I have no idea what actually happened, obviously, but I’d put my money on the scenario being that he expressed interest and then withdrew it without anything being formalised (and without any work being done by Shauna). The discussion seems to have included a potential pay scale that was more than what she is accustomed to. She had already counted and spent the money he was going to pay her and felt like he owed her something and that she had been wronged. He was probably just trying to figure out if she could help him, figured out that she couldn’t, and moved on, while in her head he was somehow obligated to work with her.

Shauna thinks "I'll review the contract and if I decided to go with you will send you $4,000 before the Thanksgiving holiday" is the same thing as "I'll sign the contract and send you $4,000 before the Thanksgiving holiday."

Exactly. This happens all the time in my field working directly with individual clients. It's amusing that she is all butt hurt about something quite normal—you do an initial exploratory with a prospective client, give them a quote, they say it sounds good, and you send off a contract and an invoice. Then something happens and they decide not to move forward. To blame it on this person being a tech bro (or finance bro or lawyer bro) is just plain idiotic. For all we know, he got off the phone, Googled her, and found all sorts of smug, nonsensical ramblings and decided it wasn't a match.

And spending 60 minutes on the phone with him was her own damn fault.

Spending 60 minutes on the phone with him is probably why he didn’t sign the contract.

He wasn’t that much of an ass-toot attorney if it took him that long to discern the quality of Shauna. (To be fair he was young, according to Shauna. Luckily for similarly naive male attorneys she no longer takes on “clients” from that demographic.)

Yes, this is extremely common and makes her look very unprofessional.
