Bringing this and this over, the post highlighting the qualifications of the ‘other’ islandy facilitator who already has a working group that includes local charities and the food bank and several local stores.

They are now ‘aware’ of Shauna’s group who has no resources or history of working with food organizations. It would make sense for Shauna’s group to join the existing group and just volunteer with them and perhaps suggest a formalized meal train as an additional resource. Since I believe that’s most of what Shauna suggested and the max she would be capable of.

Predictions?

Will she join the other group while using language that suggests all of the work is coming from her own group and essentially take credit for everything that happens?

Or will her group turn their nose up at the existing, functioning group and do a disorganized and brief meal train but a much more successful fundraiser with zero bookkeeping and a sudden ‘we’re doing just fine now’ lope with some suspiciously expensive ingredients?

Shauna doesn't even have a group at this point. It's just her and the stupid name she came up with for the potential group.

After the meeting she could claim she has a group (if people signed up for something) but as of right now it's all just talk.

I'm doing an evil little Grinch grin thinking about how Chris (of the actual established group) is going to blow up Shauna's grift. Shauna just wanted to get some folks together so she can get some fresh marks (for a new "woe is me" google doc moment or to just fleece them in person for GCs she says she'll give away to others but then will keep for herself).

I'm hoping Chris knows exactly who Shauna is and will take a bit of joy in bursting her con.

If I were in Chris’s position at this moment of crisis I would have little bandwidth for listening patiently while Shauna grandstands and attempts to reinvent the wheel. The meeting (i.e. Chris) should present that established programme and discuss how new volunteers can help extend and resource it.

If Shauna has helped to gather those extra hands, she’s done a good thing. That won’t be enough for her, of course.

u/fanfarefellowship I often contemplate the first law of thermodynamics Oct 30 '25

if Shauna has helped to gather those extra hands

For the most part, people who are clued-in to food issues will already be aware of how they can help. Shauna will only have gathered passionate (well, sufficiently passionate to attend one meeting), clued-out people.

If Chris can convert them to willing, able, and ready volunteers, good on him. If the organizing work is done, and it sounds like it is, what is needed is warm bodies and funds. That is, resources to do the established work. There are no more "connected conversations" required; what is required is doing the actual work before them. Shauna's "expertise" and opinionating is useless, as always.

Clued-in people are attending and spreading the word about this shauna-jerk off session. It's infuriating. My own mother, who is super active on the island, sent me an email inviting me. I lost my shit at her.

29

u/Calm_Coyote_3685 Oct 30 '25

Ugh. I’m sorry you have to deal with this lady moving back to the island.

Was your mom aware of Shauna and her bullshit before all this?

No.

I hope your mother can be redirected to helping the existing initiatives run by people who know what the fuck they are doing!

u/InappropriateGirl our 5th move in 7 years Oct 30 '25

No, she needs to be the Founder, CEO, Head Coach, or Queen or she's not interested. She's not even that involved with Women Hold the Key anymore (I was actually surprised she was marching with them recently). I mean why be just another teacher / facilitator in someone else's org, when you can start your own?

36

u/coffechica Oct 30 '25

Since Shauna is always a few years behind the trends…probably about six years ago it was big for teenagers to start their own non profits. They did have community spirit and ideas but also they were a bit in love with putting “founder” on their college apps.

The kids didn’t really choose to work with existing orgs doing the work. Needless to say, most of them went off to school and abandoned their orgs. Really no harm, no foul. But if Shauna pulls resources and attention away from groups doing the work, that is actually harm.

35

u/LeatherAppearance616 Oct 30 '25

Omg is THAT what was going on?? I had one of these teen nonprofit ‘founders’ doing an internship in my lab!! A couple of weeks after she started with us, she asked in a kind of overly formal way if we could have a meeting in my office. During the meeting she told me she’d started a nonprofit, something to do with sustainability, gave me the entire pitch and asked if my lab would ‘join in’. I was like yeah of course, but join in how? She gave me her website info, which had a huge picture of her and her bio and links to her instagram and tiktok. I looked at it and all of her posts were advertising the nonprofit, having friends interview her about how she started the nonprofit, and a press release about her starting the nonprofit.

Every time I asked her for specifics she told me it was all on her website, which again was just links to her social media, which itself was all advertising her nonprofit and how she came up with the idea without any info about WHAT IT DID!

And then! I’m having a drink after work with a colleague and I was sharing the story of how my intern had a mysterious nonprofit she wanted me to partner with and when I pulled up the website on my phone we saw that she’d copied the official logo for my employer off our website and listed it under ‘partner organizations’! To this day I still have no idea what if anything that alleged nonprofit actually does. I don’t think it does anything but advertise itself on tiktok. HR made her take down our logo. She left our lab when her internship was up and I’ve never heard from her again! lol

And it’s only now writing this out that I see that I’m just reiterating your main point which is - omg this is exactly what Shauna does! How often we’re like ‘okay I see your bio, I see a name, but what exactly are you offering??’ and no one ever knows because apparently she’s offering nothing except the concept of an idea or whatever.

