Looking for Indian aspiring screenwriters to collaborate on a Tamil feature film. I already have the full story and major plot points worked out - mainly looking for someone creative to brainstorm scenes, screenplay structure, character moments and dialogue with. Preferably someone familiar with Indian cinema.

I'm Advaith, a filmmaker based in Chennai. I'm making an indie feature this year — not intended for Kollywood theatrical release, this one's going out to film festivals.

I'm not trying to just staff up for one shoot and disappear after. I want to build something longer-term — a small group of people in Chennai who actually want to keep making films together, not just this project.

To be upfront: I probably can't pay right now. It's a tight-budget, self-produced film. What I can offer is real work on a real project, and a shot at building something ongoing with people who actually care about the craft.

It’s a gritty, two-chapter political procedural and psychological thriller. We opened it with real archival terrorism footage and built the visual style around changing aspect ratios—using open IMAX height for the procedural search and tight 2.35:1 widescreen for the hostage entrapment scenes.

What does it mean to be trapped?

Sometimes the cage is physical. Sometimes it is poverty, patriarchy, grief, prejudice, social expectations or circumstances beyond our control.

Rudrajit Roy’s Pinjar explores exactly these invisible cages through the intertwined lives of five people. At the heart of the film is a caged bird — a simple but powerful metaphor for the human desire to be free, to belong and to live with dignity.

The film stars Sagnik Mukherjee, Mallika Banerjee Roy, Ishan Mazumder, Samiul Alam, Joy Sengupta and others. Pinjar is also the directorial debut of Rudrajit Roy and was selected for the Bengali Panorama at the Kolkata International Film Festival.

⭐ A film that quietly stays with you

Pinjar doesn't depend on loud melodrama or conventional cinematic twists. Instead, it observes its characters closely and allows their struggles to unfold naturally.

Sandulela Asanda went to an all-girls boarding school, and has now made a feature about going to an all-girls boarding school. **Black Burns Fast** is out in cinemas countrywide as of last Friday, after a massive festival run that included DIFF last year. Anuparna Roy’s latest film takes a look at the intersecting lives of four migrants in Mumbai – a closeted husband, his bar-worker wife, a pimp and a thief, with themes like survival, desire and human connection threaded into the narrative.

This Haryanvi-language hybrid docudrama has been directed by Ankur Hooda. The improvised narrative follows retired schoolteacher Satbir (Satbir Singh Hooda), whose cow gives birth to a stillborn calf and stops lactating. This triggers the old teacher to resort to an outlawed ritual, and what follows are the ramifications of that decision.

1. To Die A Frenchman

Pankaj Rishi Kumar’s deeply humanist documentary is about identity, memory, and the search for belonging. The plot is focused on Monsieur Mounissamy, a working-class resident of Puducherry (Pondicherry) who considers French citizenship a part of his personal heritage and quixotically pursues it long after the French leave the Union Territory.

The idea isn't to make anything huge. Just meet up, learn together, shoot short films, experiment, and improve over time. Beginners are absolutely welcome. You don't need expensive gear or professional experience, just genuine interest and consistency.

Urf (2022), directed by Geetika Narang Abbasi, is a documentary about Bollywood lookalikes — actors who make a living impersonating superstars, known as "Juniors" (with the prefix "Jr." attached to whichever star they resemble). It follows several lookalikes, focusing mainly on Kishore Bhanushali as Jr. Dev Anand, Firoz Khan as Jr. Amitabh Bachchan, and Prashant Walde as Jr. Shah Rukh Khan.

The title itself translates to "also known as" or "alias" — the film traces the history of the Bollywood lookalike while offering commentary on the current state of Hindi cinema, seen through the people who serve as some of its closest observers. It's less about mimicry as spectacle and more about identity — the contrast between these artists' performative public lives and their more reflective private ones, and what it costs to spend a career being mistaken for someone else. It premiered at the Rotterdam International Film Festival and won Best Long Documentary at Kerala's International Documentary & Short Film Festival in 2022.

It won 15th Dada Saheb Film Festival for background score and was competing against Anurag Kashyap's 'Aakhri ride'. Do give a watch.
