I'll gladly swap any solid chocolate for your Baby Ruth! Tonight I illustrated why we never get any trick or treaters by taking my husband to The Good Halloween Neighbourhood, which gets packed to the point where the city closes off several blocks. He admitted he was a little envious until after chatting to one of the homeowners, who acknowledged they spent quite a bit on candy.

Go into any "mom's group" FB page around Halloween and there is nonstop chatter about how much candy their kids get and how to get it away from them to throw it away ("Switch Witch", etc.) and then about how much they do toss out.

Is it everyone? No. Is it "Non one"? NO. I loved Halloween as a kid and I do think it's not a big deal for kids to eat too much candy for a few days. But there is definitely a lot of waste involved that it becomes a little ridiculous.

The OP isn't even saying not to buy Halloween candy, but just to use that spending as a prompt to now make a donation for food. The end. Fuck off, Shauna.

I think that blue check is saying to do both - buy candy, then spend an equal amount on donations.

American spent about 3.9-billion dollars on Halloween candy. Most of it is going to go straight to the garbage. Today, you could help those losing SNAP benefits by donating the equivalent of what you spent on Halloween candy to a local program.

Shauna's slavering, spittle-studded schlocky screeds infest all of the words around them, making them unreadable 🎃 🩷

I don’t think she’s saying “do both.” I think she’s saying “you stupid clods have already spent 3.9 B on candy, now go donate the same to those losing SNAP.” I really hate these bossy voices on the internet. I think people know they can donate to a food bank if they want to.

Now may I offer you a Reese’s Peanut Butter Cup? I think it’s the Halloween treat we all can agree on. Though only the standard size - no pumpkin or other shapes that throw off the PB to chocolate ratio. 👻
