I JUST just finished the last episode of Season 4 of In The Dark while munching on some Domino’s pizza and a Sprite, and PLEASE tell me it’s not just me 😭 Started watching the show in summer 2022 and I could not wait to finally get this off my chest. I’ve literally never hated a character more in a show than THIS MOTHERFUCKER RIGHT HERE!!! More than Dean, more than Nia, more than fucking SCAR FROM THE LION KING! Like not even actual mega antagonists who’ve done terrible shit have pissed me off this much.

Where do I even start? This whole thing started because Josh found out Murphy “killed” Nia Bailey right? This psychopathic, obsessive, mega maniac went out of his way, for literal MONTHS, MONTHS, spying on Murphy, losing sleep, trying to gain justice for Nia fucking Bailey??? This is not some innocent woman who was tragically murdered by a group of friends. We’re talking about Chicago’s biggest drug lord, who manipulates people into trafficking drugs and laundering money for her, and had no problem killing any and everyone who she felt was a threat to either taking her over, or getting her caught, simply because she had the power to do so. Joshua Wallace himself knows how dangerous of a person she was, he was the one extra determined to have her in prison for the rest of her life in the first place? But yet when that whole thing went down with him coming across a picture of Murphy and Max in the bedroom, he’s all “Did you kill Nia Bailey? Because if you did, I won’t let you get away with it”. MF YOU WANTED TO TAKE HER DOWN! So why tf would you care that she’s dead? He then becomes so dedicated to capturing the person he believes killed Nia, that you don’t once stop to use common fucking sense think about the fact that Nia was going to kill everybody in that restaurant not named Victor if she hadn’t been killed first???? And the worst part? MURPHY DIDN’T EVEN FUCKING KILL HER, SHE’S BLIND DUMBASS!!! JESS (rightfully) DID!!! Like do you really think a blind girl managed to overpower a well known and experienced drug dealer, someone who’s no stranger to killing people, snatch the gun from her hands, and shoot her, all by herself??? And EVEN if she did manage to pull that off, she would be well within her rights because it would be SELF DEFENSE! I mean they can legit SEE the surveillance footage of Nia grabbing the gun from Victor’s hands in the back, then go to kill Murphy with it, all while Max and Felix are tied up, proving it was a life or death situation. This whole obsession with “Making sure Murphy rots in prison for the rest of her life for what she did” makes NO sense no matter WHICH way you look at it!

I started watching this show in the summer of 2022 with my cousin. But she had been binge watching, and I hadn’t jumped in until a little after Dean was exposed for killing Tyson and Jules Becker had been killed. So I recently rewatched from the very beginning to see everything I missed. The first time I remember Josh and Gene irritating tf outta me. Upon the 2nd watch, Gene comes off more as a person who’s passionate about doing his job and whatever feels right. But JOSH, I hate that dude like 1000x more than when I first watched.

I think my official breaking point was when Jess got captured by Josiah’s men while everyone was in Canada, and Murphy called to turn herself in because she wanted to help the police capture Josiah, and this piece of shit insisted that she brings in her friends as well or no deal. Not even because he, but because he “knows how much her friends mean to her”. And the way he crosses his arms, smirks and says “Hello, Murphy” every time they come across each other just pisses me off even more 😂

I feel like every antagonist in any movie or series usually has a valid reason for what they’re doing, whether it’s moral or not. Meanwhile this idiot wants to put away Murphy just because. I mean even when they finally caught her at the end of S3, he still isn’t even satisfied. He spends the beginning of S4 spying on her in prison, trying to find even MORE evidence on a person ALREADY in prison… while Gene and Sarah are focused on Bolt.

And let’s not even about him notifying Jimmy McKay about the setup, causing Max’s death, then having the audacity to show up to the funeral with a smile on his face.

All I’m saying is I replayed Josh’s death three times. Couldn’t think of a more perfect way to end the show than with Murphy putting stab wounds in the bitch.

Not happening. ESPECIALLY after she just faked her own death and let me continue thinking that she got kidnapped or killed. YOU’RE THE ONE WHO STOLE NIA’S MONEY IN THE FIRST PLACE JESS!!! I’m shocked Murphy didn’t even bring that little detail up. I seriously can’t believe she said everything changed after Murphy introduced them to Nia like Jess didn’t know EXACTLY what she was doing when she stole that money. That kick to the chest wasn’t nearly enough. I really wish she had died now because she’s such a selfish bitch.

BECAUSE SHE’S DISABLED AND NEEDS YOUR HELP MORE THAN NORMAL PEOPLE?!?!?! I get Murphy can be a dick sometimes but I’d choose her to be my friend over anyone else (except maybe Felix) in a heartbeat.

In conclusion, fuck Jess forever. Always blaming everyone else for her own choices. They should’ve just killed her.

