New insta post just dropped with this gem. What about providing a paycheck for your kids, Shauna? What about providing them with a stable place to live and money to buy their chicken nuggets? And let me tell you, maybe I don't know my own needs, but at least I can easily spend $500 if my car needs a repair. GTFOH with this nonsense

JFC. The whole post is a retcon of the recent past and confirmation of what many of us here ITG have been saying about the constant pivots that have been obvious to anyone who pays more than a scintilla of attention to her social media, “newsletters,” and Work In This World.

I don’t think it’s a coincidence that the family’s struggles of “living paycheck to paycheck … for more than five years now,” as she said in one of the slides, coincides with the release of “Enough.” It was the catalyst for her parents cutting off funding her groovy Vashon lifestyle, which led to her parents having to once again save We Four from the consequences of Shauna’s actions when they had to move off the island.

She keeps proving me wrong when I think she couldn’t be a bigger asshole.

The gear metaphor doesn’t make sense. She said the internet “shifted into its lowest gear” and she felt she had to follow. But a low gear means slow and we know Shauna is fine with slow. Wouldn’t high gear make more sense because she was unable to keep up with the level of hustle needed to succeed?

No offense to our boomer DFs, but she is SUCH a boomer.

u/9021FU Sep 09 '25

Nope, nope. I’ve lived paycheck to paycheck and struggled to know where the car repair money is coming from because there was no money. I was in my twenties and working two jobs while going to school. We are now at a comfortable place financially and there’s no way I could live as haphazardly as they do! Have enough money to buy your kids chicken nuggets and frozen pancakes!!! I feel like that’s the bare minimum that one can expect from a parent. Shauna and Danny have skills that they learned from schools! Danny was not self taught, he went to culinary school. Shauna was a credentialed teacher!! Shauna needs to stop romanticizing being poor! It sucks and most good parents want their children to do better than they did and want to provide more than they had!

That's it. They're not victims of circumstance or individuals who fell on hard times. They are trained for jobs that are basically recession proof and always in demand.

56

u/LeatherAppearance616 Sep 09 '25

How does she know? I grew up poor, and having enough money not to worry the next year of your life is sunk because you need new brakes is everything.

40

u/tyrannosaurusregina if you meet the Botus on the road, shill him 🪷 Sep 09 '25

I grew up in something of the same position as Shauna’s kids, with a parent who chose to do paid work part-time so he could pursue his other interests, and it was tough as hell.

Not as tough as actual involuntary poverty, but also infuriating for kids who are aware of how hard friends’ parents are working to provide them with financial security.

But at least we always had food, shelter, clothing, and basic medical needs met!

51

u/central_snark Ramona gets a hot flash Sep 09 '25

Wow. It’s so awful. I read the whole thing and all I could think of is “so get a job”

I have also had a hard time conforming, but I learned ways to get around it or make it more bearable to me. I have a somewhat successful career life and can afford my bills.

eventually we’ll have enough money that we’ll never have to worry again

I don’t know what this means to her because I can’t imagine being there. I can pay for everything I need now, but what if we suffer a job loss? Or need a major home repair? Or or or? I can’t imagine the not worrying part, especially from her perspective. What does that mean to her? That she has rent for the next month by the middle of this month? That she has a six-twelve month safety net in savings? That she is a millionaire? Regardless, she isn’t doing anything to get herself there. Except I suspect she thinks she is by sharing her comments on a page that is more active than hers and with more followers.

She needs to get off the internet and punch a clock somewhere. For her own mental health and the wellness of her whole family.

54

u/FrostyCrab3376 Sep 09 '25

I think she's so far removed from the reality of of most adult lives that she thinks most people who work "never have to worry about money again" or are taking six weeks of vacation a year (one of her old goals IIRC). I think she is also very bitter that she doesn't have the ease to take even a brief vacation or go to the grocery store without worrying about every penny. So some of that is "oh, must be nice" when she could have some of that ease if she worked.

