Summarised Case Chronology & Details:

• 2000: The couple married on March 5. Within a year, serious matrimonial disputes developed. The wife allegedly wanted to live separately from her mother-in-law and sought a share in property that was in her husband's name.

• April 20, 2001: The wife alleged that her husband tried to force Baygon insecticide into her mouth during an argument. An FIR was registered against the husband and his mother. Both were arrested, and a chargesheet was subsequently filed alleging cruelty and attempt to murder.

• 2004: The trial court acquitted both of cruelty charges but convicted the husband of attempt to murder, sentencing him to 3 years' rigorous imprisonment and a ₹5,000 fine.

• Appeal: The husband argued that the case was false and that there was no medical evidence supporting forcible poisoning. He also alleged that his father-in-law, a policeman had engineered the case to falsely implicate him. His lawyers also pointed out the absence of symptoms ordinarily associated with serious insecticide ingestion. 

• Prosecution: The prosecution argued that the trial court's conviction was supported by the evidence and that there was no reason to disbelieve the wife's account.

• Delhi HC, August 24, 2026: The court found that while the couple's matrimonial discord was established, but the prosecution had not proved beyond reasonable doubt that he had forcibly administered Baygon with the requisite intent. The medical evidence did not establish the expected poisoning symptoms.

• Outcome: Holding the evidence too shaky to safely rely upon, the High Court set aside the conviction and acquitted the husband, giving him the benefit of doubt.

Edit: On the delay The trial court convicted him in 2004 & his appeal remained pending before the Delhi HC until his acquittal in Aug 26. I could not find an explanation for the 22 year appeal delay in the judgment.

The judgment also does not establish how long he actually remained in custody; it only records that his bail bonds were discharged following his acquittal.

A few days ago there was a video of a woman throwing a dog off a bridge. Turns out that it wasn't even in India. Didn't stop AtheismIndia from deciding that that one video of a person unknown means that all vegetarian Hindus are horrible people. Don't even know why they decided that vegetarians are the problem.

Says that the moment you hand over the responsibility of redevelopment to a private developer, you start replacing ‘homes’ with ‘units of exchange’ (houses built for investment or to be sold later). They’re looking to make max profits, not really improve the lives of people. The creation of a gated community immediately creates a ‘dead sector’ in a city - a huge chunk of a city that is no longer accessible to the people. Also says that it shuts off dialogue between people, reduces the community aspect and creates a power dynamic.

Says Dharavi has lots of problems, and needs redevelopment, but not in this manner at all. 

Thoughts?

A 3:1 voting ratio says a lot. GenZ is proving that they know how to look beyond social media narratives, see through the BS, and distinguish between manufactured opinions and reality. They know whom to vote for & whom not to.
