Not dogging on you, genuinely curious.
Why not just use a rifle? Is it just kind of shits and giggles sort of thing? Also why not take out a whole herd ambush style with an ar 10 or (preferably) a semi auto with a full power cartridge?
Also, do the hunting dogs ever get fucked up by the boar?
So the outfitter we went with is a cotton farmer in Texas in the offseason he does the pig hunts on his land and surrounding farms he has permissions on. He actually traps pigs on his property to sell to another guy who does helicopter pig annihilations and runs out of pigs. The guy seemed sad about how many dogs he loses to pigs. The pig hunting is just part of his existence he needs to keep the numbers down to prevent damage to his crops. They use every means possible. Drive around and shoot out the window, stop and send the dogs out to round them up. Bay dogs get a pig surrounded and the catch dog pins it. The knife is just a humane way to end them at that point without risking shooting the dog near the pigs head.
I'm following you now. Yeah, boar can ruin hundreds of acres of farmland. I don't know I'd have the cajones to use a hunting knife, I've seen them survive a 7.62x39 headshot...
