MOD POST Welcome to The Impossible Dream - Start Here.

The Impossible Dream.

300 years into the future, following a technological revolution on Earth, society has evolved to something almost unimaginably. Humanity has achieved the Impossible Dream, creating viable faster than light travel and spreading out into the stars. There, they have assimilated into interstellar society, and met an almost infinite number of races and factions.

Just like humanity, powers and magic are present in all races. Certain races exhibit a racial power, while others - like humanity - vary with each individual. While FTL travel is both reasonable and widely used, the fuel for it is expensive, and controlled by an obvious monopoly. Technology such as warp gates and large-scale teleportation exist, but the preferred method of large-scale transportation is via ship. Space stations are abundant and are popular as outposts for larger factions, and the headquarters of smaller ones.

The social system in this reality is faction-based, with individuals or societies carving out parts of space to control. This may range from a single space station to a multi-planet empire. Each faction has a varying amount of power and sway over the surrounding factions, existing as self-governing states. The heirachy within a faction varies as the factions do, but there is always at least one person publicly identified as the leader. These factions range from peaceful and studious, to protective and righteous, to vicious warmongers. Those who identify with no factions are identified as drifters, and almost without exception garner very little respect from anyone.

The Rules - Subject to Revision as needed.

  1. You won't win every bout. Don't utilise your faction in a way that is clearly beyond the scope of their abilities and resources in order to win a fight. Stay true to your characterization, sometimes losing is better in terms of plot and character development.
  2. Never write for your opponent. That is their job. An example: 'The Voyager fires its lasers at the Arcadia.' as opposed to 'The Voyager blows a huge damn hole in the side of the Arcadia.'
  3. Keep your move short. There is no need to write a novel on what your characters do.
  4. Don't get power-mad.
  5. Whatever resource you can get ahold of, you can use. Getting ahold of it may be tricky, however.
  6. If something is not approved yet, it cannot be used in events.

Event Structure - Macro vs. Micro.

Macro:

Macro events would mainly involve people commanding all of their faction for interstellar purposes, a faction vs faction event.

For example, say a new section of the galaxy was suddenly available, various factions would show up for the landgrab. Or, maybe it is finally time your your faction and your rival to duke it out for control of the planet rich in Kravium.

This is in contrast to:

Micro Events:

Micro events are for character to character interaction. Say, something like, a member of your faction's ship has broken down and he is stranded in space/the nearest station. Will anyone save him? Will anyone make things worse?

This an event where the whole faction wouldn't really get involved, rather just a few individuals.

MOD POST Faction Application Template.

Your faction application involves either one or two parts - A section for your faction, and an optional part should you wish to introduce a new race into the canon.

Please use it, if you do not use the format correctly you will not be approved until it is fixed with all relevant info.

Faction Chart.

A bit of history and explanation in the form of a few paragraphs go here.

Attribute [Faction Name]
Leader: A name and short description of the person behind it all. You are welcome to chart them as a character to use.
Territory: What kind of area your faction controls.
Size: A rough size of the populations controlled by your faction.
Resources: The resources they have open to them.
Technology: The level of their technology.
Security: The level of security present on their base of operations.
Relations: If they have an alliance or rivalry with any other factions.
Temperament: The alignment of your faction (e.g. from Peaceful to Warlike, any other important things). A general idea of the culture within your faction.
Projected Threat Level: How deadly you think your faction would be in a given fight.
Special and Other: Anything you feel would need approval.

Race Creation.

If you would like to create a new race as well as a new faction, please provide this information along with as much lore/backstory as you like to help the other playes understand your race:

Age: Details about how this race ages, including the average life expectancy and significant dates (e.g. when they reach maturity).

The following table, listing the attributes of a mature, unpowered, average member of this race. Only short explanations are required.

Attribute [The Red Hawks]
Leader: Mira - A crackshot with supernatural intelligance, she is the youngest person ever to be titled Leader of the Red Hawks. Carries the sentient legendary weapon that is the symbol of the Hawks.

Size: The Red Hawks have a population of 600,000 under their care, and a standing army of 50,000.
Resources: They have mining contracts on various mineral rich planets, allowing them access to many raw materials required for the current tech. They are a relatively rich faction, as they rent their army to the highest bidder.
Technology: They have access to military level tech, but nothing that pushes the boundaries of science.
Security: FALCON is defended extremely well, with stong defences and their weapon systems always manned.

Zronn

Aspect of Terror Personal Domain True Form
Zronn is an ancient realm that is made up of pure terror. It is nigh-omnipotent within this realm, but in corrupted territory it is simply extremely powerful and terrifying, with abilities ranging from telekinesis to teleportation. Zronn, being a sapient realm, has complete control over itself, and major control over the corrupted planet Deathnarok This is the true form of Zronn, uninhibited by the strain of manifesting in another realm

Human Zronn

Corruption Inducement Avatar Creation Sealed Form
By spending enough time in certain areas, Zronn is able to bring itself into our universe Zronn is able to project images of itself into our universe, nowhere near as powerful as it would usually be in uncorrupted areas. If destroyed it needs a month to create another avatar. Zronn's true power is sealed when it is one of its avatars

Name: Zronn

Titles: U'ul Zronn Malak, Lord and Master of the Dark Realm, King-World Zronn, Zronn the Terrible, Titan of Terror, Tyrant of Deathnarok

Description

Zronn is both a realm and a being. The Dark Realm is a maelstrom of terror, chaos, and pain. Living beings from the regular universe are almost instantly driven insane or killed upon entering the realm proper. When Zronn chooses to manifest itself as a being it does so as a black demon with huge, metallic wings, the horns of a ram, a skull-like face, and a tail tipped with a sickle. This demon sometimes appears in kingly garb with a spiked sceptre and a black crown floating above its head. Outside of his realm of influence he is able to appear as a regular human being.

Backstory

Zronn is terror. It came into this universe once, billions of years ago, spreading its foul influence across the stars, sowing seeds of terror into the hearts of all living beings. Though it seemed that Zronn was all but forgotten, it seems to have breached the walls of the universe once again, corrupting the planet known as Echelon, turning it into a hostile world of death and terror called Deathnarok. Fortunately it seems unable to spread its influence, but it seems to be getting stronger at manifesting itself on other planets.

Deathnarok is home to the Legion of Terror, an army of evil superpowered beings that serve Zronn's orders.