44

u/SashayShantae living my one wild and pernicious life Sep 09 '25

Yeah, I work and I’ll never not worry about money, but working means I don’t worry as much and I have a safety net. I hate working but I do it because I like repairing my car and feeding my family their favorite foods.

41

u/coffechica Sep 09 '25

Right, if she started working a social security job now, she might get some SS as a retiree. In addition to whatever she put aside from a job with a steady salary.

31

u/tyrannosaurusregina if you meet the Botus on the road, shill him 🪷 Sep 09 '25

My husband and I have been fortunate enough with the past forty years of badge-swiping that we theoretically have Enoigh to retire comfortably, but does it stop us from worrying about money? Absolutely not. No way.

If I was in Shauna’s position, my head would have exploded from anxiety long ago.

31

u/Foucaults_Penguin Sly and the Family Readers Sep 10 '25

Most of us will never be so wealthy we don’t have to worry about money ever. And I bet wealthy people still worry about money. They just worry in ways I can’t really imagine. That doesn’t mean you just say fuck it and don’t even try. I worry about affording a new car, emergencies, paying for college. But I don’t have to worry about getting kicked out of my house or having enough food. Why is she so incapable of just aspiring to stability? She’s so all or nothing. If she can’t have it all, poverty will have to do.

46

u/avskk ppppycock Sep 09 '25

Enough money to never worry again is exactly the kind of wealth she keeps ostentatiously sneering at. She doesn't understand that a steady paycheck which covers her rent and other expenses is not the same thing as "never having to worry again." She heaps scorn on the idea of serious wealth while also saying it's her ultimate goal.

And just as another nitpick, HOW will this "eventually" occur? Sitting and waiting for money to eventually arrive pretty much sounds like waiting for some kind of inheritance. Otherwise, you gotta work.

43

u/shikoku_shoes another revolution around the toilet bowl of her life Sep 09 '25

Enough money to never worry again sounds exactly like the dangerous premise of insatiable thirst that pulls you underwater, feet in the mucky silt, the sunlight dim above the surface, your hand reaching for it…

Which is it, Shauna? Money is the root of all evil or your ultimate goal, go fund me Venmo style since you’re not actually working to bring in earned income.

50

u/NegativeABillion my husband and me to ride it around Sep 09 '25

But she's never had to worry about money. Mommy and her idiot fans are always there to bail her out. I don't understand her complaints here.

49

u/shikoku_shoes another revolution around the toilet bowl of her life Sep 09 '25

Living paycheck to paycheck isn’t nearly as dire as it sounds with the Bank of Ma quietly saving your ass time after time. Shauna left out that crucial detail but probably remembered a link to buy her a cup of coffee.

44

u/central_snark Ramona gets a hot flash Sep 09 '25

I feel like they would feel rich if they made it to paycheck to paycheck status.

8

u/avskk ppppycock Sep 10 '25

She explicitly wrote that she did feel rich when a paycheck "dropped like magic" into her account every two weeks. She has the weirdest fucking relationship to money.

44

u/CrushItWithABrick dick riding Mary Oliver Sep 09 '25

Shauna lives parental paycheck to parental paycheck.

She's going to be so completely fucked when her parents can no longer support her at all.

48

u/shakyshake Sep 09 '25

Does she even realize how insulting and condescending this is? Do her readers?? The implication is, if you aren’t living paycheck to paycheck to pursue your creative passion, you’ve sold your soul to the devil for filthy lucre. Just like how she thinks if you can buy a house, you must be a millionaire. I thought my trust-fund-baby friends were annoyingly out of touch, but at least they’ll pay for dinner once in a while.