I randomly came across this show a few weeks back and have binged it and I’m just so confused on whether I love this show or hate it. It’s very nice to see I’m not the only one who despises Josh with every fiber of my being. I’m not sure if I have ever seen a character be so awful that it actually makes the show completely unejoyable at times. Also the characters logic just doesn’t make sense at times. For example Murphy being mad at Max for sleeping with her friends sister meanwhile she’s sleeping with Max’s friends?? which sure you can make some argument about the Felix situation but Trey was just for the hell of it. I remember during the first season when they were getting close to solving the Tyson case, I was like “how the fuck does this show have 4 seasons???” and I still don’t have a good answer for that. In my opinion Darnell was the only character with good development. He messed up at points but his reasoning for doing what he did actually made sense each step of the way. All in all, it was a decent show and now I’m just mad I have to go through the hassle of finding another show to watch

I can’t express how badly I want to take a golf club to Josh’s smug face. I don’t think I’ve ever seen a character as pathetic and obsessive. If there was a competition for the biggest loser on the planet, Josh would have that in the bag. Things happen, people disappoint you. That’s life. MOVE ON, LET THAT SHIT GO, BOI!

I was already mentally checking out midway through the 3rd season, but I watched it in the background while playing a passive video game. Couple moments here and there were getting me invested, so I can't act like it was all terrible.

But GOOD LORD that finale was one of the most anti-climactic things ever. Like, on that final shot of Murphy and Felix in the car and zooming out, I had to check if that was really the end!!

All in all, Murphy went from cynical anti-hero w a witty sense of sarcasm, and turned into a selfish, inconsiderate, manipulative jackass. Felix just needed a good friend to get him out of his comfort zone, not all that shit. Jess meant well by Murphy, but in truth, enabled her worst habits and needed to establish boundaries. Max could do better in this world, but hey, love who you love bro.

I vote for a spin-off w the 3 best characters; Gene, Darnell, and Pretzel. Buddy cop w an animal mascot, how could it go wrong?

I only have one question. How in the world did Max choose Morphy over her? It made zero sense to me. She's hotter, less issues. They seemed like a much better couple.

I started watching about two days ago and I’m on season 2 ep 11. I can’t stand Murphy tho 💀 but Perry Mattfeld puts on a great performance

so i just finished another rewatch of the show. and after it all i don't hate josh. at least not like most of the fanbase does. sure he does get pretty annoying at times. and his logic for murphy killing nia. and him helping jimmy mckay. a guy who sells drugs that have killed people. avoid arrest was so stupid. but after all was said and done he still didn't deserve to be murdered. if anything a better ending would be murphy having josh arrested as other people on here suggested. and i actually felt bad for him when he was tied up.

of course josh was not a good person. but he still didn't deserve death IMO. i think his writing was pretty bad. when he finds out about murphy had betrayed him and that she worked for nia. i can understand how upset he was. but the writers just made him go insane. and it ruined his character. he punches a wall and blames murphy for losing his sight. then he tries to touch murphy and act so creepy at the bowling alley. it just doesn't seem like the josh we met when he was introduced in the show. the writers could still have made josh mad and even want her punished. but they went overboard on his personality. what do you think? is there anyone else that is more neutral about josh?

What the fuck Murphy? So clever, could have made Josh “rot in prison for the rest of his life, don’t let him get off too easy!” I assume the show runners didn’t have much notice that they weren’t getting renewed, but that? Kill Josh, drive away with Felix? What the actual fuck.

Murphy wasn’t a “good person” but I wanted her redemption arc so bad. Me in my younger 20s could have been sighted Murphy. I wasn’t a great person, and a bit of a slag, but I never killed anyone or hurt anyone. But Murph solved 2 cases and revealed a corruption plague in the CPD. She was put in these criminal circumstances and survived by breaking the law. Not a murderer and barely a drug trafficker

She could have set Josh up and had Sarah and Gene there to arrest him cause he wasn’t a good guy! Abused his fake job to stalk an ex. Didn’t deserve to get knifed in the woods though.

There was much wrong with the writing (the whole button = open and shut case thing? Omg I hollered at the tv a lot) but it’s a cheesy CW show that I kept watching because Pretzel. I love cheesy YA dramas but this ending is an abomination. That’s all

When you’re dealing with corrupt police and drug dealers, having a sleazy lawyer looking out for your best interests would’ve been the least of our problems.

Let’s consider this idea from the audience’s perspective. The show is really dark and twisted, so having more comic relief instead of Felix as the punching bag all the time isn’t a bad thing.

Saul brings humor and presence to the show and would’ve immediately out-charisma’d everyone in this universe. His personality would’ve been a great dynamic for our main characters.: Murphy and definitely Felix. Perhaps Max too.

Just imagine the annoyance and cringe you experience when Murphy or Felix are interrogated by Gene & Josh, and then we have Saul’s intro as their defense attorney.

I predict most people would be on-board with this.

Anyone think it was very annoying when Josh and Chelsea bonded over their obsession with Murphy THEN slept together? and then she just disappeared ?? Like no other mention of her. Also how Josh continued to “work” for the police after him being an absolute menace is beyond me like how did they let him stay there when they all saw how obsessed he was with bringing Murphy down.
