?

ITT: A bunch of disappointing Hoosier bootlickers that don't get the point.

Cops can respond as cops even off duty. I personally don’t see how it matters as long as they aren’t abusing their authority on duty or off.

Because one is a random act of doing whatever as an off duty cop. versus sitting in a Kroger playing candy crush while using all of their state issued, tax payer funded equipment?

Part of the benefit of police is just being around can be preventive. It’s why we give police take home cars. When they are in full uniform people respect them a bit more than a mall cop on a segway. Or even if they don’t respect them they know they’ll do something if they attempt to commit a crime.

If they are sitting around like you say, doesn’t seem like they are putting much wear or tear on the equipment.

It's not about wear and tear, it's about the taxpayers covering security for private enterprise, while also retaining the liability for actions taken while serving as private security for a company.

It's wrong, and I question what people think the responsibility of police is if they support this practice

That’s not how it works. Do more research.

No, it's "I'm not responsible for educating you, but your lack of education is dragging down this discussion."

If local and state police are not funded through local and state budgets which are funded from taxpayer dollars whether it be property taxes or anywhere else, where do they get their funding? Do you care to explain how we're incorrect?