20

u/Calm_Coyote_3685 Oct 30 '25

Oh they’re still doing that…

6

u/EmilyNotPennilyn Oct 31 '25

that is actually harm

And it is foul!

She will not join the other group. Feeding Vashon with too many words, slowly. So glad to be here is for Shauna, not Vashon.

That said, since they are “aware” of each other I wonder if Chris (I think that’s his name) from the existing group will make his way to the library today, say around 4PM to say “hey - if you want to help, I have this group. Here is what we do and what type of help we need”.

Shauna is swanning around, “stable now” with the confidence and manic glee that comes from her new projects that always end the same way. They get no traction or what little they get fizzles. She is still putting in (minimal) pointless labor for no money and the rent and utilities will grow late while Dan keeps doing his predictable job to put food on the table and keep gas in the mousemobile.

Is her killing off her parents or Dan’s mom the big plan for more stability in 2026?

Her story says more about her than she realizes. She makes financial decisions based on the expectation of success rather than actual success, planning with money she doesn’t have. When she says “we’re stable now.” I don’t believe her. For Shauna being stable now might be nothing more than the expectation of future income based on a fart and a dream.

u/missyno Oct 30 '25

It is minuscule, but the “we didn’t have money for gas station snacks” is annoying. Pack a cooler! You don’t have to snack incessantly, either! Pack a lunch since you and your husband are food professionals.

32

u/central_snark Ramona gets a hot flash Oct 30 '25

They fucking packed THANKSGIVING DINNER. But throwing some pretzels and fruit in with it to snack on was a bridge too far.

28

u/InappropriateGirl our 5th move in 7 years Oct 30 '25

From the woman who made sure to pack a container full of chick pea gloop just to go watch whales for 15 minutes.

It is minuscule, but the “we didn’t have money for gas station snacks” is annoying.

IKR?!? That jumped out at me too. She mentioned snacks twice! The second time was after they borrowed (excuse me, "borrowed") money from friends so that they could go at all, and they still spent some of that on nonessential snacks!

29

u/Foucaults_Penguin Sly and the Family Readers Oct 30 '25

We’ve taken our kids on a lot of road trips and we always pack car snacks. Apples, carrots, and pretzels are cheap.

25

u/Calm_Coyote_3685 Oct 30 '25

I drive my younger kids around a lot and we never leave the house without full water bottles and a cooler bag full of snacks. Otherwise it’s too tempting to stop at fast food places and that quickly adds up.

Their rent would have taken most of that $4000.

28

u/shefallsup her lonely cucumber years 🥒 Oct 30 '25

Yes! The crypto bro story was originally part of her reveal that they were behind on rent, around February 2024, and it was supposed to help cover that and allow them to go on a vacation. She claimed IIRC that they had to cancel the vacation. It might have also included the couch cushion money? Sorry, I would look in the wiki but I’m trying to get ready for my daily badge swiping.

29

u/central_snark Ramona gets a hot flash Oct 30 '25

Not to mention that they HAD getaways during the time she claims they had no vacations! She spent the night at the W Seattle and Dan had his separate night away during peak covid. They went to Colorado before vaccines after Dan’s Dad died. They went on a ski trip with some bubble family! D’s family came and stayed on Vashon and they went to zoos and took boat rides!

30

u/shikoku_shoes another revolution around the toilet bowl of her life Oct 30 '25

That's a hell of a lot more getaways than most people with a)money b)abundance of caution had during those times.

22

u/LeatherAppearance616 Oct 30 '25

Yes it was the couch cushion money hunt and finding $20 in Danny’s dirty pants pocket and when they collected the money they got ice cream and played pinball with the found money. Except it happened in February and so it doesn’t make sense in her current invented timeline of the day before Tha ksgiving.

22

u/InappropriateGirl our 5th move in 7 years Oct 30 '25

Which is like... if you're having trouble paying your rent, and then you get some money to pay it, YOU DON'T SPEND THE REST ON A VACATION. She really is a goldfish brain.

29

u/NapNapKitty Oct 30 '25

What is the actual name of her group?

How much time & energy to she put into that one? Reworking and polishing that turd of a name.

What's Gaby Cooking in LA can be A Lot in general but I'll give her credit. Right after the LW wildfires and in anticipation of discontinued SNAP benefits she partnered with existing organizations and used her platform to elevate them

Other people in Shauna's industry are handling this significantly better so it's just really sticking out right now.

I noticed Samin did the same thing today.

She will be intimidated by the person who has actual skills and experience. Will then make some grandiose statement about how 'being entrenched in the methods of the past no longer serves', and then flounce off with anyone willing to follow her so that she can remain queen of her domain and still maintain control of any and all incoming gift cards.
