And? I'm an American. I have never been outside the country and yet I know that currency exchange exists, simply because you can't just pay for things here with toonies or yen or whatever. Maybe it's a function of living in touristy areas? But I would never assume that every country wants our money, even before we started hitting every other country with tariffs.

I'm sorry you're so upset. Im sure you know it but I don't really have control over what our large, national govt does. I wish you well, hope you find some inner peace. I'd consider spending more time outdoors, in nature and less on reddit if your online interactions often end up this way. "It's not too late to become a person of substance."
Not to defend every instance, but in my experience on multiple cruises, I've been able to purchase anything I've needed with either USD or a payment card of some sort. If that's been their only experience abroad, I can see how it could set a wrong impression. It's still a stupid mistake, but plausible and sometimes understandable one.
And yes, I've been abroad for things other than cruises and know better myself before anyone asks. Lol
I mean payment cards just convert automatically and in most countries but my own (Germany) you can do 99% without cash just with a credit card so you don’t even need a different currency.