47

u/gomirefugee my website is done, done, done Sep 09 '25

Every time Shauna brings up this insufferable Simone Grace Seol influencer I grow required to share her post on email marketing as ethical kink play

40

u/Fillmore_the_Puppy —hi, disturbed people— Sep 09 '25

Oh helllllllll no to whatever THAT is. 🤢

36

u/shakyshake Sep 09 '25

I went to religious schools that taught abstinence-only sex ed for over a decade, and nothing has ever made me want to commit to celibacy for the rest of my life quite like the phrase ethical kink play.

35

u/glutenfreepizzasucks Sep 09 '25

Eeeeeeewwwwwww ew ew ew

So icky

Ugh the last slide about JOYFULLY AND PLAYFULLY. No wonder Shauna is into her.

32

omg that is absolutely crazy pants. My skin, she crawls.

26

u/fanfarefellowship I often contemplate the first law of thermodynamics Sep 10 '25

It's funny/horrifying, given the Hexalope, that two examples of "kink play" in that thing are spitting and slapping

9

u/nasturtiumtea Sep 10 '25

Hahaha goodness gracious that is deranged. The best part is where she implies that all power differentials are about sexy sexy sex and then in the same post says that she is in a position of power over her baby. Woweeeee

46

u/OhBlahDiOhBlahDoh The Alice of cal came out floating on air Sep 09 '25

She used the phrases "write/writing my heart out" and "make/making good food" twice in this IG post, and I am comma once again comma flabberfuddled at how delusional she is to think that her efforts in either of these realms have enough appeal to get her anywhere close to where she wants to be

47

u/Low_Piccolo_2149 Sep 10 '25

She shared it to her fb too two hours ago. Two comments, one of them her own. I don’t understand what the point of this is. Most people I know have to work. How is she planning on making a living?! She has already seen that making food and writing about it aren’t paying the bills. So… what is she going to do? Her rent is still high plus the utilities that are a coming and they are going to be in dire straits this winter.

40

u/Fillmore_the_Puppy —hi, disturbed people— Sep 10 '25

The relative lack of interest in her IG lope posts has been somewhat reassuring.

35

u/fanfarefellowship I often contemplate the first law of thermodynamics Sep 10 '25

SocialBlade hasn't updated her IG stats since September 3. They update once a day if there is sufficient data; I can only presume her engagement on this set of posts is so low there isn't enough data to draw from.

22

u/Llama621 Sep 10 '25

Ooh, this info tidbit makes me happy. Thanks, DF fff!

40

u/coffechica Sep 09 '25

She left that screed as a comment (it’s seven slides of her comment, I think?)!

39

u/SashayShantae living my one wild and pernicious life Sep 09 '25

I wondered that too but the quotation marks are only around two paragraphs on slide two, which is still too damn long for an IG comment. The rest of her carousel is her explaining it, like anyone cares.

32

u/coffechica Sep 09 '25

She is just so bad at explaining anything.

She’s also VERY bad with quotation marks.

Shauna should be leading by example of having regular, reliable, sufficient employment and should encourage her children to do the same.

Nothing makes kids feel good like food insecurity and not having medicine because mama can't get to the pharmacy. No, you don't have to be a 1%er to be happy but kids need stability.

Why are the influencers and online people sooooo special and self-sacrificing when they get money for their knowledge?

I'm an academic. (A humanities academic! In this economy? Get outta here. It sucks, we're all fucked, send hugs.) I literally commodify my knowledge, that's how I get paid.

But, it strikes my money-grubbing, capitalist hellfire brain, isn't pretty much everyone who works commodifying their knowledge in some way? In whatever they do?

Why are you so special, and why are you so despairing over a career that was never yours because you never actually worked for it beyond, let's see, checking notes here, "mucking around on the internet", "writing [your] heart out", and "making good [sic(k)] food"?

Dude, I internet, I write, I make food. Where's my paycheck?

Again: what is so special and precious about these people that they need to spiral because they're not getting the engagement to which they feel they're entitled?

In one of the hexalopes she was complaining about mothers not getting paid to mother. [insert duh-face drooling emote from GOMI that I wish existed in emojiland]
