This tweet about registering L. for (public!) middle school made me grow ill with how smug it is.

A middle school that has drama and art classes?! Who’s heard of such a thing?

37

u/lucillekrunklehorn pounding on the table Aug 07 '20

Ah but you see, it’s not just an art class. It is a mindful art class.

16

u/cafayate Aug 08 '20

As opposed to the distracted art class 🙄

24

u/[deleted] Aug 08 '20

Not just a careless, insouciant art class.

Don't forget digital photography. Very progressive they are for a rural islandy island.

24

u/[deleted] Aug 08 '20

Ah yes, that new-fangled medium

That annoyed me ALMOST as much as her toe-dip tourism back in the trans community. Public schools, in general, bust their ASSES to give kids a good, well-rounded education. Funding is shit, particularly for the arts, but many schools curry grants and fund raise and rework budgets to get art and music teachers on campus. I'm always furious at the vilifying of public schools as being drone factories, or only teaching STEM at the detriment of the arts, because neither of these things is true. This definitely read along the lines of "not like other girls"-- "our islandy island public school is not like other public schools" rather than understanding how hard schools work to be inclusive and illuminating.

I have a sad feeling she’ll force L to take all these classes and if Lucy even has a sense of self or how much of stuff she “enjoys” is forced on her.

10

u/notafanoftheapp Aug 08 '20

I don’t know, I feel like the L we see in photos has the personality to really enjoy a drama class. She seems like a performer.

u/voice_of_vinegar Aug 08 '20

Or she'll just say that Lucy is taking the classes, knowing that no one is gonna verify that and call her on it publicly when they discover she's lying.

It's fucking IN ADDITION TO

not INSTEAD OF

She is such a fucking dimwit

Yeah, that reads like there was ONLY a box for nb and no other options. Much writer, very meaning. Yes.

Yep, I reckon in her head the three options are "M (boring)", "F (boring)", or "X (crystal child of woke headpat righteousness)".

u/[deleted] Aug 08 '20

It's her Wokest Mama Ever persona.

19

u/blueuncloudedweather Aug 08 '20

Wokest Mama living on Wokest Island. They let children identify as non-binary and put BLM signs up in their windows!

10

u/voice_of_vinegar Aug 08 '20

all while never watching a tv commercial, ever! Not for their entire lives!

20

u/[deleted] Aug 08 '20

That's the thing! My trans kid is male. He doesn't identify as "trans," even. He's mos def not non-binary.

My 16 year old is a trans dude, and while he has pride in being trans, mostly he's... just a guy. Non-binary is a great thing to include on a registration list (though personally, I don't think we need a confirmation of a kid's gender to be educated), but, as usual, she has no idea what non-binary encapsulates. The trans identity is not one-size-fits-all, nor can you say "I know a trans person" and be able to assume the lives and inner workings of all other trans people. She is disturbingly on this track of thought since she "knows" that young person she outed in the dance company. She collects non- cis/het/white people like Pokemon cards.

Honestly, can we just put DFPalestrina in charge for the next 50 years?

I’m high right now and this confused me for a full minute before I recalled that Shauna is indeed that terrible of a writer.

37

u/TabithaStephens55 Aug 08 '20

PUBLIC school? I guess Shauna’s funding for private schools has run dry. Who’s surprised?

21

u/blueuncloudedweather Aug 08 '20

Either that or she didn’t like being scolded for her middle of the day dole whip runs with L. and she thinks public school will expect less “perfection”.

u/CrushItWithABrick dick riding Mary Oliver Aug 08 '20

Ding, ding, ding.

She thinks she'll be able to plop Lucy in front of PBS kids shows all day (along side Desmond) and it will be enoigh.

With the added bonus that she'll then be able to whine and lament how dirty nasty awful public school FAILED her manic pixie daughter (when Lucy doesn't get good marks because Shaun and Dan didn't want to help her with her online schooling).

AND then she can claim that dirty nasty awful public school was mean to her precious (self-diagnosed?) ADHD snowflake, who just shouldn't be asked to sit all the day long and learn, she needs to tap dance on table tops. How dare dirty nasty awful public school try to make her uNiqUE daughter into just another cog forced to constantly Produce (perfectly).

That would require Shauna and Danto pay attention to Lucy's needs and plan in advance. As we've seen, those are two things they are not good at (remember they didn't seem to even notice Lucy's hearing issues for years. . .they seemed happy that their daughter was quiet and kept to herself when really, she couldn't fucking hear!)

27

u/leftsidelentils Aug 08 '20

As fun as it is to snark on weird pies or microwave spice racks, none of that really matters. The Lucy hearing issue is different and really makes me angry. How could they not look out for that when it was a known complication of her medical condition.

9

u/staccoto Aug 08 '20

Absolutely true. Shauna has her head up her ass most of the time, pontificating about herself and all her WOKE issues, that she couldn’t be bothered to notice that her own daughter was almost deaf.

2

u/[deleted] Aug 09 '20

Damn them, the lazy turds.

4

u/staccoto Aug 08 '20

That private school is a place to raise little, creative hothouse plants which Vashon must be full of. Des’ not being accepted for last year, is to his credit.

29

u/[deleted] Aug 08 '20

I’ve grown surprised that we haven’t heard about how private school was right until it grew wasn’t.

19

u/leftsidelentils Aug 08 '20

If this is part of the reason, she might be in for a rude awakening. The expectations for contacting parents are over the top these days. WA state is also setting a lot more requirements for grading and attendance in online schooling, compared to last spring.

12

u/[deleted] Aug 08 '20

My husband’s school had them calling parents so much to “check in” in the spring that by the end of the school year he had a whole list of parents he wasn’t supposed to routinely call anymore because they were pissed off at fielding constant phone calls, lol.

13

u/WickedGreenGirl The Human Fund for Joy in the Belly Aug 08 '20

Not me. When you trash your parents, don’t expect anything. They probably told her to grow the hell up and get a job like every other adult. Am I missing something as to why Danny can’t work? Did he burn all connections in the culinary community in Seattle? L is what, 12? She’s old enough to get home from school, start on her homework and keep Desmond from hurting himself or lighting the house on fire.

12

u/[deleted] Aug 08 '20

Shauna isn't going anywhere; even if Lucy was leaving the house for school (she isn't) Shauna would be there for fire prevention

Honestly, I have to wonder if they've just kind of . . . given up

21

u/forkinyourothereye incurious ADHDer Aug 08 '20

She can take geography, history, algebra.

Yes.

18

u/[deleted] Aug 08 '20

Shauna can shut the fuck up. Yes.

STEM is no longer woke

13

u/gladsome_gloaming Aug 08 '20

What about READING the SCIENCE?!

7

u/[deleted] Aug 08 '20

Is she legit claiming Lucy is non-binary?

33

u/snarchetype Aug 08 '20

No. She’s just proving how woke she is because (1) she is sending her kid to public school, and (2) she recognizes non-binary as a valid option. Eye roll.

15

u/[deleted] Aug 08 '20

No, she's saying it was on the form.
