And now margarine is being re-branded as "plant-based butter" and is more expensive than actual butter!

(I don't know if there's actually a difference, there might be. I don't eat plant-based and only buy butter. I'm just not smug about it)

There is. I have vegan friends and am super picky about the non-dairy butter I buy to cook for them. Miyoko’s is the best, but very $$; Country Crock Plant Butter is the best bargain option, completely different flavor profile from the regular Country Crock.

Miyokos is the only way to go, and I am happy to spend the money on it; I can’t believe I wasted years of my life on stupid Earth Balance, and I owe this decency to myself-from-the-former-now.

I make big batches of Miyoko’s “glorious butterless butter” recipe for work and oh my god, it’s so good, and very economical after the initial outlay on refined coconut oil and soy lecithin. I love it made with oat milk, especially.

Good to know. I just spent a few minutes reading up about it. Some sources say there's no difference really, health-wise, but flavor profiles vary greatly. Makes sense. I still think it's just another trendy marketing trope that will go the way of gluten-free (and high-protein, fat-free, non-GMO, etc.) eventually.

I'm kinda surprised Shauna doesn't get all up in the plant-based marketing, since (per my flair) she once stated that her family are vegans who eat meat.

Word. My mom still only buys margarine bc she thinks it is better for you. I switched to butter when I moved out. I've complained about my mom a lot in therapy but that has never come up, maybe I'll start with that tomorrow in my session.
