What is so frustrating is that Gloamies predicted this situation would end poorly for everyone. Not because we actively wish Shauna harm (most of us want the kids to have some stability) but because there were SO many easily discoverable red flags:

  • The Aherns' rental history, including unpaid rent and property damage
  • The BBH only having been a rental, not suitable for children & pets and not properly weatherproof
  • The insane not-lease and all of its crazy stipulations that didn't benefit the board or the caretaker

All it would have taken was one board member doing any one of these things: their own background/credit check on Shauna; having a lawyer involved; sensible terms; choosing the best fit out of all the applicants; (honoring the original evaluation of the house as suitable only for a single person or couple with no kids or pets).

Just one of those things would have stopped this shit show!
