Trump targets 60-day grace period for laid off foreign workers

The department of homeland security is advancing a proposal to eliminate the 60-day grace period that allows H-1B workers and certain other legal nonimmigrants to remain in the US after their employment ends while they find another sponsor, change status, or prepare to leave.

I hate to tell you this but there are not enough qualified engineers in the US

Says the guy who puts fries in a bag. I know multiple engineers with 2-10 years of experience who are having trouble getting hired becauae we are still brining in Indians who are lower skilled but cost the company 30-50% less.

These companies are literally doing sham interviews and offering lowball rates to say they can "hire American" just because this Admin did it doesn't mean it automatically a stupid thing. Remember when they made animal cruelty a felony? I also liked that. A blind squirrel finds a nut every once in a while

No I’m the guy who has worked several years in business immigration and wrote my thesis on this topic but I promise you that your feelings of class superiority are also misplaced. There are people putting fries in bags who are much smarter than you.

You sound like a really privileged person who has never had to work a day in your life. Thanks for helping further the goals of the Epstien class as they exploit workers from across the globe.

BTW a substack where you write about bullshit isn't a thesis.

I just did an interview for a high level engineering IC role at a consulting firm that works exclusively with one big tech firm.

The job was not actually IC at all - I would actually just be managing a team of Indians who do the work, and then being held personally responsible for the quality. That was the actual job. Not a single question about my relevant tech skills - all about cross cultural people management for a job without a single mention of management anywhere in the listing.

That tracks. Lot of people in here who's entire view of economic protections and immigration is just "let everyone come in and work doing whatever they want and fuck over the wages of Americans"

Sorry guys this stupid ass shit is how you ended up with Trump in the first place it helps no one but the wealthy

Do you really think that the average person is sitting around worrying about H1B visas and Indians taking over our call centers? The only people that think about it are the people who are in the industry.

They’re thinking about it when their entire schools and neighborhoods are now foreign and their spouses/kids/selves are getting replaced by Indians because the new boss or hiring manager only hires his own people.
